It’s great to see these states doing this.

Without strong guidance coming from the top states are taking positive action that could help get us out of this sooner.

Bars too isnt it?

Yes

I wonder what will happen in the aftermath.

Will the way people worship experience a sea change? Will more people start going to church in tears of sorrow, or will they echew the churches and just stay home?

What about the Middle East countries? Since burial traditions and other traditions have gone by the wayside, will those people be compelled to just stay home in the future?

Will people lose their appetite for cruise ships, realizing that they are floating Petri dishes with no easy escape.

Same for aircraft. Will people start thinking that being enclosed in an aluminum tube is about like being on a cruise ship only in a much smaller space?; With the added bonus that you can always fall out of the sky.

Will people start eating at home more and fast food takes a big hit?

No one has a crystal ball for this.

Watch, once his state declares a state of emergency they will take them.

Cheers Mayor DeBlasio!

Beat to the punch by Ohio, but better late than never!

Meanwhile the CDC recommends against gatherings of 50+. Seems a little high, no?

Isnt Italy on total lockdown also? If so how come their numbers keep climbing and getting worse?

Where medical science and politics collide.

https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/15/politics/trump-administration-coronavirus-social-distancing/index.html

"Speaking on Sunday morning talk shows, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said much more would be required of Americans if the disease is to be stopped or slowed. Asked by CNN's Brianna Keilar on "State of the Union" if he'd like a "national lockdown" where people are told they need to stay home and out of restaurants and bars, Fauci said he'd "like to see a dramatic diminution of the personal interaction that we see" in those places.

"Whatever it takes to do that, that's what I'd like to see," Fauci said.
---------------------------------------------------

"According to an administration official, both Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and economic adviser Larry Kudlow are adamantly against greater travel restrictions, including a nationwide ban, arguing that any further restrictions on the airlines could be catastrophic.

" Mnuchin and Kudlow "don't want a national edict saying don't fly," this person said, noting that both men had a "heated disagreement" with medical advisers in the Oval Office earlier this week when restrictions on European travel were being discussed."
======================================

Some tough decisions are going to have to be made. I don't envy anyone working in high level of government. Every decision will be a cross-your-fingers experiment. There will be much 2nd guessing. No way to win until the virus has blown itself out---which no one has any idea when that will happen.

Italy has one of the oldest median ages in Europe. The average age of those dying there is 81.

I would think Dominos pizza should hire extra staff. Everyday could be like the super bowl

Quoted from CrazyLevi:

Sort of like when Ford, GM, and Chrysler were in congress in 2008-09 begging for money. GM wanted 25 billion and was asked, "Why 25 billion, Why not 24 billion? Why not 26 billion?

Whose ass are they pulling these numbers from? No more than 250. Now we are down to 50. Why 250? Why 50? Why not 25? Why not 10?

Quoted from pinballplusMN:

I just talked to a friend of mine that is a manager of dominos and he said they have been crazy busy and expects that they will be swamped as long as they are allowed to remain open.

Quoted from Adipocere:

They missed the window early...sort of like we are, so they had a spike in cases, not enough hospital beds=critical patients die.

Scary thing is USA has fewer beds per person than Italy.

“Flatten the curve”

Yeah but it seems like it is still spreading and infecting people instead of slowing down.

#1267 4 years ago

People already infected will continue to show symptoms and numbers will continue to rise for the next week or two. Nasty ass disease.

#1268 4 years ago
Quoted from Who-Dey:

Isnt Italy on total lockdown also? If so how come their numbers keep climbing and getting worse?

There is a delay. Any numbers you see now are about 6 days old.

The goal and way you know social distancing is working, is when the trajectory shifts.

Imagine the realistic way this all goes down.
D1 you are infected
D3 you feel your first symptoms
D5 you feel really shitty and head in to ER where they test you ( just now is that true)
D6 or likely D7 you get back your positive results.

Keep in mind that everything you touched and other people touched likely spread viral load to them. (They won’t all get sick but many will).

Lock it all down and numbers will still go up for a bit but you should have limited new cases.

After a few weeks of social distancing then things should slow in overall rate.

One more Meme before turning in and then back to the workforce tomorrow to bring you you’re life saving TP and groceries.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/2020/world/corona-simulator/

A good and simple visualization for how to think of the spread and social distancing.

#1273 4 years ago

They are closing everything down not to stop the infection, but to slow it down so not so many cases at the same time which would overwhelm the healthcare industry.

They want to see it last a year instead of just a couple months. So even when things open back up, it will still be out there for those that didn't get it yet.

For those that think outbreaks like this are over in a matter of weeks I give you this excerpt from the CDC summary of the H1N1 2009-2010 outbreak in the United States.

From April 12, 2009 to April 10, 2010, CDC estimated there were 60.8 million cases (range: 43.3-89.3 million), 274,304 hospitalizations (range: 195,086-402,719), and 12,469 deaths (range: 8868-18,306) in the United States due to the (H1N1)pdm09 virus.

i had a tour setup at Stern last week. they canceled it because of covid19. Im from louisiana. its not like i get to chicago every week. Ridiculous!!

#1277 4 years ago

I suppose every piece of mail that is dropped off at your house is a potential carrier, along with the usual suspects money and credit card terminals.

Not my mail. It sits in the mailbox for a week before I throw it in the trash. It’s all junk. I could let it sit there for weeks. Might just do that now.

What exactly are you stating is ridiculous? From your wording it reads as if you think it's ridiculous that the tour was cancelled...

Please correct me?

That’s with a .02 mortality rate, covid may come out at 1% or higher. Hope don’t get 60 million cases!

Probably referring to incomplete code

I'm not so lucky. Mine comes thru a slot in the front door on days the carrier is feeling ambitious. Other days he just throws it on the front porch.

The postal service is so messed up I can't get them to stop delivering to my grandma who died in 1979. Took a big pile of her mail directly to the postmaster and that changed nothing.

#1287 4 years ago
Quoted from Wickerman2:

Well that is ridiculous in my opinion. I never bought something with code less than 1.0. Even the DOS floppy I have in the basement is 1.3 or something.

Quoted from Wickerman2:

Hopefully not 1% or higher. Also hoping these shutdowns will help lower infected numbers. But if 1 out of 5 people were infected over a years time with H1N1 and this spreads the same way concern is warranted. Concern is not panic folks.

#1289 4 years ago

I suspect there will be quit a few politicians not getting re-elected in the future. He decided to go out to dinner with his family and then tweet about it.

My neighbor died and I kept an eye on her house for her daughter. The junk mail never stopped. Her son-in-law cured the problem by taking the mailbox down and hiding it. End of junk mail problem.

Harder to get junk mail to stop is to get a newspaper to stop. When mom moved out of her house, I had to go all the way to the top by e-mailing the president of the company.

Even if you cancel and stop paying, they will still throw that paper at your house.

At my house if I'm out front and they throw something like that out of a van, I throw it back aiming at the open window.
