8 Ball arcade...... Too bad it was a front for a drug dealing operation. Gee how bold could they have been about it.

Came back to work in my old town and found the building that housed my old arcade had the facade pulled off to reveal the old arcade sign. It was about 1983 I played there.

    Pirate’s Cove, Monterey Park, CA

Family Billards (yes, it was misspelled) in Westminster Colorado.

No family ever went there but you could pick up almost any drug you wanted. Playboy was the new, hot game to play - at least until Flash came out.

My favorite local spot from back in the day was CHALLENGES. Here's an image (not mine)...

    challenges (resized).jpegchallenges (resized).jpeg

Before it was CHALLENGES it was an arcade called SPACE PORT.

I actually don't remember if the arcade in my local mall even had a name other than Arcade back when I went there as a teen, but it may be somewhat unique in the fact that it survived all the way up until last year (although in a different location, closer to the movie theater) under the name Video Zone.

    Not terribly "cool," I know.

Used to wake up early and drive to Winnipeg on Sunday mornings to get 3 hours for $5.

Went there for street fighter and mortal kombat. They also had LAN setups for doom.

Always hated the damn loud knockers the pinball machines had. Scared the shit outta me. Now I can’t get enough of em, and add knockers to all my modern sterns.

Space Port and Time Tunnel and Time Warp. where the best names in my area. Then we also had Family Fun Center.

    #25 1 year ago

    "Golden Cue"

Pool tables, pinball machines, major drug deals and some hard people. It was owned by a mid-level Mafia hood. I was 16 years old and always hanging out so he hired me to manage the place. I learned more about the real world from those years than anything I learned in college.

Had one near me called "Spaceplex" when I was in high school / college.

In the 80's and early 90's Downers Grove had 'Just Games'. It wasn't a 'mega' arcade, but it had all the staple games. I spent so much time there, I got to know the manager. When he was bored, he would coin up Chexx bubble hockey and we would play. Great memories of simpler times!

Had a few arcades in Tulsa in the 80's (mostly in malls), but the one name I can recall was Funway Freeway. However, the arcade I frequented most was in Woodland Hills Mall next to the movie theatre.

Aladdin's Castle, Willowbrook Mall Houston TX, also next to a theater.

Games People Play, scaled down version of Malibu Grand Prix. I spent more time / money in the arcade than go carts or bumper boats.
