Quoted from Pinballmike217:

There's nothing to announce yet, it's just a complaint. Suncoast Pinball has to respond to it and hopefully will get caught up on payments or negotiate new terms with the landlord. This happens everywhere all the time. A declaration of bankruptcy is a whole different animal and that's what we don't want to see. We are still far from that.

Nope. The landlord sued suncoast over the unpaid rent and was filing for eviction on sept 4. On sept 13, suncoast filed for voluntary chapter 11 protection. FC2D625D-EBB3-4AF6-AA05-699D741BC757 (resized).jpegFC2D625D-EBB3-4AF6-AA05-699D741BC757 (resized).jpeg

Going for chapter 11 just a week after a small 20kish lawsuit isn’t all that promising. That probably means they don’t have much to fight with and we’re truly on the ropes.

Quoted from dung:

I am wondering if sales have been slower than expected. For awhile just about anyone who announced a new machine would have pre-orders lined up. Now there are too many games and not enough new blood pumping money in. This game did not get the fanfare from day one which is kinda odd. It is an original theme which people keep clamoring for, but there just never seemed to be much buzz.

Even still... companies shouldn't expect to be in the black on their first game. Startup costs are just too high and per unit costs are too high until you hit higher volumes. You have to have a nest egg to expect to get through the red times until your volume increases to the point to increase revenues to pay for overhead, debt, and new investment/next stuff.

Just getting a game done is not enough.

Quoted from jwilson:

The take-away from this would be to concentrate on making the game actually FUN, look GREAT and sound GOOD. Take your time on this part. I think if Suncoast had made the game FUN they'd be fine.
Pinball is hard.

Another point to highlight..

TNA
TBL
Archer

What do they all have in common? Passion projects designed and prototyped without the overhead of a company burning through your money. They were all projects flushed out by the designer with their own money and resources before building/joining a company to build them.

HWP, Suncoast, Zidware, Homepin, and almost spooky... all struggled with burn rate while trying to get their products to market because there appears there is a notion you need to be a factory to be taken seriously. Spooky held to their guns, stayed as small as possible, and supplemented themselves with free labor and side work, to weather that part of the storm. Suncoast seemed to be 'right sized' and not taking the bait of trying to put the cart before the horse.. but I guess just weren't capitalized enough to get multiple games to market.

Quoted from gliebig:

Theme isn't what killed this game.

The buying pattern in this home owner nib fueled market is...

Hype on rumored details...
.. hype on theme and the hook it has on people...
..... hype on looks...
Rush to buy as soon as possible based on that pent up energy and desire to have it in hand

Original themes miss on most of that. And even rumored dev team can only carry a title so far (bksor).

It’s a tall high to climb as an original title... and the pattern is people are buying games on looks and themes.

Quoted from Coindork:

It’s instantly become a rare pinball machine.

Rare doesn’t mean anything if it’s not desirable as well
