Put freshly powder coated armor on Superman. Thanks to HemiOrange09 for the excellent job at refreshing these. The lockdown bar and side rails were pretty rusty.

Hey!! Looks good. Atari LD bars and siderails are always rusted to hell. I went with red/yellow when I did mine last year.

    Quoted from chuckwurt:

I don’t really have any projects, but here are my tweaks I’d like to address while we are on house arrest:
Diamond lady spot targets behind the drops are shifting. Need to tighten them up
High hand isn’t always scoring the correct bonus (narrowed it down to cleaning the bonus stepper I think)
Replace the flipper guides on big game
Clean GOT prem (man this game needs cleaned so often!)
LED a couple of my EMs
Repin the LDB and SDB on my stars

Just to follow up on my list I’m all done. Now gotta put up some high scores for the quarantine league!

Put a color DMD in Who Dunnit and moved it into the house with its friends.
Also started arranging the garage, which is where most of the arcade games live.
The idea is the have pinball rooms in the house and an arcade in the garage.

    Quoted from Skidave:

    A little teaser...[quoted image]

Since I'm working the score reels of an Old Chicago right now, I'm gonna guess OLD CHICAGO... dead giveaway it's a Bally straight away is the dirt pattern between each number... Bally's score reels are a snap to work on, and are just fine design wise EXCEPT this problem... even with ultra clean mechs, plungers and new coil sleeves:

After about 800 games on my MH EM, I have to clean player 1 reels already!

    #459 3 years ago

Me, I'm working on the next two Pinball Adventures games; one has the initial virtual layout already signed off on, now I'm getting the other ready for final approval to move onto the next step. Just because we can't *make* anything right now doesn't mean there isn't still a lot of work to do beforehand in moving toward.

Not that I expect many here to care about what the games actually *are*, but both will be a technical step up from Punny Factory, with more in them while still adhering to a 'less is more' philosophy; the key to achieving this, as well as doing something unconventional, is to make each feature or shot stand out so the player wants to shoot it, and they all have an obvious distinct purpose rather than the whole playfield blending together into one generic 'meh'. You can make a game look and feel significantly more packed this way than it actually is; no game to me demonstrates it better than Fish Tales.

Got the Dr. Dude back together, and now it looks like I'll be chasing down a switch matrix problem

I probably (I am hoping) missed a connector on the underside somewhere. I REALLY hope that's all. What's odd is that the VUK fires continually in attract mode.

Yes, a Bally. I'll post more when I finish working through the hacks, shoddy repairs and broken items.

Doing a teardown of the topside on my newly bought Whitewater; cleaning , machine polishing all metal and replacing broken plastics. Will ofc service the underside too, including changing of all coil sleeves.

I had a motor just came in for the middle reel on the Who Dunnit slot machine. I'll get that in. Sure glad I didn't have it when I had that whole unit out and put new reels on it.

As long as I'm thinking up aggravating projects. The BBB here has one coin switch that has always been flaky. May as well replace it too and be done with it. Had same issue on Breakshot. Remove the coin door, work on a bench. Easier than sitting on the floor messing with it.

Swords of Fury was blowing a fuse when the kick out coil or the ball pop coil fired which are wired on the same cuircuit.
Replaced the coils and it’s working like a champ. Game seems to be 100% now. Also replaced the under cabinet speaker which was blown.
Been getting a lot of little things done and most of my machines are now 100%.
Thinking about picking up something new to work on.

Right you are. Not an A title earner for me when it came out. But was a consistent earner and had it long after other pins came and went.

I liked having a choice of timed game or regular game. Added to the players choices.

I got distracted from my Lawman restoration (restoring a cabinet/playfield in an apartment is uh.... difficult). Decided to take on my Rocky and Bullwinkle topside teardown. First DMD title teardown and it feels good to have this bad boy cleaned up some.

Got Stellar Wars to the point where I can safely power it up. Not playable yet but looking good. This was a PF swap. The original PF was actually in average shape. I was able to secure another PF that saw very little use. Unfortunately it was missing the huge center insert and even had some water damage on the artwork around the left outlane. I pulled the middle insert off my original playfield and sent the second PF over to CaptainNeo and with a little work on both our parts it turned into the below.

Might take more pictures in it's own thread once everything is done.

Try the switch by itself - if it works needs adjusting or not in game play but does in test then new switch. If it doesn't work by itself, then a break in wiring from switch to board in the head.

I put a new playfield in a CFTBL. Now putting in a new playfield in a Williams Indiana Jones. It's in rough shape, a ton of work. I have been working on the cabinet and backbox for 2 weeks, just about ready to apply the new decals.

    Quoted from Tsskinne:

Because my Star Gazer cabinet can join that club...

Tommy - if I was making a Star Gazer, that’s a high dollar game .. I’d spring a couple of extra bucks and have the cabinet professionally painted by a car painter with 2 Pack paint in his booth.

That’s what I do now ... costs me $400 all up ($250 USD) but it’s well worth it. I used to do them myself ... the pros make a way better job than we can do at home, and it’s not really that much more than buying all the 2 pack paint etc. That stuff is expensive!

I spend about a day prepping the cabinet, sanding, filling every staple hole, rescrewing the joints properly, removing all excess bolts, more sanding, more filling ... prep is everything. Gotta get it right or every flaw will show through.

Then I do the stencils myself.

It’s more effort ... and a couple of extra bucks ... but it’s well worth it. Imo.

Shit, if Evel Knievel is worth doing, then Star Gazer is!

The pictures don’t really show it, it’s hard to capture - but the cabinet looks like a glossy lacquered piece of furniture in person.

Too late for Star Gazer, but building a Quicksilver next and I’ll look into it for that. Thanks.

That's one game I would hate to do a swap on. All those stupid transistor boards and relays on the underside of the PFs. Good luck!

    Never too late.

My theory - if you’re spending $1000 for playfield and $120 for stencils and $500 for wiring and $600 for boards then what’s another $250 to make it look like a $7000 machine ...

Just installed Pinitech 6264 NVRAM into a friend's CD wall mounted jukebox. That got rid of the swollen lithium battery that was dead. No more worries about batteries failing and now his machine stays on free play. 20200509_131521 (resized).jpg20200509_131521 (resized).jpg20200509_132441 (resized).jpg20200509_132441 (resized).jpg95698743_578535522785418_6590055144463794176_n (resized).jpg95698743_578535522785418_6590055144463794176_n (resized).jpg

I bought both of these OXOs in the past 2 months. The first was on the first day of my quarantine, March 13. The second one was a total fluke. An old friend called and asked me to help him bring a game up a hill covered in pine straw. I ended up buying it, and used its cabinet, head and pop bumper caps to make my first OXO a lot nicer.

After combining the 2 to make 1 nice one today, I fixed a bunch of other problems and I’m close to 100%. Can’t wait to just PLAY this.

Do we need a failures of quarantine thread?

Something went wrong...sanded down and repainting. Blue is back on now. White will go on next week.

I like that idea - a sub-thread at least, for projects which resist completion.
