    Quoted from ercvacation:

. They know PayPal is real money and the right amount. It's the safest and easiest way in my opinion.

    100% wrong.

It is the easiest way to get ripped off for sure.

    Quoted from Borygard:

You can't send a "gift" payment with credit card funds though.

    Yes you can.

The sender has to pay the fee rather than the receiver.

A great way to get ripped off.

The right amount minus paypals fees and any claims the buyer might file later.

You can use PayPal and bypass the fees by using send money to friend/family (no charge).

Any idea how many people on this site have been ripped off via a PayPal sale for a pin?

    Quoted from CactusJack:

FYI. The pens only indicate you are dealing with real paper, not photo copies etc. One way to counterfeit is to bleach lower denomination notes and reprint higher ones on the real paper. Like using $1.00 bills to make $100.00 ones. That embedded strip that actually reads the denomination like TEN etc. Is one of the best ways to know for sure.

This happened at my work, some tweaker washed five dollar bills then reprinted to a hundred dollar bill. The water mark is the most important thing too check.

That's why it surprises me that it's frowned upon to accept paypal. They know PayPal is real money and the right amount. It's the safest and easiest way in my opinion.

The primary reason is if you have to contested transaction, it goes into dispute, or other mitigation you are $#@!ed.
This does not even consider scams.
PayPal for large transactions is a fee hit as well depending on the nature of the sale.
"Go talk to Ebay customers" if you want to learn more.
More first time pinball machine buyers have the "woes of toil and desperation" almost as long as the history of the internet in the past 15+ years.

If you don't handle cash everyday for transactions it could be trickier but there are lots of counterfeit markings to look for. Another cheap investment would be a uv light to check the embedded colored threads. I agree though that while it's good to be cautious someone's not going to have that much correspondence with you and try to pass off fake bills vs going to a show and trying to pass some bills then take off before you've figured it out.

It's an uncomfortable experience when you have to tell someone that you can't accept their payment because it unfortunately doesn't pass the verification measures for authenticity but laughable when they attempt to give you more fake currency. Also, criminals will bleach $5 bills and reprint them as 100s which renders the pen pointless.
