Assuming this playfield debacle never happened, and hopefully it gets straightened out real soon.........could Ghostbusters be the best Pinball machine Stern has ever made? I think it's possible. Please, only people who have actually played the machine and who have spent a fair amount of time on it reply. If you have never played GB, please do not reply.

No.

Too early to tell. Id say its a top 20. Code will tell.

Then of course there is the next game, and Expo is suppose to show off maybe 4 or 5 new pins, and the Bar gets raised again.

It certainly qualifies, for me, in the Fun department. Ill need a couple years to get back to you!

Top 10 so far.

#6 7 years ago

Not sure about the best pin ever, but certainly one of the best with integration of theme, art, audio, rules, challenge and fun.

I would say its going to be a top 10 of all time guaranteed.

Looks great but tedious and just way too hard: so no

Change the topic title to ( COULD HAVE )
shame about the issues, but it is a ripper fun game.

The early issues definitely suck and hurt sales, but if they get the issues straightened out, its not going to stop GB from being a great pin. Ghostbusters still has a long run ahead of it and if the playfield issues get resolved they are going to sell a ton of them. I think it could easily be Sterns best selling pin ever, at least of the new modern Sterns anyway. I dont know how their machines sell now compared to way back in the day.

I love the difficulty of it, but I have noticed that my friends (non-pinheads) were gritting their teeth and walking away in frustration after they had a few games. "It keeps going straight down the middle. Is that a design fault?" - it's meant to challenge you...and make money on site. "oh, it's just really frustrating when it does that". I'm wondering if the difficulty of it over time will get annoying or if I'll become a better player?

I can also see how the progression of modes can annoy some people, but it gives me something to aim for. Seeing the Stay Puft mode that I just can't seem to get to.

It's good, maybe top 20 good.

#15 7 years ago

i think its a good game, but certainly NOT the best ever.

#16 7 years ago

Good game but it will look dated next to the new Stern LCD's and code is a bit too linear.

#17 7 years ago

Dated? Whether a pin looks old or is old, has the latest design, or big ass LCD has never really played a part in how good it is IMO.

Top 20 game at best. Maybe top 30

Just like attack from Mars and medieval madness.

#19 7 years ago

I wasn't impressed when I played it. There are so many games that are better. I wouldn't even put it in the top 5 games Stern is making right now.

It's a great looking pin and the theme is A+.

#20 7 years ago

We all know Target Alpha is the best game ever.

#21 7 years ago

well, let's say its really different & refreshing, your didnt get the feeling to already have seen/played something similar
nice theme, superb artwork, sound/efx matching
design has some flow, will say its average, not to brutal, not too much "stop & go"; with some shoots too easy (right lane) and just next some shoot to hard (the right ramp)
and than the gameplay, which must be linked logically to the code : its quite good already (and not poor as some others titles were at the begining), but for sure it needs more than few updates

i still want to believe these will come, and than may be yes, this pin could be a killer

I agree with everything you said. There definitely needs to be some code work done. I just meant after the bugs are worked out and a better updated code, could this be the best pin ever? I mean it probably won't be the best ever but I truly think this game is awesome and is a shoe in to be ranked in the top 10 best pins ever after its all said wnd done. Yes its hard and it can piss you off with its short ball times but damn it is fun as hell!

#23 7 years ago

I think it's a great game. Best pin ever? No. Even with tweaks it's hard for any pin to join the conversation of best pin ever.

#24 7 years ago

No.....but it is fun, had mine for 3 months now.

#25 7 years ago
Quoted from Msch:

What? MM and AFM do not have linear code. You need to look at these again. HUGE difference!

#26 7 years ago

Is this s real question? Gb is fun but there are many many other pins that beat it in every category imo . Top 25 probably but definitely not best ever ....

#27 7 years ago

Themewise, it's top 10 for me. Gameplaywise, not even close.

#28 7 years ago

Stern made a great game in Ghostbusters. Art, music, features, gameplay. The game is fantastic and the difficulty ins't a turnoff for me. There are a few games in the top 10 that are not as good as Ghostbusters. I wouldn't say number one, but it is outstanding.

