Looking through the old locked flu shot thread, I apologize for saying we were overdue for a pandemic. I did mention what turned out to be this virus 72 days ago (Jan 7th).

This post will not age well.

Your estimate? Based on what? I'm far from panicked, but one thing I have, is great concerns for vulnerable people in my family. Sorry (not sorry) if that makes me sound lame or panicky. You see, Wolfmaan, With age comes maturity. And with maturity comes the understanding that not everything in this world is about you.
There is such a thing as the greater good, that believe it or not is more important than your good times. Maybe I'll revive this thread in 15 years so you can see how much of an immature child you sound like. As far as your timeline goes, I wish you were right, but you're not.

#2204 4 years ago

I've seen more predictions fall flat in the last week than ever before. The only way this gets wrapped up in the next 2 months is if a vaccine is miraculously brewed up somewhere and they can mass produce enough. We'll see how your end of April prediction fits in.

#2205 4 years ago

Estimates, hunches and predictions are no match for math.

Sure don't see this going down. Hope it does of course. They can't even seem to mass produce PPE these days. If they are not trying to set up mass production of ventilators as we speak, they are screwing up bigtime.

Quoted from OLDPINGUY:

Hospital staffs were briefed today, to expect an announcement from the President.
With a Flat Dow Today, I am guessing tomorrow late afternoon before closing hours.
Of Course, he could delay.
I have heard this from Doctors and Nurses in my Family in 3 different states.
Major National Guard move is next....they are ready. (Family and Neighbor- 2 Generals)

I am trying to stay out of this dumpster fire of a thread but I need to chime in here. I am married to somebody in hospital administration and she has not heard of this. There are a bunch of debunked rumors related to this, as you can read in this USA Today article. Could we go into a quarantine if things go bad? Sure. But nothing indicated that this is tomorrow or anytime soon.

I cant explain the Process of information to explain the differences in information.

I can share that my Son at Vanderbilt in Nashville as a Doctor, and Sister in Law and Niece, in Cardio
at Orlando Health, both have shared they had meetings on this today.

Could things change? Sure. This would make them wrong. But right now, this is info for me, I was hoping to share.

A refund is if you overpaid. It is coded in Tax law, and a Tax refund is not the same
as an Instant cash Handout for doing Nothing.
More Like Free Cell Phones, or Food Stamps, etc....Free Stuff.

They are still trying to figure out the quickest and safest way to get money in the hands of the people. That Steven Nuchin gets it. He wants money in people's hand today. In the hands of the working people with no savings. In. the hands of people who will get out and spend it. No rich guys allowed because they will just bank the money.

I'm like everybody else. I could use a extra $2000.00, but I do not need it. So, if I get sent some govt. money. I will have to figure out how to give it back. Or find a charity to give it to.

Just checking.

What do you want to do Art let the economy collapse? I bet that would make you happy wouldnt it?

Except, last time I checked... "The Dude" was born at the height of the baby boom.

No, Just rhetoric. At some point, this money will come and go, and the politics of a Trillion dollars here and a Trillion dollars there will come into question. Was it done right? Did people steal Money because this was done fast? I dont know..
What I do know is the current philosophy of our leader is to solve everything with Money.
Sometimes I question this logic....Im not against it....Id like that check like everyone else,
but we both know how this will be politicized in the future, just as Health care was recently deemed..."
"Who is going to pay for all those socialist bills....get a Job"

Of course, this isnt on Pinside, but you know the rhetoric regarding "Liberal handouts"
Im hoping those that have this in their views, might see what is happening now as no different.
As well as the common rhetoric, "Liberals want the economy to collapse to be happy".
Im left Center, which is no mans land today.

You are playing armchair QB an awful lot and of course you wont give any credit to the people in charge. This is a situation that has never happened before or at least in the last 100 years so there are no easy answers here. Why not give the guy a break and be a good American and get behind him instead of hoping he fails? That would kill you to do that wouldn’t it?

