Quoted from Wickerman2:

"They will have to prove they had adequate accommodation to be quarantined during their stay in the country."
This is a whole new airbnb category...
So, Israel is effectively turning off tourism. Not sure how big that industry is there but nobody is booking a vacation or even a business trip to Israel now.

It's a pretty big deal. Imagine booking a trip to go see the Holy Land, only to get there and be quarantined.

So is the "Just wash your hands and don't touch your face" advice the equivalent of "duck and cover" to survive a nuclear bomb?

Like, yeah, of course wash your hands. But that doesn't really seem like enough.

Went to a walk-in clinic because I've had a cough for 8 days, with some coughing fits lasting hours and keeping me awake all night and I've missed work. The walk in clinic referred me to urgent care. They xrayed me. Then they had security guards clear hallways and escort me into isolation at the ER where I sat alone for an hour until someone let me know they don't think I have coronavirus. So that's been my day. Still at the ER. Seems excessive. I was just hoping for something to treat that cough.

Quoted from sturner:

That sucks, hope it turns out alright. Are you the same roffels from SA?
Can't they just administer a test and wait for the results? I was reading that South Korea can take a test and give you the results in 6 hours. Might be a pain to wait around in a room that long (or maybe they'd send you home, tell you to isolate, and wait for a call). But that seems to me like a simpler solution.

I was just at the grocery store and had one of those dumb moments where I choke a bit on my own saliva for 10 seconds. Swear everyone inside looked at me with terror. Just an eery time.

The very same roffels. They don't have enough tests to administer but the doctor came in and reiterated I'm very low risk.

Quoted from Who-Dey:

They declared a state of emergency today and that made you optimistic? Lmao

Seeing businesses and governments taking this seriously finally makes me a little more optimistic about our handling of things.

Quoted from arcademojo:

It will take longer then that with all the people that are in denial.
Schools are closed but all the kids are out having meetups at the malls, bowling alley and other places. We just just had 3 people confirmed positive in the next county over and seems like most the people don't care.

I'm out sick at the moment and dreading going back to work. I do more administrative work, but pitch in with store work in small doses. I think I'm going to walk into a nightmare and doing a lot more stocking/customer service to keep things moving.

Quoted from Honch:

I agree. They should be treated as frontline workers and get more pay. They should also be issued protective gear as well.
Grocery workers, bank tellers, pharmacy workers and gas station attendants all should be included because of their close contact with the public and because we need them to stay open.

Yup. Absolutely support hazard pay for our grocery workers right now. It's such an undervalued and underpaid gig, meanwhile every other business is going to shut down or allow remote work, but our cashiers, stockers, clerks will all be interacting with the public and putting themselves at risks. They're essential employees right now, and it's going to be easy for them to burn out.

Quoted from FYMF:

Just wait. They are saying 20-30% of people end up with permanent lung damage. Life-long.
Who is going to pay for all that disability?

... Yeah. I keep picturing the first responders to Chernobyl and how ill-equipped they were to deal with the danger. I understand radiation is much more severe, but this shit can be life-altering.
