    Quoted from swampfire:

I’m focusing on fixing lamp issues on all of my older pins. I really like the little lamp test board I got from Pinitech: you know right away whether the problem is the board or the socket. Fathom had a problem where ALL of the feature lamps intermittently went out. It was a cold solder joint on BR1 on the rectifier board, an easy fix. I like “themed” repair weekends. Next weekend will be Atari color vector games.

What tool is this? Have a link.

Flash, the origin of this fun thread, went back together yesterday. It still has multiple personality syndrome, which will hopefully be cured by replacing the 40-pin interconnect between the 2 main circuit boards.

After almost 8 hours (8 f**king hours!!) of sanding, a heap of sandpaper and one blown up sander, we have a naked Skateball and Paragon!

Now they have to sit there until the NZ stores open again and I can go get a tin of filler to fill the holes. Then a final light sand and they’ll be ready for paint.

I'm hoping that this one goes better than the last one. I did this with a WH2O and it took 2-years before it ever went back together.

Spending a little time on a new light board for my HS restore. White base and a good clear coat.

Well since I am super basic, and apparently have a little OCD, I replaced all the insert LED's on Bad Cats and Phantom of the Opera with non-ghosting LED's.

I bought both the games with LED's already installed, and the ghosting really bothered me. LOL

Like I said, basic but effective.

Slowly finishing up this T2! 20+ years in a home and they never once took the glass off, somehow they never had a stuck ball I guess. I should be able to get it done this next weekend

A little over a month and the project is nearly done. Hard top, new plastics, total flipper rebuild, new pops, clear ramp and a new light scheme. Still need to get the rollover switches adjusted to get it 100%.

Appreciate all the forum help along the way!

I'm thinking of shopping my original MM today.

Not sure I want to start. Everything I did yesterday went wrong. I even screwed up a parts order.

Once MM is done then I have all the games in the back, and the JJP row up front done. Only 8 games left to do.

I always screw up a parts order Lloyd, don't feel bad. I once placed a $500 order with Marco and forgot the main thing I REALLY needed. D'oh!

Pretty good. He got a good cleaning, not a tear down like some of the others. Next new game coming in, he'll likely be the one to go.

Back wall is done. Front row of JJP games is done. Four on the south wall and three on the north wall are next. Unless I toss them out back. I'm sick of cleaning stuff.

    Thank you.

Pool tables vacuumed. Side tables had bases cleaned and two black ones repainted. Lots of other things I've run into and forgot taken care of. Bathroom walls above the ceramic tiles will be painted soon. Over head lights will be coming down soon and replaced with flat panel lighting. etc. etc.

How the hell did I miss this thread before? Nice work to everyone in here. Just went through all 8 pages.

First game I tackled three weeks ago was my Hulk. Complete tear down, new parts all around, Titan kit and polished every piece of metal.

Right before that, had to make a new light panel. And installed a new Shay backglass.

Out with the old (Big Game) and in with another old game. I Devil's Dare you!! Another catch and release game for a friend. Just need to repair it and do the typical Gottlieb bulletproof upgrades. He'll do the needed playfield work.

Also picked up a Contact last Thursday. Liking it a lot despite all the hate I’ve heard for the game. Not easy at all to spell out Contact five times for the extra ball.

Had to rewire the coin door last night. Wasn’t functioning other than the “aftermarket” credit button, and no lights. For some reason not having the price plates lit on a coin door really bothers me. Polished it too.

And on to Lizard now. Stripped it down last week. Removed mylar residue (always not fun).

Did some touch ups on the PF, still needs a little more in the middle. But need more paint colors.

    Still...time to reassemble.

They are bad indeed. For this game, I will be leaving it as they are. Just have the pitch a bit higher to ensure no slow ball catch on one.

My friend Art (of Comet fame) uses this:Everbrite (resized).pngEverbrite (resized).png

You can read about his method, which seems to work really well here:

    #387 3 years ago
    Quoted from Silverstreak02:

I hope that works for you. I tried it on two games without success.

Any PF pitched over 5.0 to 5.3 should avoid catching the ball, unless the inserts are cupped like a damn crater.

You can also level them with superglue or liquid glass if you don’t feel like popping them out, sanding and resetting. Someone pointed me to clear nail polish, but it seems like that would chip out eventually.

    #388 3 years ago

I've also successfully used 2 layers of mylar, one cut to fit inside the cup of the insert, another cut a smidge smaller yet. You can't see them and the ball rolls pretty true. Plus, they're easy to remove if you don't like the effect.

I used the eyedropper technique with two part auto clear coat on the cupped inserts on my Close Encounters. The technique is discussed elsewhere in the forum. While they are not 100%, they are close and the play improved markedly. I did not sand down the clear coat after it dried, I just tried to fill the cups level, with good success. You need good ventilation as the fumes are pretty strong.

I did something similar with a mix of clear acrylic medium and hardener, which can be sanded or smoothed with IPA. As perhaps with yours, they didn't come out perfectly level, but play way better than previously. I'm not a big fan of "ice skating rink" playfields, at least on old games, as they were built presuming the ball would make unpredictable moves when it crossed inserts or rollovers.

    #391 3 years ago

I spent the day sanding off the badly planked lacquer on the bare wood sections of my Miss-O. Very nerve-wracking as I don't want to destroy the paint around the areas too much, I need it as a guide for touchups!

on the top, I don't think its possible to completely remove the ball trail across the top but it certainly looks better than the section still to get done....hopefully once the new sealant goes on it won't be too bad.

I've been lucky to not be in lockdown due to my type of work but I have been spending my spare time these past couple weeks fixing up and modding this old lady! I'm about two thirds of the way through with this one.

I was just thinking - if I started naming every pin repair I’ve done in the last 4 weeks of lockdown, this thread would be 10 pages longer. Lol!

I'm happy to hear about the bits you've shared with us, and I'm tellin' you, we need to have a big party down under when this is all done. You can't possible play all your games by yourself!

    Quoted from mark532011:

I spent the day sanding off the badly planked lacquer on the bare wood sections of my Miss-O. Very nerve-wracking....

Hey Mark - you get double credit for working on an EM!

Go for it. What else is anybody doing? Work on the Stern Iron Maiden and post some pics. It’ll be like pinball porn.

Awesome work on the Zeppelin pin.

Finished up Lizard. Still needs more touch up and a little love, but much better already.

Did that one when it showed up here last year.

I bought that and the Catacomb from an old guy who bought them here from England years ago. Both very tidy. Probably the only ones in the country ...