Actually there’s a big difference. Liberal handouts refer to rewarding the losers and drug addictics in society with a reward. Much different than rewarding innocent people who were hard working on this weeks case. Those people actually are taxpayers and have money. That’s far from a liberal handout

Where does one find the denial? it started in China, again back to one tweet out of context by low level Zhao, with the word "Maybe". That isnt the official Chinese position.
Blown out of proportion by Media.

County of LA is now telling all non-essential personal to stay home.

One person asked "if we see somebody who isn't, do we call the police or the health department?" lol.

#2227 4 years ago

I downplayed this in a different thread. Panic was not needed. That said. This has changed, and will change us for a long time. You remember those old people saving used bags and aluminum foil because they went through the Great Depression...this will define us. We will forever change our behavior. Not sure how, but we will change. The economy is and will tank. We will have to fight our way back over years. If the health system is over run...we are screwed. DON’T GO TO THE CLINIC OR ER UNLESS YOU ARE SERIOUSLY ILL (this behavior is what will help overrun the health system). If you haven’t been exposed to the Coronavirus...you will be there. If you don’t feel good...STAY HOME, FOR THE SAKE OF OTHERS. Many will die. Suffocate. I am afraid to watch this. Isolate yourself and family. That does not mean you can’t go for a walk, hike, run, or be outside, but don’t be close to other people. This is not a scare tactic, just reality as of now. In a few months, this will pass, but make no mistake, this is serious. I was fitted for my N95 today. I’m not wearing my gown in this pic, but this how I see ALL in the clinic with any respiratory illness (what used to be just a cold). In my wildest nightmares I didn’t think I would be in this position. Enjoy your family and your pins/games. Stay home if you can.

I dont give alot of credit to those in charge today, that is true.

But this happened:
The Trump administration fired the U.S. pandemic response team in 2018 to cut costs.

Ill let you accept the firing was for money, but lets consider it was a program of the past administration for a reason.

This alone cost us 8 weeks.

Orange man bad! If Obama would have done the same they would be throwing their panties at him. Neo conservative is different than neo-lib bc they have an r behind their name, right? They are all the same. One thing the youth have correct is that these party before country types will hopefully die off with the boomers. They fully bought into the two party divide and conquer system.

Intersting I saw a thread about real progressives praising Trump and talking about realignment because the establishment dems have to attack anything Trump does and he is implemtimg some progressive policies and they simply can't can't give him credit bc it hurts their soul. I'll try to find link to Twitter screen shots and post. The fact that Biden is the nominee pushed them over the edge.

Not all, and gross generalities are poor.

I am disabled. I needed Disability. I have Paid Tons of taxes, being in business.
I had the paperwork moving with an Attorney, if you can believe I need an attorney for aid,
and it was shutdown in the current administration.
Attorney advised me good luck, it isnt going to happen.

Why was this service I PAID into denied? Not my condition at all.

Sounds like your gripe is with your insurance company which the last time I checked was not run by this administration. If you think private healthcare is bad now, you’ll be begging for it if the kooks try and force it to be government run.

If the government can’t run healthcare correctly for USA’s VIPs aka the VA, then you’ll be getting squalor if you think everyone else included is going to get better.

Call that dude wearing khakis in the commercial - I think he takes calls in the middle of the night. And quit expecting the president to do everything for you, you remember what Kennedy said right?

I would hate to see this turn into a political thread. Best to spew that stuff somewhere else, whether it’s attacking or defending what’s happened before. All we have is the road before us, and we all gotta walk it together.

I know several people under the last administration that couldnt get disability either and they truly deserved it. Its not and never has been an easy thing to get........well at least for the people who really need it. Seems like some people get it way too easy. Its a flawed system and this didnt just happen in the last three years and you know it.

Online registration for unemployment benefits is down for maintenance.

They are improving it to better serve those affected by the coronavirus and will re-open tomorrow.

My guess is they are removing the question and requirement "did you look for work?"
