Quoted from TheLaw:

They cancelled our schools earlier today. We had 2 cases moved to the hospital, but now we have the first in our county.

Yeah, I just read that all K-12 schools in Michigan must close until April 5th.

Quoted from Wickerman2:

Wish we had tests. Wife is up to 103 temp and Dr says stay home, no test...WTF? Not looking forward to the next few days to see if any of kids get it or myself. Hoping it’s “just” the normal flu.

Well, you might want to put that movie on a thumb drive just in case you get a chance for the test. "Right here, Doctor. It is supposed to be free." She did include rich people in the free testing arena, so that makes it OK. If the rich were not included then it would be socialized medicine

Not too many Schools closing here yet, though I suspect it's only a matter of time. My sons' school has been cancelling all external events.

One of his classmates' dad is a journalist (Jimmy Barnes' son for those who know Aussie Rock) who personally interviewed Tom Hanks this week while he was in Sydney...…...

Quoted from Who-Dey:

There's so many bugs that it's hard to say really but joke Phil-lee said, it just felt different and I've never had a dry cough like that. I swear I thought that I was going to cough a lung up.

I also had something that attacked my lungs about a month ago.
Dry cough, fever, and fatigue.
No sore throat or runny nose.
By day two I felt like I had 40% lung capacity and a very painful cough.
Lasted about a week.
I never had anything like that before.

#755 4 years ago

I had something in Jan, only lasted 2 days, sore throat, cough, congestion. The wife had something quite a bit worse for like 3 weeks at the same time. Assumption was that she had the flu, I had a cold. I still say that is probably what it was, but ?

#756 4 years ago

It just boggles the mind. Who loses when your kids stay home from school?

1) Daycare.

2) After school snack shops.

3) School bus companies usually have annual contracts with the city they work in. Do the busses go idle and still get paid by the city? The bus drivers get Jack for wages. In some states, bus drivers get unemployment. Not my state. If your bus wheels are not rolling you don't get paid.

4) What else?

Good luck to you and your family. Hopefully it's just a regular bug that goes away quickly. I do find it disturbing that you cant get tested. Its ridiculous, especially considering the coronavirus is clearly in your immediate area.

Yeah I have to stock up this weekend. Beer bullets and a box of twinkies.

Good luck! It was a zoo today. Even for those who think this is BS, the threat of lockdown is real. Are you gonna ignore that, or are you gonna stock up on beer and twinkies?

Quoted from swampfire:

Wow, exact same for me. At the end I was laying under a pile of blankets, shaking like crazy. I had the flu shot in January, so I doubt it was seasonal flu. I hope that was it (COVID-19) and I’m done for a while.

Dude. I had this. Tested positive for influenza A Victoria strand. Never had anything like it. 3 weeks of hell. 1 day in hospital getting fluids. I am 37.

This was a rare flu. Not corona. Otherwise there would be an out break map surrounding my house back from January

Hmm. Paycheck to paycheck economy...? How about those that cant afford health care and stick them with the most susceptible age group (grandoarents,) because they have no choice. Ugh

Police are already going to neighborhoods around here and telling them to close clubhouses/activities until further notice.

I think all these 'closings til end of month/for the next month/etc' everywhere will be extended. There is no way everything re: testing/treatment/cleaning all the people and places can be done in a month. We're not set up for it. Can everything be safely resolved in the US in 7 months by November?

If elections are postponed, then...

Its ridiculous,

I want to know if we have been exposed and if we have to tell work and friends/school....I’m no genius but that would help slow the spread if it turns positive. As it is we’re in limbo, family will stay home now.

Hoping for the flu!

I just remembered more about what I had 10/16/19.

I could not breathe, it felt like my lungs were full of fluid, but all I had was painful dry coughs and could not cough out any of the congestion no matter how hard I tried. At the time, that was all I wanted, to just cough some of that choking crap out.

And at the time I was operating a chainsaw on a clearing job, basically logging, and I was just ready to die.

I went to urgent care, because the last time I tried to have a real doctor I was told to make appointments 6 months in advance, and I have no clue if I will be sick 6 months in advance, so regular doc does not work for me. Anyway, urgent care was awesome, I was 100% in about 3 days with what they gave me.

And totally unrelated, or maybe not, but I also had tons of ear stuff also, that finally a specialist cured, but for a while so much pain I did think about suicide, and I am not that way, I could just not take any more of that pain.

#768 4 years ago

I was not finished, it just froze. Anyway, somehow I had severe lung and ear bacterial infections. No clue what it was. The lung issue was fixed fast, so I was able to breathe again fast, but the ear thing took forever, and they pulled like gravel from my ear. It was some weird and painful stuff.

should we run short of hospital beds, what about using the school facilities of temporarily closed schools [rooms, auditoriums, playfields] to deal with the overflow? multiple locations which would be in close proximity.

looking ahead. if and when several million test kits arrive in the US and a large number of people are tested, im not going to be surprised if the panic level elevates simply because the official number of cases will increase dramatically from where it has been, due to previously limited testing.

after reading the stories of recent illnesses where posters believe the may have had C19 weeks or months ago, it is possible that this virus may have been passed around for some time now. when large numbers are tested, the percentage of positives could turn out to be higher than otherwise expected.

