Quoted from TomGWI:

As some of you know when I got my Jurassic Park from Stern the playfield had pooling. This is what it looks like now in the home environment.[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

I'm not trying to be a wise guy or anything but I'm a relative noob and want to understand what I'm looking at.

Is the problem in the photos around the lower post, with the metal washer under it?
It looks like the blue paint around the post has chipped and that's what the white areas are?

Quoted from TomGWI:

Likely the paint/clear flaking aka paint chips

I wonder why they wouldn't design the artwork around the post with a little buffer space and a black line, like they did around the other slingshot parts?

I’m curious from a technical standpoint, why would the issues seem to be machine specific?
How is the manufacturing of JP different from SW?
You see and read about issues with one but not the other.

My SW comic art playfield clear looks great, no pooling or chipping anywhere and the inserts are a seamless blend. Only “issue” is that after 200 plays it has a lot of dimpling. I think that’s mainly because it’s a really fast game. I even have dimples on the left ramp flap, which is metal!

Waiting for someone to whine about the cheaper metal they must be using today.

So for any of you that bought a more recent game like Jurassic Park or Elviras house of horrors how they looking? Does it look like the issue has been resolved by Stern.

As someone who has been following this thread for a while, I would have to say the answer is no.

Quoted from LukyDuck:

Wooden lanes dimple. They are made of maple on the approach/pin deck and pine for the rest of the lane. They used to sand them every few years to remove the dimples and even out the lanes for leagues/tournaments. When they sanded them down to a certain point, they would replace them just like real wood flooring. All wood dimples under the right circumstances! The smaller the pressure point/greater the weight/impact, the more likely the wood will dimple. Humidity, temperature and age of the wood all affect wood and it’s hardness. Along with what type of sealer you put on the wood.
And yes, most of the oldest trees/best aged wood have been cut down. They provided the best wood for manufacturing. No wants to wait 75 to 200 years for them to grow up. Don’t get me wrong, they still exist in some places in the world. But the wood is not cheap and all maple trees are not the same.

This is true. Wooden bowling lanes do dimple. The thick oil layer on top minimizes the damage but lanes need regular maintenance to remove the surface lacquer, sand the wood, and refinish.

Since the 80’s it’s pretty much all synthetic material that wears differently.

Quoted from pinballaddicted:

Why not? That does not bother me at all. That is just some different wood in the ply, nothing to worry about at all.

Correct. That should not count as a playfield defect
