I live in the deep South. Coming from Minnesota, after 30 some years I am still looking for Soda Pop. I am beginning to think Soda Pop doesn't exist here.

See 'yall later......... Ha ha ha ha

If you don't yet have virtual diabetes from looking at photos of liquid birthday cake... here is a EM-to-SS project (Big Shot) being documented:

Oh is this cause it's all "Coke" down there? My friend from NH grew up that same way, "Coke" for everything.

Okay, I read through the blog. Something tells me it didn't take "a weekend" to wire it up like they thought. And WTF is this:

At some point I'm also going to clean up the playfield. The plan there is to strip it down (which will take about 5 minutes on this thing) and sand it with some fine-grit sandpaper to get the gunk off of it. Then I can touch up anything needed (not much, really), wax it, and put it back together

Have these guys ever work on a pinball before? Sandpaper? Makes me wonder.........

The whole topic of converting an EM to SS was ridiculous anyway, not wonder it turned into
a sugar rush fest of the absurd.

Comparing Faygo to Shasta? WTF? Faygo red pop is delicious! Shasta most likely tastes like sewer drainage. I hate Shasta. YUCK!

I don't think the regular moderators spend too much time here.

I'm here most days, and now there are two more new Mods, one of which has been in with us EM Guys.

I do like the way this thread went from EM to SS within 5 posts it’s about Charcoal V Propane BBQs.

This thread has gone off topic, o well.

Here's one (no large numbers or an article).

Sure would be nice to see an article that some guy is converting SS to EM's in large numbers for a change.

    Quoted from Rat_Tomago:

    I'll second that. Pure swill.

Fresca used to run ads that showed it snowing whenever someone took a drink. So we said if you drink too much of it, you'll snow in your pants.

Anyone remember Rondo? Another citrus drink. Their slogan was "Rondo-slam it down." A guy in my dorm in college was boinking a chick named Rhonda and we used to say to him, "Rhonda-slam her down." He was never amused by it.

Tinkertoys! I had these! And I'm only 35. I also had Erector Sets too. However, my dad's hardcore old school toys. He can repair just about any 50's or 60's battery operated toy. The Robot Commando by Ideal is his specialty. No worries about shooting your eye out in my childhood household.

I always wanted one of these for scientific study:
    0524-xray.png

I remember these when I was a kid. I never had one though. It was always cheap enough to tantalize yet too expensive to actually grasp. If only I had one of these back then all of the world problems would be solved:
    0524-compguide.png

I also very much wanted one of these teletype machines. If I only had that teletype machine then I wouldn't need the x-ray glasses:

    #131 4 years ago

Steve, I hear ya! Those x-ray specs seemed too good to be true. Plus a dollar was a dollar. So I spent my hard earned cash on Tank Trap.

So it’s clear, no one here is really interested in converting EMs to SS.
Yep, that’s what this Thread is really about, remember.

Did anyone here buy the X Ray glasses? We had that exact same ad in Australia, always wanted a pair, think I still do!!

    #135 4 years ago

No, but if you're nice, I'll tell you all about those real exploding tanks.

Not me, but I have been known to put on the occasional Beer goggles.

I guess I can be on board if it is as the article says, "re-applied to old EMs as a last resort to get them going again."

I originally thought this would be cool. Then I read the article. Not a fan.
What EM ever couldn't have the controls fixed? He claims they were "too far gone", yet Tim Arnold was able to create a TKO with just a schematic. I guess Tim is considerably smarter than this genius.

I'd like to know more about that! Is there an article somewhere?

    #146 4 years ago

I'm not going to dig mine out but the exploding tanks were about two inches long with front and rear sections that were held together by a rubber band. It was a board game and if you captured the tank, you pushed down on top of it and it flew apart, wiping out all the nearby soldiers. It was $1.50 well spent.

Some of the cooler toys weren't that much money, but could be used as a weapon against your older brother.

Ooo! Comics! I can get in on this. Here's the first issue of Tales To Hold You Spellbound from March, 1952. It's not in great shape but it was my father's so it's special to me. I do have a couple of the other issues in the series too. It's a lot like Vault of Horror or Tales From The Crypt in that it has three or so stories that usually end with someone's horrible demise. Gotta love horror comics from this era! I took it out of the bag for the pic.
