Back when we got an 800 dollar check I bought a new stove. Believe it or not still have it, got a few burners out.
I would love to have another but any direct checks should go instead to lengthen unemployment benefits.
Not everybody would buy a stove with it.

Quoted from OLDPINGUY:

Nothing to do with Insurance in getting disability.
A decision at the top that you repeat....Why help Losers, Druggies, and Poor.
Last I knew, "they" and I are the same as you, "Americans".

Naw, they are freeloaders

Quoted from swampfire:

I would hate to see this turn into a political thread. Best to spew that stuff somewhere else, whether it’s attacking or defending what’s happened before. All we have is the road before us, and we all gotta walk it together.

I would shut the thread down. It's been a political dumpster fire for a while. I'm guilty as well.

He said the democrat criticism was was hoax, meaning he wasn’t taking it seriously.

Of course he took it seriously...he put the travel ban on China on January 31...and he was called a racist for it.

But whatever. All I ask is for honesty.

Yeah it’s not a discussion about a virus. It’s a discussion about people with a political virus

I’m gonna play some pinball

Quoted from Who-Dey:

I know several people under the last administration that couldnt get disability either and they truly deserved it. Its not and never has been an easy thing to get........well at least for the people who really need it. Seems like some people get it way too easy. Its a flawed system and this didnt just happen in the last three years and you know it.

I can only speak for myself. Under the previous administration, it was hard but not impossible.
It is now impossible.

So put yourself in my shoes. My medication and treatments, plus insurance runs $62,000 a year.
A need to earn $100,000 just to pay my medical.
I cant work, period, more than a few hours, if I can stand. No one will hire full time, with a good plan.

So, I can go on Medicaid....That makes me a loser and a taker. cut the program.
Many of my meds ARE not covered by medicaid, so please die, even though I paid in to the system, like you, like taxes.

I can Use the ACA, but thats a Horrible Ugly thing, that the President wants gone, with no plan to share.

I could set up trusts, and use the ER and abuse the system. That loop hole is gone, and treatment is no longer offered.

So tell me. You are Me. How do you stay Alive?

Yes, my wife works, with several surgeries, part time for our local Government for $10 an hour, no benefits, if she works full time with benefits, the plan wont cover my meds, and wont earn enough
to cover food.
Tell her to get a higher paying Job? at 60, partially disabled....Who is giving away $100-$200,00 jobs?

What would you do?

For you, your life, I respect it is different. For me, it is Life and death.

Quoted from OLDPINGUY:

Not all, and gross generalities are poor.
I am disabled. I needed Disability. I have Paid Tons of taxes, being in business.
I had the paperwork moving with an Attorney, if you can believe I need an attorney for aid,
and it was shutdown in the current administration.
Attorney advised me good luck, it isnt going to happen.
Why was this service I PAID into denied? Not my condition at all.

I’m very sorry to hear your disabled and we are all still human beings at the end of the day.

Well, you can’t fear what you can’t spell.

#2266 4 years ago

It makes me wonder - do you shutdown hotspots or just shut the whole country down?

#2267 4 years ago

Newsome thinks we will reach 56%, those trapped on a cruise ship reach 19%. Lock down the state!!! This can't even be enforced. There aren't enough cops.

#2268 4 years ago

I did get a kick out of telling my wife that my pinball collection is holding value better than our brokerage account this month. I am still optimistic about this whole thing.

Quoted from Djshakes:

Wait, are the libs now denying the Wu flu started in China bc it's offensive?

No, we just don’t give a shit.

It’s a stupid, stupid distraction tactic that’s being embraced by stupid, stupid people.

We are much more interested in saving the country from near total destruction that in no small part could have been prevented if not for the people they think they can “fix” this by trying to “own the libs” by calling it the “Chinese virus.”

So, that’s where I’m coming from. Where are you coming from? This is a joke? You are enjoying this?

“Chinese virus! That’s so gonna trigger my aunt Cathy! lolololol!!!”

Yeah that’s great. Hopefully Aunt Cathy -
and the rest of us - make it through this without ending up homeless or dead.

So, I've been at home almost the entire week smoking and drinking my brains out waiting for the first symptoms to arrive.... and nothing.

