Hi,

I have a Gottlieb baseball from 1970 that is missing it's lockdown bar which uses the stud style bar. Since those are near impossible to find, I'm wondering if i can convert it to use the shark fin style receiver and lockdown bar which is easier to find. When looking at the receiver on my Jungle Queen it looks like it should fit but i figured i would ask before i spend money on parts that may not work. Thank you in advance for any advice.

shark fin style receivers wont fit without alteration. i tried using a dragon receiver in a card whiz and it wouldnt fit. em games have a thicker front .

Thank you for the reply. The thing is though the shark fin style is on some em's like jungle queen. How much did you have to modify the receiver?

I just held up a shark-fin receiver near a mid-70s cabinet and compared them. There are a couple of routed plywood pieces glued to the inside edge of the cabinet that needs to be pried off. You will also need to route away some of the outer edges of the cabinet to fit the width of the receiver. All of the coin chutes on this older style of cabinet are blocked by the receiver, so you will have to grind out openings in the metal if you want to use coins. There might be some issue with how the coin door latches with the anti-lift shoulder pin, but that can be moved.

You can probably get it to work, but it will take a lot of adjustments.

Thanks, that sounds like more work then i was hoping. I am now thinking oh buying the buttons and welding them to a shark fin lockdown bar after cutting the fins off obviously. The buttons are only 2.22 each. Wish i had a junk shark fin lockdown bar to test with incase i mess it up lol.

1. The shark fin bar and receiver are plug and play after you remove the extra 1/4" ply layer on the inside front of the cabinet. The ply layer is only stapled in - no glue.

2. I'm unaware of any other modifications needed to the cabinet or the receiver for this to work.

3. As noted above, the one compromise is that the shark fin receivers do not have the slots nor the drilled/tapped holes to accept the coin chutes on the interior of the cabinet. It would take some work to address that.