There are a few design tweaks needed:
1. Airball guard on left ramp entrance for prem/LE
2. Slightly higher inlane rails

Once they take care of the customers with playfield issues (yes I am one of them) - They will have one of their best sellers ever - LCD or not! The game is under the glass.

#29 7 years ago

Best ever? Really?!

Not even close so far for me.

#30 7 years ago

The end of ball bonuses are ridiculous!!! Need to be cut down by a factor of 1000.

Yes its a real question. Tell me 10 pins that are better please.

#32 7 years ago

It seems like the top 20 machines tend to have long ball times and have fairly deep rules. Iron Man, for example, has its fervent fans but is known for being brutal with short ball times and it sits at 34 in the ranking.

It seems like Ghostbusters is more like Iron Man than Lord of the Rings (if you would like to compare only Stern machines).

#33 7 years ago

Yes I've played GB at various locations.Despite all the issues It's a fun top 25 game.Best ever.No.No way.

#34 7 years ago

Assuming code evolves, I would definitely put the premium/LE in the top 15 all time maybe top 10. There are at least 4-5 games there that don't do jack shit for me in any way.

The pro isn't in top 25. It lacks too many of the cool features of the prem/LE

Jmho

#35 7 years ago

The air balls make me cringe, the build quality of a lot of GB's is terrible from what i've seen on pinside, the code isn't finished and there are lots of bugs in the current code. I do agree it's fun, but it's got a long ways to go to be permanently anywhere in the top 50. Finished right, I do think it can be up by Metallica or even higher, time shall tell.

#36 7 years ago

Ghostbusters could be the best pin ever! But so could Medieval Madness, or Avatar, or High Roller Casino or any of the other 100's of Pins out there. It depends on what YOU enjoy.

"Best" is an opinion, and everyone has their own opinion. Perhaps ghostbusters IS the best pin for you. And that's great. I just got mine, I think it's a blast; and I'm happy to meet others who feel similarly.

For me, I don't have a "best pin". There are so many to choose from, and I really appreciate the VARIETY out there. For example, I would not want a Stern Wrestlemania Pin in my collection- and the pinside ratings would tell me it's not as well rated, but when I find one out on location, i feel compelled to play - partially because I have fun, and partially because there are so few out in the wild, I want to take advantage of it when I can.

#37 7 years ago

Good pinball and I enjoy it, but NO!

#38 7 years ago

No way, no how. Really?

#39 7 years ago

I'll report back once I've played every pin ever made at least once.

#40 7 years ago

Assuming the theme, layout, code, ruleset, sound and artwork debacles never happened, Wrestlemania could have been the best pinball machine ever made.

Well look at my collection.... all my current collection imo is much better than gb at the moment.... except for wcs but for the money id take wcs all day long .

Its good, but not MET good...

#43 7 years ago

Flame suit on, but Tron and LOTR are the only Sterns in top 20 in my book

#44 7 years ago

Not the best. It's very good. I think it will vacillate in the top 20 for the balance of its history.

#45 7 years ago

It is too early too tell. As a general rule, we will know in about 24 months how popular the game is. In many cases, this is well pass the production run. However, talking to people in business they all agree, this is the best pinball game Stern produced and will have the largest production run. As far as my personal view, this game is certainly well promoted and we have a huge demand for it. Only time will tell...

#46 7 years ago

Was playing a MB a bunch last night, one that wasn't levelled nonetheless. Played 3 games on a GB Pro, and didn't play terribly... but we still went right back to MB.

So for me, it wasn't the best even out of 2 games, let alone ~5000 or so other titles.

#47 7 years ago
Quoted from Who-Dey:

Assuming this playfield debacle never happened

But it did happen. And it will be around this games neck forever.

Hard games are supposed to intrigue you, not irritate you. With the lineiar rules (you are stuck with them forever), it got boring fast. I, like a lot of people, just walked away. Not a top 10, not even close.

#48 7 years ago
Quoted from PoMC:

You don't understand. All you have to do to name this the greatest pinball machine ever is play the last 2 games Stern released. Or just buy this one.

#49 7 years ago

No

#50 7 years ago
Quoted from pinballOsp:

The hard factor will turn off weak players after a few games so no it is not likely to end up top 5. The top rated games are typically approachable and inviting for weak players and skilled players. Maybe TZ is an exception.