Expect it to be insanely high. It’s worse here than anywhere in the world.

Yes, California already is preparing to take over hotels if need be. They will need them.

You will see National Guard tents all over the country.

I have had a few beers now(not corona), and really wanted to make a joke or wise crack, but while ago I remembered what bad shape I was in a few months ago, and all this has really hit me now.

Damn I felt like I was drowning, but I could not cough any of the water out.

Just a few hours ago I was rolling my eyes at media stories and what all was closing.

And for whatever reason, it hit me, damn, I was in bad shape a while back, I need to chill out, I never want to deal with that again, and I would not even wish any of that on a enemy.

The job I was working on was cool though, they had a pet deer, even had a flea caller around it's neck, and would just come up like a dog would. (and for the life of me at the moment I know caller is wrong, but I can not think how to spell that word).

Anyway, I have seen the light now, and I am no longer making fun of this. I big time could not deal with what I did 10/16/19 again. I had forgot about that.

And no, not a believer about a lot of stuff that gets posted here, but as far as a virus that can kick your ass and make you feel like you are drowning, I did that, and I do not want to go back there.

I wish everyone the best.

#780 4 years ago
Quoted from Isochronic_Frost:According to some pinsiders this is the best approach. Panic and think that every person you contact has a plague that will kill you. Then flood the hospital and infect everyone else so you get sent back home and have NOTHING HAPPEN. If you’ve got COVID-19 there’s no magic bullet or treatment, as badly as some of these soccermoms want to believe. It’s a fucking virus, you’ve got to sit it out and let your body do it’s thing.

it's not all about you... if you have the virus and you've just been on cruise full of elderly... you want to find out and let people know ASAP.

you don't want this thing to spread everywhere without knowing -- the math on that eventuality has been done and it's pretty catastrophic (maybe not for YOU but for specific age groups).

All schools just announced closed until April 5th here in Ontario. Got the call, email and Facebook notification from the school board Thursday evening. And all over the news
The government is also waving the 2 week waiting period to collect employment insurance sick benefits. And insuring no one will lose their job over illness.
With no reason to work sick. Or worry about missing pay.

However, once the kids are back in school. Quarantined people are back to work it's still gonna most likely ramp back up. Hopefully people are smart. Wash their hands and definitely stay home if they have it. And slow the spread over the next few months.

Think of the elderly. And people with autoimmune diseases.
And other health issues
I'm one of them. (However I'm currently not personally worried)
That's who will be hit hardest.
Along with the healthcare professionals in the frontlines.

Yesterday on the way home my wife called apologetically and asked me to pick up toilet paper at Sams Club as we were running low. There was none. There was no water. There were no dried beans. There were no eggs. I waited in line 30 minutes to check out and there were people waiting outside to get my shopping cart because there were none. I saw people wearing masks and gloves in the store. I saw people wearing hoodies closed over their faces. I saw what was close to a fight 3 registers down with a bunch of old ladies hounding someone who cut in line... whether or not there is a legitimate reason to panic, people are. Attached is a photo of the line yesterday... it went to the back of the store.

Context for those that are unaware: Maryland has closed ALL schools in the state (indefinitely? not sure for how long), and all those shoppers were parent panicking at the thought of their kids home FOR WEEKS!!

A story with a positive slant for a change?

https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/12/health/coronavirus-survivor-elizabeth-schneider/index.html

The key takeaway:

"I think the big takeaway I want to tell everyone is: Please don't panic," Schneider said. "If you are healthy, if you are younger, if you take good care of yourself when you're sick, you will recover, I believe. And I'm living proof of that."

That is positive. But there was another quote in the article that underscores why it’s so important to take this seriously:

"The grim reality is that, for the elderly, Covid-19 is almost a perfect killing machine," American Health Care Association President Mark Parkinson told CNN this week.

Just nice to finally hear a "survivor" story from the biased media.

To make that claim, you first have to prove that China owes us any favors.

Trade war payback, maybe? Perhaps even call it a sanction? Life can be a two-way street.

Wait until the FAA gives the all clear for the Boeing 737 Max, and China says they need to study the 737 situation a little more before the 737 can fly in China. Without China on board, the 737 will have a tough time of being airborne again. That's Boeing and the FAAs fault. And China holds a big knife, with 737 Max engraved on the blade, that it can twist when the time comes.

Payback because American companies and the world's companies sold the keys to the strong box to China years ago. Cheap Chinese Labor sings like a mermaid relaxing on the rocks.

Payback because the politicians allowed it happen in the first place because their votes were bought.

And now we are in a trade war with a country that can play the long game.

You say despicable. I say it was inevitable.

Then there’s the story about China reporting some people that recover lose 30% lung capacity and wheeze when walking fast...hopefully that’s minimal

Just like flu though!