Yeah, it’s a good point. Like, thanks guys! You’ve done enough.

Thanks for the greatest crisis this country has seen in my 45 years on the planet.

9/11 PALES in comparison to this, and I lived through that, too, right here in nyc. I’ll give you this much, it’s certainly the most tremendous, amazing, fantastic crisis ever. The best. And only the best people could create the environment that made it happen.

Yes, but no aches or pains or fever besides the usual walking around in a daze late at night and first thing in the morning and sizing up where the new bruises and cuts on my head came from, tells me I'm normal.

Here's another wake up call...

https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/companies/celebrities-get-virus-tests-raising-concerns-of-inequality/ar-BB11oeJd?ocid=msn360

It will always be about $$$$. You think the tests are just gonna come direct to you and your shit-kickin' town? Not surprised there's a shortage. Politicians (both of your parties), athletes, movie stars, influencers, social elite... all before you and your right to live.

List of members of Congress that dumped stocks after a Coronavirus meeting is growing....it’d be awesome to have that kind of “insider” info. Is that legal?

#2279 4 years ago

In all this craziness I didn’t really read up on what I’m supposed to do if I have symptoms.

Apparently, just ride it out and don’t leave the apartment unless I have trouble breathing.

That’s cool, I think I can handle that.

...Barr was one of the three senators who voted against a since-passed bill, the STOCK Act, which prohibits members of Congress from using their positions to profit from nonpublic information.

Doubt anyone is prosecuting, or impeaching.....

Who do people think left the market first?

You got a 8 week supply of weed? Just ordered 6 months worth.

#2286 4 years ago

The virus has been here the last 3 months. The infection rate is not going up exponentially, only the numbers of those being tested. Yes the virus is spreading, but not at the rate of the positive tests.

Quoted from embryonjohn:

Pretty much everything you eat in the next year will be made by you or an immediate family member. God bless the people who know how to cook and do it well by improvising and substituting.

The basics of cooking/ baking are very easy. Unfortunately it takes time. I was at Costco today and they were out of ground beef, I have a kitchen aid grinder attachment. Picked up some chuck and will grind it. I have a very easy pizza dough recipe, if you are interested let me know. Everything that is pre-made is very easy to do, it just takes more time.

I think he's saying that there are a lot of positive tests, but that is because most tests are being done on sick people.

More curious is what country he is in that has had it for three months.

If or when the US gets to the same level of infection as Italy now (679 per million), we will be at 224,000. Wonder how long it will take us to get there.

Two weeks!? (as Andrew Heighway would say... )

Jokes aside, yes, probably two weeks - but depends on state / county... and on the number of tests run.

I have no doubts that your situation is bad and it's not right that you cant get disability either if you are truly disabled. I have issues myself that I dont want to go into and I honestly think that I would be a good candidate for disability but like you they would probably turn me down so I just keep going to work and grinding it out.

I dont have any answers for your problems and I feel bad for you that you are in the position that you are in, I sincerely mean that. How do you actually make enough money for your medicine and other Bill's? You live in a nice home on a nice area looks like and you also have some pinball machines. I do envy you for that!

I had a friend who was like 26 years old and had stage 4 rheumatoid arthritis and he was in so much pain that he couldn't stand it and he definitely couldn't work and he really did want to work. He tried and tried to get disability and they kept turning him down. Unfortunately he couldn't take the pain anymore and he had no money because he couldn't get his disability that he so much deserved and decided to leave this world. That was under the previous administration by the way.

It was really sad and I think he kinda looked up to me and he always wanted my advice on things but when he would tell me how much pain he was in I felt terrible because I had no answers for him other than to hang in there and maybe there will be some new meds that could help him or something. It literally broke my heart when his gf texted me and told me that he had passed.

Quoted from titanpenguin:

Yes, there are more people infected than positive tests. And it's difficult to compare countries as the number of tests vary a lot. Perhaps having a look at number of deaths give a more accurate picture.

This underestimation may look as a good thing (fatality rate / extremely severe cases % should be lower then) but it's also bad, as the chances to be in contact with an infected person are higher than you think...
And people are very contagious - virus titer is 1000x higher than the flu (you release far more virus particles when you sneeze or cough). This is why social distancing is important.
