    Checking a circuit to the flipper coil shown below. Put one lead on the yellow connection at the transformer. Touch either the lower or the upper flipper coil and they fire. Go to the orange/black wire at the left flipper button touch it with the lead the coils do not fire. Does this mean there is a short in the orange/black wire?

    Sounds like it. Do you have a test lead you can jumper from the switch to the coil and try it. Do it quickly as the lead probably can't take the current for.long

    Are you saying put a test lead on the switch attach the other end to the coil, bypassing the orange/black wire?

    Yes you are just replacing that wire essentially. Of course the game expects to be started and with a ball in the shooter lane to make sure the flippers are active

    I think you mean it's an open, not a short (not trying to nit-pick). If so, you should be able verify w/an ohm meter.
