Quoted from romulusx:

If anyone is considering buying a Wonka ,do so with confidence.
I just got a Wonka SE that was built 10/30 and it’s playfield is perfect!

For now. Give it time. My 9 months old potc just started showing the pooling around certain posts.

Why would you buy new?

But you said “buy with confidence” from your sample size of one. Before you’ve got any significant number of plays. I just personally wouldn’t give buying advice based off that. People won’t know this is solved for months. If you absolutely can’t wait and don’t mind imperfections, buy with confidence. Otherwise, buy used. And play numbers have almost flipped on their head in terms of pricing. I wouldn’t buy anything with less than 300 plays!

Not to mention the stock some distributors might have could easily still be from the defect era.

Sample size of three now

I suspect you’re just being witty and I shouldn’t take the bait. But you must realize my jjpotc probably looked just the same as your WonkaCE on the showroom floor. Now it has pooling. Months later. So you have a sample size of three with a total of a few plays between them. What can that really tell people about other pins for sale right now?

Look, I love JJP and want the best for them. And I really hope your machine remains flawless. I really do. I just think you’re misleading people with the “buy with confidence” thing. Nobody should have confidence at this point. Either in the product or the manufacturer.

Quoted from Seatmandan:

for some reason, the pooling takes time to show up. Not sure why. I'm assuming the first batch of games it shows up much quicker, if it is indeed still rearing its head on later games.

This is why I roll my eyes every time someone comes on here and says, “my new ___ pin with born on date ___ is perfect!! Buy with confidence! They’ve solved it!”

It’s like antivaxers that say “I never got mumps so vaccines are unnecessary!”

You can’t extrapolate like that!

I’m putting my flame suit on, but I’m helping fix up a Star Wars home pin (it’s actually awesome, btw). It has a playfield unlike what I’ve seen before. Looks like particle board? No dimpling or other problems, but it has a slight orange peel texture everywhere. Is this the future of playfields? If not, why not (other than tradition)?

So I am not sure about the particle board diagnosis. It just has that look and texture. Anyone know for sure?

Quoted from tbutler6:

Stern MAY have this almost under control
AIQ buyers issues (myself included) seem to be isolated to ballguides being torqued into the PF buy an air gun on a hexnut under the PF. A few of us loosed a couple areas of concern and lifted the guides using a small fiber washer.
Many of us agree the JP premiums/TMNT/AIQs playfields are off good quality so far. Dimples are extremely minor, if the wood was junk that may not be the case. Posts look fine.
So if you don’t have a chipped shooter lane, torqued guides, you should be good. There are signs Stern is trying to get this under control. Cabinets are more robust, coil stops seem to be improved-overall, including the playfield the games are evolving slightly (can’t say “improved” because some of the mechs are still faulty)

Not sure if there’s an “almost” to this. It’s either fixed or not. Every new release there’s a group of people who say “problem solved because mine has no problems”. I don’t think it works that way, but I’m sincerely happy yours is good!

I’m happy to report that I finally got my jjpotc replacement playfield. I had some minor chipping around posts that was actually hidden under the posts that I found while installing cliffys. They covered it and I’m pleased.

Stern just shared a video of the Star Wars comic art production on social media. The play fields appear to be MDF. How do you guys feel about that.

Same playfield as the home pin. Mine is holding up pretty well. As good as their current stuff anyway.
