    Quoted from DeeGor:

So many mistakes were made, but I was able to recover from them. Not sure I'd ever do it again based on the amount of work, but it's not bad for a first time restore.

Looks great, and I can relate. I gave a decent chunk of my life to my WW.

Wow! Looks like a new machine! Just out of curiosity - is that a replacement playfield. I've never seen the area by the skill shot black before.

Be proud of all your hard work! looks great!

Thanks for the kind words guys.

Yes, it's a CPR reproduction playfield. The area isn't black, but more of a dark blue. Definitely darker than the original.

I had a really rough time with this playfield. Every single dimple on the bottom of the playfield was off. If I had used them as guides I would not be able to play this game. There are zero topside dimples or holes drilled, so I spent a lot of time measuring where the holes were on the original playfield and hoping everything lined up correctly. A few times, they did not. Also ran into the problem that many have complained about in other Whirlwind restore threads where a hole for a post was drilled incorrectly by CPR and had to compensate for that.

I'm not sure if all CPR playfields are like this or if my Whirlwind playfield was unique, but it really makes me think twice about purchasing another one. At one point I thought about just using this one as wall art and purchasing a Mirco playfield instead. Opted to keep going and in the end it all turned out okay.

Finished the last of the sorting. Tomorrow a few boxes go to storage.

Monday, dust off the playfield glasses. Dust mop the floor. Tuesday vacuum pool tables and clean playfield glasses, print up safety plan for customers and post. Wednesday get in early and turn on the pop machine to chill the pop after three months.

Than at noon on Wednesday open for business.

    This one was a mission.

I sprayed the first side in orange - left it to “dry” for like 6 hours, put it on cardboard to do the other side, and the cardboard left marks on the orange paint. The weather has got cold here so it hadn’t dried 100%.

So had to hand mask that all off, sand it back carefully, and redo it.

Then the next weekend, I sprayed the red on the cabinet. I finished spraying, turned around to put the can on the table, and some ultra fine rain drops came down and f**ked up all the paint! So, had to leave that to dry for a week, sand that all back by hand, and do it all again.

    Bit of a bloody mission!!

Anyway, it turned out good in the end.

My favourite bit of these restores is the back of the cabinet. All the seams filled and holes filled ... So clean looking!

It looks like most of us have gotten some relief from the tight quarantine rules. If you still want to post here I'll be monitoring. Meanwhile, I opened a new thread to describe what you didn't get finished during the lockdown, as well as new projects/problems you picked up during your stay at home.

Aren't they? Someone brings a Magic Castle to our pinball convention every year, and I get stuck playing it over and over just to get the castle doors to open.

I finished polishing the coin door today. I did it three times and still have some areas of light scratches and cloudiness. I’m not sure how some guys make these look like a mirror. I gave up and am calling it good enough.

When you get to "looks like a mirror", you're into better-than-original territory. This A-26 shows up in my town periodically and it looks just like your coin door. No A-26 in service ever looked like that, but it's pretty. Anyway, your work looks first rate to me.

I finished the coin door today. It was completely disassembled, cleaned, painted or polished. I think it is much better and will go well with the freshly painted cabinet.

Well, the table that started this thread 3 months ago just played its first game in 20 years. Thanks to the Kohouts brothers (pinballpcb.com), Flash has a completely new brain - MPU/Driver, Power Supply and Sound Board. It's loud, now that it works!

Now that it has a brain, it's apparent what else needs fixing. Upper left rollover does nothing, both sets of drop targets have trouble resetting during play (but not at end-of-ball), and the lower left kicker doesn't kick. I think those are at least common to all old Williams SS tables, so there's hope.

Best wishes from the upper left corner of the country....IMG_1422 (resized).JPGIMG_1422 (resized).JPG

p.s. Notice the cool voltmeter built into the power supply!

Finally got some hours off from the house rebuild, and got a day to work on the Skateball.

    She’s all done!

    - full cabinet restore
    - new CPR playfield
    - minty original backglass and plastics
    - restored legs
    - polished metalwork

Just got to get a new coin door skin at some stage, and polish the lock bar.

Lots of hours put into it, but she came up nice.

So three months ago on this very thread I claimed that my space shuttle was finished. That's ridiculous, these projects are never finished, just abandoned. I've Been a Long Time Shuttle owner and for at least a decade I've wanted to create a three-dimensional modification over the pop bumpers. Thanks to a little extra covid-19 time at home and countless pinside members that helped along the way, I can now say ,"look what I've done here" instead of," one of these days I'm going to do this here".

Not a game, but a house project.
Been clearing out a lot of the dried up brush on the propert because it’s fire season (last one got 1.2 miles from the house).
Decided to put in a paver walkway while we were at it with a round circle of pavers at the end.
Just finished putting this concrete table on it and blew out on of the casters on my dolly in the process.
End product looks pretty good though I think.

I’m not sure why, but I took apart my Space Mission chime box. I polished what I could and painted the rest.

Do you think it sounds different, now that it's all shined up?

Unfortunately no. It will still be a clunk box.

I’m getting a lot done during my 2 weeks off between jobs. I was about 90% done with a Mata Hari playfield swap, then my new C37 playfield came in. If I can get it swapped and back in the game by Friday, it’ll be a new record for me. Usually I sit on a new playfield for years before I get around to doing a swap. But this one is way too pretty to sit.

I've been working on a strikes and spares for the last 5 weeks or so. It needed a lot of love. The playfield is in rough shape and my attempt at repaint didn't so so we'll. Where were you able to find the replacement, if you don't mind me asking. I've had terrible luck.
