Just another 55 days to the "A night with Jersey Jack Pinball" event at Expo. If nothing else, someone has to get answers out of the crew.
Quoted from razorsedge:The balls can not get even close to touching the washers.
I meant the upper washers. I edited my post. Sorry for the confusion.
Quoted from TomT:It is beyond me why anyone would giver either company a dime until this is resolved.
Some have given one of the COmpaNies $550.00 [plus shipping] for a spare playfield. That COmpaNy must have one helluva hypnotist's pocket watch......
Quoted from Vakarian:New feature matrix:
Auto-customizing Playfield - pooling, rippling and chipping of varying degrees over an unspecified period of time sure to delight and amaze you as changes create that one-of-kind patina unique to your game. Results may vary. No extra charge.
JJP would find a way to monetize it.
Quoted from o-din:And how nobody has mentioned a real resolve yet.
Well, Jack says JJP is working on it. Listen to his one-way statement on the monotone sycophant twins podcast; "It's from the heart". His retirement may have been pushed back a bit with this.
I've completed several swaps of Eight Ball Deluxe and Centaur playfields. 20-22 hours each including troubleshooting and adjustments for me.
Quoted from PanzerFreak:That's really good. Think maybe 50 hours then for a Pirates due to the amount of parts on the game?
I'm not sure. Many on these problem playfield threads say that the JJP playfields will be easier, taking less time due to modularity, added connectors etc. I know I would not perform a playfield swap for less than $2K. I would need the complete machine as I'd need to make sure it properly fit and seats in the cabinet as well as every light and switch worked.
I may value my time differently than others so if someone will do it for $1k and it's top-notch work, that's the way to go. Also note, I am not offering to swap playfields at this time. My personal schedule is booked for two years.
Quoted from NeilMcRae:my engine has blown up in my car. BMW dropped a new engine off and I'm doing the swap myself.
Are you guys serious? A replacement playfield on its own is +nowhere+ NEAR an acceptable solution to this. Please please please for the love of god stop saying it is.
Cheers,
Neil.
This pinball thing is more akin to BMW sending you a new engine block and the a connecting rod that snapped and grenaded your engine. Remove engine, remove everything from the old engine and install it on the new one. Don't forget $200.00 or more worth of gaskets & seals. Also hundreds of dollars worth of special tools.....
Bally and Williams, when they were real, stand-alone companies were publically traded in the '70's forward. They gained great Capital to expand and diversify. Selling slot machines as Gambling expanded sure helped Bally. Williams (Seeburg, the Parent company) stumbled with them at first, stopped making them then got back into the business in the '90's.
When they had issues, they had real, parts stocking, service department equipped distributors who handled repairs, kitting of repair parts and would install parts if needed. They repaired boards, monitors etc. in-house quickly. The service department was very busy with ten technicians and three parts guys. The manufacturers paid the distributors to make problems go away.
I briefly worked for Bally Midwest (Former Empire Distributing) in their Livonia, Michigan branch as a board technician. I left the route operator for more money and what I thought would be a chance to grow. A week later, the two owners of the route and their silent partner came in and talked to the GM of the branch (Everybody's pal, Hank Heiser) asking if he would be pissed if they offered me a deal I couldn't refuse. Or, they asked him to fire me so I would come crawling back to them. I was called in the office and they made me a really nice offer so I went back. Of course the business later went South with the video game crash so I eventually left the business, re-entered college and never looked back. Other than as a hobbyist and one of Clay's slaves at the VFW.
Quoted from zaphX:I might get hit by a truck years from now. Today, I'm having a great time playing a great game!
Of course if you're in a Tesla, you'll be fine since they are the best-built, highest quality vehicles there are. Just like JJP machines.
Quoted from PW79:I was in the NIB market during Stern’s ghosted insert era (2017 me thinks)
Before pulling the trigger I reached out to Stern to see if they fixed the issue.
No response
Then the new Star Wars manual had wording stating ghosting was normal IIRC
So I bought a NIB Golden Tee instead & love it
This time around I am eyeing a NIB Big Buck Hunter HD
Or maybe I will just wait & see what Stern does
Either way I’m buying some more cool shit so life is good
Super Chex looks awesome. Get one dude!
Maybe buy a few new slot machines instead of pins. You think pins are expensive? The new slots are approaching $40K apiece with an unlicensed theme.
Quoted from meSz:Agree with Cosmo here. I've been waiting on Stern for 3 months now for something else and anytime I call in I get "let me look into it and get back to you". Call week later and get "oh yeah, let me look into it for you and get back to you"
Call them again. As soon as they say that, tell them to stop right there. You have f-i-v-e minutes starting now to solve this. Otherwise I'm calling the credit card company and starting a chargeback. I have my waste of time CONtacts with you documented. You can come pick up your piece of shit machine. I am done. Don't care if it's a distributor getting dinked, they will sue you or short pay you on a current invoice.
Show them that two can play this game....
Quoted from BMore-Pinball:Yeah, but how long do you think it takes a casino to break even on a slot machine? Months, weeks, days?
High traffic casinos with a popular game get under 90 day payback. If the trend is significantly less, out they go back to the manufacturer.
Quoted from luckymoey:You'd think Stern would publish something about the change in the design around posts, and possibly the clear coat itself, but they are apparently still being very careful not to say or do anything that could increase their liability. I hope they don't convince themselves that the damage to customer goodwill and NIB sales won't be too bad if they just fix the problem going forward without properly addressing defective playfields on the past several games. They've always done right by me, which is a big reason I was willing to buy NIB despite their ridiculously poor written warranty.
They did publish something. All of their flyers state "Game subject to change".
