Pinwiki shows STTNG power driver board as an A-12697-1. The manual also specifies A-12697-1. However, I see many other references that show an A-12697-3 used, and the one currently in my game that I need to replace is an A-12697-3 out of a Popeye. No idea if it works as I got the game non-working.

I see on Pinwiki that the earlier TZ's originally came with the -1 board and switched to -3, and also that a coindoor interlock switch was introduced. Was this the reason for the PD board change? My STTNG is a reimport from Germany and has a coindoor switch that's simpler than the usual American switch (fewer terminals & wires), if that makes a difference.

I need a new PD board for my game but now I'm completely confused as to whether to get the -1 or the -3. What are the differences between these two boards? Any help is appreciated.

-1 or -3 is fine for STTNG.
-1 has a relay for flippers. -3 doesn’t but on games from TAF on flipper boards are in place to handle that.
That’s a not so technical overview .Tech savvy guys can get into it if your curious but that’s all you really need to know.

Weren't they all already Fliptronics machines in this era? Odd that STTNG would go back to the earlier -1 board without a good reason. I am curious, but mostly because I don't want to blow 400 bucks on an incorrect board.

It should be the -3 board but technically the -1 will work to clarify.
It’s likely a typo if the -1 is suggested or noted as correct.

Here's the info from Pinwiki, and also the manual specifies -1.

Was also just reading that since STTNG was such a overly complicated game, Williams used parts on boards to control things that weren't normally controlled by those boards because they just ran out of room on the correct boards, could that have something to do with it? Flipper components may have controlled something not flipper-related?

I have -3 driver board in my game since purchased in 2010 and have no issues.

Relay section is not needed on this game. I have a reimport game, which has nothing to do what driver board is in the game.
