    PinSiders,

Heads up for those of you who can make it to the St. Louis area the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Chuck will be hosting a tournament at CP Pinball. I =think= the format is "pin golf", but I'm not positive.

The format is Pin Golf. I think Chuck will have the arcade open on Friday night 11/23 for out of town tournament players driving in early, but I will confirm that tomorrow.

Anyone have more info on the format of the tourney? Getting excited for this one!

    #12 11 years ago

Wife and I will be there.

    More info would be GREAT!

What is pin Golf style of play?
Also, will we be able to play all of the games or just tounament games?

    thanks!

    #13 11 years ago

Fellow PinSiders...please say hello at the tourney. I'd love to put a face with the name (or handle).

    Quoted from ARTMAN:

Anyone have more info on the format of the tourney?

I'm fairly sure that the format will be Pin Golf.

    Quoted from Whysnow:

What is pin Golf style of play?

    18 holes.
Each hole (game) is assigned a par (usually 3 but could vary) and the score that must be achieved for par. Each ball is a stroke. If you fail to achieve the target score in three strokes, you'll need to start a new game and are assessed a penalty stroke. i.e. if you achieve the target score with your 1st ball in the second game, including the penalty stroke, that's a 5. EB rules will be explained at the tourney. I don't recall them.

Once you make par, you can stop playing (to facilitate tourney schedule).

    Quoted from Whysnow:

Also, will we be able to play all of the games or just tournament games?

Prior to the tourney, and after the tourney for sure, all games will be available for play.

    Hope that helps.

The format is Pin Golf. Each machine or "hole" has a score to reach and the number of balls you take to get the score are counted as strokes.

    Example:
    HS2 - Score: 50,000,000 - PAR 3

You should be able to get 50,000,000 in 3 balls. If you get it in 2 and I get it in 5, you take a 3 stroke lead on me.

The rest on the rules are online somewhere.

AWESOME! Love the idea of golf style of play. Thanks for the explanations!

I will be sure to say Hi. I will likely be the long hair wearing a Phish (the band) shirt.

You're going to have to be more specific...

I'm really thinking about trying this out. I'm not a great player by any means, but I'm also not really competitive... I just might make this my first Tourney.

    Come on out Adam.
We have players of ALL skill levels.
The top players play tooth and nail for the title...the rest of us have fun talking trash and lamenting the oddball drains!

I probably will. If so, I'll be the guy with a fish (real fish) or Baskin Robbins T shirt on. I'll be watching my pinball 101 DVD in the meantime. My best games are AFM, MM, MB, TOTAN, Congo and Funhouse right now. I'd love to watch some good games. I've played a few nights with the league at The Silverballroom, and I have won a few games, so maybe there is some hope haha. I look forward to meeting some of you guys.

Anyone want to do a meet up at the Silver Ballroom Friday night? Only been there once for a couple of minutes but might be a fun warm up as CP isn't open Friday.

    #22 11 years ago

Is there confirmation that the silver ballroom will be open on Friday evening?

Heidi and I could meet up after we stop by Kurt's house.

I called and confirmed > they are open normal hours on Friday. We are down for a meet up, just let us know when you will be there. We will likely be available after diner to play and have a few drinks.

I was just informed that Silver Ballroom is a smoking establishment. That means I am out for Friday evening as I can't do the smoking bar thing anymore.

See yall on Sat morn at CP!

It's also incredibly loud at the Silverball Room. The owner says most of his customers like it that way. I prefer to hear the game and also spare what little hearing I have left.

If "loud" is your thing, the beer's cold and it's a nice place.

For those non-smokers, check out Orbit Pinball in Maplewood and 3rd Rail Bar and Grill in Pacific--just down Rt 66 about five minutes from the Six Flags I-44 exit.

How long do Tourneys usually last?

Are the other machines on for play?

I meant to ask Chuck but then I was smitten by beer/pinball & the prospect of my wife endorsing another pinball purchase

    #28 11 years ago

It usually ends between 4pm & 6pm depending on the number of 4 man scrambles.

AFAIK you can play other machines if you are waiting for tournament machines. However, you can not play any machines next to or around ANY tournament machines. Chuck is pretty strict about that rule. Also no jukebox during tournament time.

    #29 11 years ago

Damn, more evidence that CP is the real deal Holyfield. Legit tourney rules & the greatest A list games known to man. If only it rained bacon there & Chuck were a hot chick.

You all better practice because I am certain to have the highest score I just know it... Wait, in a golf style tourney that's a bad thing, dogh!

Anyway to those not in the know I will be the bearded 30 something 6ft2 chubby bald dude in glasses wearing a red plaid shirt & drinking way too much Redbull.

Awesome! Never heard of this place but I'm there. Plan to swing by around 7PMish. Seems like the locals love it and their FB page says open on Friday until 1AM. They even have a Skee Ball league. Never heard of that before!

I plan on going to silver ballroom friday.

I go to silver ballroom pretty often (usually a few times a week). Wednesdays are their League night, and most other nights, it's not loud, real crowded or smokey. I've met some real nice people there (Doc, the owner is really cool too). Weekends it can get noisy and a little crowded but he has a great assortment of games to play. I liked Orbit, but it's mostly Data East machines, and most of them are .50 per play and do not have the option of 3/$1.00 like ballroom does. I'll probably go to silver ballroom Friday as well. I'm 6'1", usually have khakis, red/blue shoes, and not done blonde hair, with a gut (love my beer). Last time I was at Orbit, they had the skiball league, and it was real crowded and hard to play the games, because the tables were so close.

    tsveng-

Thanks for stopping in tonight. Hope you had a great time and St. Louis and did well in the tournament. CP is one for the bucket list if you are into pinball!