Quoted from JohnnyPinball007:I once had a exterminator giving me the run around about finishing a job I had already paid in full for. My BBB claim got his butt back in gear.
So he was extorted, I mean he paid, to join the BBB and then tried to weasel out on work. Glad it helped you be made whole.
Quoted from iceman44:Who is gonna organize the attack on Stern at expo and demand answers from them on the spot? Or will it be the usual ass kissing contest?
Need to hammer away like this thread until they cave!
Tie yourselves together in a human blockade and block off the exits until we get some info!
You know if a verbal question attack is staged on Jack, he will have Martin edit it out. Just like his attack on Gary was edited out from the 2011 TPF video that's out there.
Quoted from Roostking:Wrong. I just got informed that I have a recall on a 2010 vehicle I own. Has it been a problem, no. Should the manufacturer take care of it if they identify a problem. Ill let you answer that.
There is a big difference between a "Service Action" or Campaign versus a "Recall". Whether the Recall is "voluntary" or forced, it means NHTSA was involved in the USA, MOT in Canada, TUV in Germany etc.
Quoted from Chambahz:There are no Ferrari’s in the parking lot.
But there was a Lamborghini in the executive lot at Williams (3401 N. California Ave.) in the mid-1990's.
Also a Bentley at WMS in Waukegan (and N. California when Brian G. was slumming it) until 2013.
Quoted from zaphX:I think you should demand a completely new shirt AND demand they put it on your body for you.
If you're not the original owner of the shirt or did not buy it from an authorized distributor, no warranty. If it was a freebie tossed to you at a pinball show ra-ra pep rally, no warranty.
Quoted from flynnibus:Maybe you should go back and update your wildly inaccurate stories with corrections.
That has to be the first time that he ever lied in a post for dramatization.
He's slipping as he forgot to write at least one word in his fable using all CAPITAL letters to get better SHOCK VALUE.
Quoted from EricHadley:You are still looking at easily 20 hours of work. I make $200/hr, so is Stern going to pay me $4000 for me to swap my playfield?
And as I always say, my personal time is worth double of what I make in salary.
Quoted from jfh:How much is it worth if you don’t have a salary?
Double of what your last job's pay rate was adjusted for inflation plus double any monthly defined benefit income divided by 176. Social Security, pensions. Nothing for dividends, interest, Capital gains or annuity income.
Quoted from smalltownguy2:Not even close.
If I told you the profit on a JJP SE, you'd shit your pants.
Tough way to make a buck......
Quoted from Tranquilize:I just sent my second email today, after two months of crickets. Would emails every day do anything?
Pick up the phone and call Sterk/Stern. Calling , after getting out of an automated attendant, provides instant two-way communication. No waiting for a response that may never come.
Quoted from Utesichiban:I think a call from a lawyer talking class action with them is more likely to get action than any distributor.
Gary's education is in the field of Law. He knows what he has and doesn't have to do.
Quoted from JohnnyPinball007:I told him I am not interested in any more Stern products.
Quoted from guitarded:Ask an adult how the 80s worked out for them.
I loved their first response in 1986: $5000.00 off any new Audi 5000 model with an automatic transmission. Then in '87 it went up to $8,000.00 of ANY new Audi (this was USA only).
If JJP offers $8k off any of their pins, it would save face. No need to adjust for inflation.
Quoted from snaroff:Well, I’m 58...but sure, my Dad (85) actually owned an Audi in the 80’s and was taken care of quite nicely and bought Audi’s over several generations. Did you ever own a defective Audi? Probably not...
I bought an '87 5000CS turbo quattro new with the deal they offered. It was awesome. The car lasted 18 years and had 286,000 miles before I donated it to charity. Owned several Audi's between '83 and this year. They have been great vehicles.
They can go pretty fast too.
365280-i (1) (resized).pngHas JJP offered a full refund if you return the complete, defective machine? That seems like another solution.
Quoted from romulusx:Has Stern?
Yes. Via the distributor Cleveland Coin. A real brick & mortar distributor with a stocked parts and service department. Also vending machine sales & service. Now known as Shaffer Distributing.
Quoted from Utesichiban:Who is the moron that made these comments?..
"Cool Joe" Kaminkow. Was "VP of Cool Games at IGT". If you see him, as him how his "That's Entertainment" CONcept worked out. It was supposed to challenge Chuck E. Cheese's Pizza Time Theaters and Show Biz Pizza Place.
Quoted from Multiballmaniac1:Joe Kaminkow is a total simp
Loved his silly title at IGT: Vice President of Cool Games
Quoted from Yelobird:Lol you are kidding right? Do you think 8’ sheets of plywood come from 8’ wide trees??
You meant "4' wide trees" but it got the point across. My old job took me to Boise, Idaho a lot. I remember seeing plywood being made. Quite the industrial process. Not sure if it was at a Weyerhaeuser or Boise-Cascade facility. Might have been in the Carolinas now that I think of it. I traveled so much back then...
Quoted from mbwalker:[quoted image]
I'm surprised JJP's best-built, highest quality pins were not equipped with redwood or sequoia playfields. At least on the ones over $9k retail
Quoted from romulusx:Damn that's a shame this being your first pin and first post!
I see what you did there....
Quoted from Sako-TRG:the wigs on Steve Ritchie’s head
Well, at least on KaPow's head.
Quoted from o-din:Perhaps. But I know where I won't be spending any more pinball money.
Not so much because of the piss poor quality, just that I realize I don't fit the demographic or whatever they are trying to do. Don't want to be in a club that seems lame as hell to me.
I wouldn't join any club that would have me as a member......
Quoted from Doctor6:I cannot hear diddly squat in that video
Watch on a PC, not on a phone. The file type won't play the audio correctly on my phone either.
Great message to hear.
