Hi,
I'm new to this Pinball ownership thing and picked up a Corvette machine a month ago. Everything was OK until yesterday.
The problem is that the engine is no longer shaking therefore when a ball gets inside it is stuck and the only option is to manually get it out. The machine shows 'LT-5 engine error' on the display. I appreciated that there are probably a few reasons for this but I wonder if anyone knows what my first steps should be?

The first thing to do is open up the machine and lift the playfield and look for a wire that has broken off the motor connection. Since it's a vibration device that is usually the problem. Do that and let us know if that's not the problem and we will help from there. It could also be the switch that senses the ball being in there.

I assume this is the item you are talking about:

Here is your parts list:

From what I see on that there is a ribbon cable connecting that and also a control PCB. Also try unplugging and reconnecting the ribbon cable between them.

Thanks for the quick response .
I've checked all the wires and they appear connected and intact. Tried the ribbon cable also to no avail. Did find a loose connection for a switch on the outer loop so my efforts weren't wasted. I think as you say it may be the switch that senses the ball. Now the ball no longer is sticking in the engine but running out without locking as the switch appears permanently open. The engine whilst not vibrating does move slowly when the machine is powered up although not at all during gameplay

We're always glad to help. Hopefully that parts list will help if you need something.

For items try these places:

Let us know what you find. You seem to be knowledgeable about servicing your machine. You never know the technical level someone has when first responding. Some people don't even know how to open up their machine. I really hope it isn't the part that makes the motor vibrate.

Oh and BTW welcome to the forum if you are new. It's nice to see people more and more seeking us out here. I guess we are showing up more on the search engines lately.

Wouldn't use the word 'knowledgeable' about my servicing skills! Although having looked underneath the machine for the first time it does make a wee bit more sense
There is a work colleague who knows a guy who services arcade machines and I will try and get him to look at it.
I'd imagine most places ship to the UK. we are in Hamilton, Scotland and most of the specialist UK places are in England so call outs would be expensive I fear. I don't know if I've fell to the e-bay curse or not but the machine was working well for 4 weeks- I will take a closer look at engine assembly tomorrow in daylight.

Thanks again for the support

We have several UK members. I bet Bugray could be of help to you. Send him a pinside mail message. I'm sure he'd be glad to help out with info.

The owner of the forum is in the Netherlands and can help you with sources for parts etc too. He's kinda busy sometimes being without kiddos etc .. hehe

It's 'shaking' again! Don't really know what I did
Did a manual test on engine, physically moving it from left to right and whereas before it would stay leaning to left prior to powering up it has now started centering again. The switch wire that i reconnected now means the game is playing well....but.....the drawback; now the DMD is becoming blurred and breaking up after approximately 10 minutes playtime and does not recover unless machine is off for a few hours. Still we are in a better position than 3 weeks ago and i know a wee bit more about these pesky machines

The DMD blurring could be a couple of things:

High Voltage short/arcing on the display board (common)
Dirty display eprom socket

The first thing I'd do is look at the display board for anything that looks burnt. Many times people will find a trace burnt or burning away between diodes. If you find nothing then pull the display eprom and reseat it.

If it was a gas leakage problem in the display it wouldn't be good for awhile and then go bad. It would just keep getting worse.
