Italy Sets Mandatory Quarantine For 16 Million People In Region Including Milan, Venice

Weddings and funerals would also be banned; movie theaters, gyms and bars would be shut down until April 3.

10x the amount of a regular flu season is a tall order for our hospitals to fill.

The Bulgarian Health Ministry has issued an advisory that high blood alcohol levels are detrimental to the COVID 19. Source may be questionable, but do you really want to risk your health that they might be wrong?

I think you might have bigger problems if you have enough “hard alcohol “ coursing through your veins to kill a virus. Probably die of liver failure first.

first case showed up in St. louis today.

And Kansas City. It’s pretty much everywhere now. It’s been here for the better part of a week. We just have not had the tests to confirm the cases and hospitals have been reluctant to share suspicions without hard confirmation. US Hospitals barely have enough beds for normal flu season (which is still ongoing BTW) Our best hope to limit mortality is to not spread it around. Wash hands, avoid restaurants, hospitals, travel, and yes conventions.

Have we reached Hysteria yet?

Easy now. People dont take kindly to rational thinkin round here. You best take your fancy book learnin and common sense someplace else.

I prep for hurricanes here and a bit beyond.
History of illness & disease repeat themselves.
I'd rather be causious & at peace of mind than with the clueless masses scurrying.

I came across a good article on COVID-19 and how to safeguard against this virus....................

Yeah, because telling everyone that theres nothing to see here is the "smart" way to handle a pandemic.
If it's such a nothing burger, why even bother posting on this thread?

It’s a serious virus that the vast majority of U.S. citizens will not contract. Many people revel in making it something more.

Carry on, chief.

I will. And I will continue to treat this as a serious issue until its resolved. Denial is great until reality comes knocking on your door. We're all going to be impacted by this virus on some level. Whether it impacts your wealth, your family's health or closed businesses with empty shelves, it will hit everyone.
I want you to be right and that its nothing, but there isn't any signs that it's just going to blow over anytime soon.

Quoted from Mike_J:

Low end estimates are 40%.

This sounds nice, right?
“ The new coronavirus causes little more than a cough if it stays in the nose and throat, which it does for the majority of people unlucky enough to be infected. Danger starts when it reaches the lungs.
One in seven patients develops difficulty breathing and other severe complications, while 6% become critical. These patients typically suffer failure of the respiratory and other vital systems, and sometimes develop septic shock, according to a report by last month’s joint World Health Organization-China mission.

The progression from mild or moderate to severe can occur “very, very quickly,” said Bruce Aylward, a WHO assistant director-general who co-led a mission in China that reviewed data from 56,000 cases.“

Being clever and flippant is great. I hope you’re not in the 40% and if you are I hope it doesn’t get in your lungs.

I have and will continue to treat it seriously, just not maniacally.

And despite all of the back and forth here, I hope you and your families remain 100% healthy.

Charmin is the best toilet paper hands down.

Get a bidet. $40 on Amazon. Easy to install.

There are two kinds of people in this world... those who own a bidet and those who walk around with dirty asses. Toilet paper can never fully do the job and you know it.

So Italy is talking about throwing people in jail for violating the quarantine and Iran is letting people out of jail to help slow the spread.

The links are out there.

How many kids and how many parents in that school? What about the teachers and their families ?

That school staying closed for 2 more days at least for cleaning.

Another separate HS has 2 students in self quarantine because they were exposed to a positive person. No sign of infection though

How are the local stores in your area? Is panic buying in full swing yet?

I don’t go to the big box stores so not sure. Amazon local delivery has limited items and quantities available if that’s any sign! I get all my big stuff automatically delivered from them.

Oregon is on the list of states declaring an emergency.

OPEC cannot agree on prices and production. Saudi Arabia has slashed oil prices.

Now over 500 case of virus in the US.

Weekend DOW futures down 900 points.

My wife goes to BJ’s once every 4-6 weeks for general supplies. Today was the day, and she came home with everything she usually gets, plus a few special items, like non-latex disposable gloves, canned veggies and fruit, dried fruit, nuts and powdered milk.

She also got extra coffee, beer and some powdered creamer. If the apocalypse is truly upon us, we mustn’t run short of essentials.

Shelves were full and no fights over TP or anything else. All this 20 miles from Manhattan.

That's good to hear. I have to head up your way (Manhattan) in a few weeks, but I realize this a very fluid situation and can change quickly.

I’ve been reading some sobering articles in the Atlantic today. The US was really cavalier in their preparation for this. We are flat out not ready to absorb the full impact of a mass infection. It’s really kind of shameful. I hope it doesn’t come to pass.

Weeks late and still sending mixed nonsense messages. Small example, go ahead and dock 3,500 people...we’re not sure yet where you will be quarantined though

#233 4 years ago

City/State quarantines need to happen now but nobody wants to go first and take the economic hit

#234 4 years ago

It’s not even a matter of “we’re all gonna die”, it’s a matter of our standard of living taking a massive hit, and the fact that with even a modicum of preparation, A PLAN, some mitigation would have been possible. But we’re past that. Hope for the best. And if you see Who-Dey, better be packin’. just kidding brother. Good luck!

The jet set crowd in Aspen may have it:
CDPHE said it was aware of a confirmed COVID-19 case in Australia with ties to the Aspen community. One woman in her 20s who was visiting Aspen returned home to Australia earlier this week, where she tested positive. The woman had contact with Aspen residents and visitors at social gatherings, CDPHE said.

Sorry if this has been brought up... but...

Any thoughts on how the corona virus will impact Pinball and Arcade Expos? Many people tightly packed into game areas, all touching the same flipper buttons and arcade controls.

If 40-70% of people get the virus, any group event would be examined carefully.

My girlfriend, age 69, who has some respiratory problems has informed me that if I go play pinball at the end of the month that will not be allowed in her house until 14 days after I get back.

I stay with my sister-in-law and my niece when I go. My niece has health issues, including breathing issues and she uses oxygen 24/7. I’ll need to make other lodging arrangements if I go.

I have my pinball machine tuned up and ready to go but I am having to do some soul searching on this.

It will be a rough morning in the markets.

Suggest you check out CNBC.com for some explanations of what is happening. There you will learn about circuit breakers that are being triggered on big down days.

This is uncharted waters.

Last week The Fed cut interest rates 1/2 point in a panic move. Now it’s hands are tied. The market cannot look to The Fed for help.

I mean, it sucks for sure. Can't imagine how much $ I've lost the last few weeks! Giddyup Ice, save us!

The futures markets have had circuit breakers for a long time before breakers were placed on stocks. It is called Limit Up or Limit Down. So it works both ways.

Stock market only has limit down days. It is a one way street.
