Any help will be greatly appreciated, I'm new to the forum. Had this machine for about 2 months, and all is functioning fine, then occasionally the engine would just flop or slam to the right during game play. So i would flip the flippers and it would stand back up and work normally again. The engine initialized fine but this started to happen more often.Currently the engine will initialize upon start up ok,but when a game is started it always slams to the right and rarely centers back up straight when flippers are used. I checked all connections on the backbox board for the engine and the board under the table.Connectors, ribbons and fuses are all ok. I bought this machine from my boss who ordered it new for his house and the machine is mint, very low play time.I find it interesting that it always goes to the right.I think the damn thing is trying to tell me something, I'm just not smart enough if it's board related. I have 8 Williams system 3-6 machines and I know those boards ways, but this thing is a beast.

I had a similar problem with mine. I also had a few target switches not working. It turned out I had some board problems on the CPU-s board.

#3 11 years ago

who fixed your board ?

#4 11 years ago

A fellow pinsider here named joe . He is from palmerton. Pa he did a great repair in a quick time. I am not sure this is your problem???? Do you have any error codes in test?

#5 11 years ago

Run it through the LT-5 special test. Does it work then?

It usually passes the self test. Only acts up in game play. Then only code Lt5 error

#7 11 years ago

When it slams to the right you can feel that the right side coils are on

Check the plugs coming from the hall effect censor to the position centering PCB. Unfortunately you will have to disassemble the motor to get to these. This may be a case of a molex plug going bad from vibration over the years.

OK IM doing that right now, let u know. Thank you a ton.

Bill, thanks for the kind words. Glad I can help you with your board problems.

Just for the sake of it, go into the switch test and rock the engine to the left and right to make sure it is recording both optos.

#12 11 years ago

Did that and left 88,right 120 . During test it doesn't glide left then right. It sits to the left and waits a couple seconds. Then slams left and waits a couple more then slams right and shows fail with those numbers. In game mode it will shake but Parks off to the left and right. Looked at all the boards and disassembled the engine, harnesses, connectors, look OK. No breaks on the solder joints. I did notice that the cradle was touching the right optic barely. What do you think now? Wont initialize at all now

#13 11 years ago

Shutoff the LT5 for now and tied it straight. Entire game works perfect even the gates in a d out ofLT5. Oh well. Ill wait for more info.

If you have an ohm meter, I think you need to check for a shorted coil. I had one that smoked and slammed to the right, but I don't think it recovered like yours. The 4 coils should have close to the same resistance.

#15 11 years ago

Did that. All resistances the same. In game play it sometimes acts normal for 10 to 20 sec. Even though it wont initialize properly anymore. Im thinking boards? Or Opto. Lt5 test with coin door open and manually moving engine left to right the picture of the engine moves correctly, left the n middle then right but no #,s. Coin door switch closed and self test slams left. Then right and fails but shows #,s. Im starting to get confused.lol

The drive transistors for the coils is where I would start.

I'm new to this group. The problem might be a bad potentiometer.

Check:
http://www.ipdb.org/search.pl?any=corvette&search=Search+Database&searchtype=quick
Then download:
http://mirror2.ipdb.org/files/570/Bally_1994_Corvette_Manual_Amendment_16_9890.pdf

Right at the beginning it mentions the engine test procedure. A potentiometer is used to adjust the centering. It may be dirty or just a bad one.

Not sure which board, I'll start lookin. Thanks to all for helping.

was there ever a solution here. I am having the same issue except mine slams to the left and will not do anything else. It's like its locked up, all boards checked out fine all coils and transistors checked out. The entire game is shopped and practically perfect otherwise. This is driving me nuts.

I am also having the same issue. It will lock to sides. Can not find a center.

Welcome to the most over-engineered pinball playfield toy in existence.

You've got two possibilities. Most were shipped with an adjustable hall effect magnetic sensor. Some (early production) were not.

This is the amendment to the service manual for getting your LT5 fixed:

https://www.ipdb.org/files/570/Bally_1994_Corvette_Manual_Amendment_16_9890.pdf

On two of the last corvettes I've worked on with LT5 issues it was a replacement REALLY LONG ribbon cable that made the difference in getting it fixed.

This toy can be quite a bit to get fixed. If you have access to a technician who has done this repair in the past, it might be well worth your time to pay that person to handle this repair.

Other than that, follow this thread, read the pinwiki reference:

https://www.pinwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Corvette

and follow the link at the end of that reference:

When you've done all that, let us know what you find and we'll be able to help you further.
