Your projects are so freakin' cool. I wanna be you when I grow up. Thanks for another great photo documentation.

Quoted from BJM-Maxx:

What software are you using for the color separations?

Adobe Illustrator is also a pretty fabulous program, if you can get the hang of it. Pretty much the industry standard for vector art. It's not easy to step right into, but so powerful once you understand how to manipulate anchor points and direction lines.

Good luck,

Just curious, what's an SDB?

Here's hoping that someone more knowledgeable than me shows up. *AHEMnickbaldridgeAHEM*

'scuse me.

Anyway, congrats on spotting that diode. Yeesh. I could feel the frustration in your post. What a relief to finally figure it out.

I don't know if anyone mentioned it before, but I think that spinner is from a Stern Dracula. Just a guess.

Couple days back:

Quoted from bingopodcast:

it's from Stern's Dracula. I don't need the spinner, but it's a pretty neat looking one.

Sounds like there's a consensus, anyway.

P.S. Just spotted this and thought of you.

Some inspiration...or frustration. I'm not sure which. Here's hoping for the former.

When will we see the "Gem Hunter" pinball machine? Maybe you could convince the missus to make some sweet toys for a title like that!

Quoted from Mk1Mod0:

EBD speaks! Naturally, I completely forgot just how annoying it can be.

Ha-ha! (Does Mouser offer refunds on parts?)

Quoted from Mk1Mod0:

After removal I saw that it was definitely toast.

I'm admittedly wet-behind-the-ears in the tech department. Just curious how you knew the regulator was toast. Is it normally not black? It's hard for me to see anything that looks roasted on that component.

Anyone have a good suggestion for a comparable replacement?

Good luck with the leads on this!

Wow. Great photo recap. ...and that vinyl cutter looks like it cuts quite accurately. (I've heard they can get a little questionable in areas of small details. Is that true? Looks pretty fabulous from here.)

A few questions:

1) Never heard of "Silhouette" before, but I'm guessing it's the software associated with the vinyl cutter?
2) Is this what you're working with for a vinyl cutter:

http://www.amazon.com/Silhouette-Electronic-Cutting-Machine-Vinyl/dp/B00OS7EF3Y/ref=sr_1_1

3) Any chance of a brief review of your vinyl cutter? Are you happy with it? Would you recommend it?

Looking forward to the vinyl mask results on your "$50 backglass"!

#170 8 years ago

Heya Mk1Mod0,

I bring up this issue in the most respectful way possible (you know I'm an admirer of your work). However, I think these light masks could be improved. I mean...

gameNotOver.jpggameNotOver.jpg

...without the comparison on this thread, I'm not sure I'd know what I was looking at. "High Score To Date" isn't much better:

highWhat.jpghighWhat.jpg

I'm guessing that you're sandwiching this printed translite between 2 pieces of plexi and adhering the light masks to the back piece of plexi. If that's the case, my hunch is that those two pieces of plexi are bowing a bit, separating in the middle, and blurring the back-lit lettering because of the distance between the mask and the printed translite. As we know, originally, the mask stencil was printed directly on the back of the backglass print (not on a separate sheet of plexi).

So, call me crazy, but would you be willing to adhere those light masks directly to the back of your translite print-out (instead of to the back sheet of plexi)? Then there would be no gap between translite and mask, which would eliminate that blurred effect and make the words far more legible.

Regardless of what you decide to do with this, I wish you the best of luck with this ambitious project!!

Sincerely,
Ryan

Masks: Looking tons better! ...still glad to hear you'll be re-adhering them.

LED's: SOOO difficult to adequately photograph. The picture makes C look like a nice green and D looks kind of blown-out, but I believe you that D looks better in reality (provided the LED doesn't have that unsightly strobe to it). Poor neglected incandescents.

Switches: I look forward to understanding what's wrong with these shiny new switches.

Long overdue: Driveway looks great! Nice place.

Acrylic purchase: I'm giddy over here!

Garage: Is that an acrylic pinball machine I see peering out from the darkness...teasing the neighbors?

Finally...I almost hate to bring it up, but...

Quoted from Mk1Mod0:

The clear bingo will resume. I had no intention of letting it go this long but stuff happens. Nothing bad, just lots of it.

Ha! I completely understand.

Quoted from Mk1Mod0:

With a little luck and less lifestuff I'll have the clear bingo at TPF 2017 next March.

Honestly, there was zero pressure intended in my question. TPF2017 sounds ambitious...but heck, so was "Clearly Insane 1.0". So...BEST OF LUCK!!! (Having schlepped and played a bunch of bingos recently, I'd LOVE to see their innards in action.)

Quoted from Mk1Mod0:

I'm hoping to avoid a few steps by cheating like this.

NEAT! Thanks for the explanation.

Quoted from Mk1Mod0:

(This means I won't have to solder the joints even though I will anyways because I am like that. Whether or not I want to be.)

Ha-ha! Preach.

Quoted from Mk1Mod0:

The overlay is a print from a scan of an overlay I bought some years ago so while I am certain it lost a little in translation I am pretty impressed with the quality.

Not too shabby for the number of times removed from its original source. Thanks a bunch for the nice shots!

Speaking of TPF 2017... Will he or won't he?

If "he" is "me", unfortunately the answer is no. TPF lands on my wife's birthday weekend in 2017, so I'm out.

If "he" is "you", well...I eagerly away whatever ambitious project of yours has a TPF deadline.
