Just had a chance to play JP2 for the first time on location. Neat layout, ramp shots are really satisfying. Don't love the skillshot, and the overall theme integration is a bit lacking beyond generic-dinosaur-adventure.

Not sure how long it's been there, but it also has some unfortunate chipping in a number of locations. It was in a lineup of modern games and you could see similar failures on Wonka, Guardians, Munsters. The only newer game that didn't seem to have any playfield issues was Deadpool.

It still bunches up, just not under the posts. This is my JPLE, and I imagine most are the same way. They didn't actually fix anything in the process, just masked it by moving the art and thinning the clear.

Quoted from Manic:

Makes sense though... their "solution" to the CC problem was to change *nothing* but then only do ONE spray pass on the PF.
And then take the short cut of simply moving the art away from the posts.
They figure there will not be remotely enough clear then to bunch up anywhere...
Probably not a great long term solution.

It happens on both sides.

It's not a clearcoat issue. It's the ink not adhering to the wood when force is applied. The clear isn't pooling, it's just lifting up as air gets underneath.

Quoted from Fytr:

All this talk of the post being too tight, blah blah is just noise. The issue is that the clearcoat hasn't setup properly. It's still semi-viscous and "flows" based on pressure.

I think they deserve less sympathy on this because it's been a known issue for years. They've had multiple chances to address this issue before turning the line back on, and have made a calculated risk that it's not worth the time and/or expense to really fix it right. Perhaps this has now crossed the point where it finally comes back to bite them and they really do have to shut things down while they bring up a new supplier/process, and make existing customers whole.

Quoted from Jvspin:

I would bet they are trying to fix the problem. Why wouldn't they? But trying doesn't mean solving and they have to keep the factory going to stay in business. I don't want to apologize for them but it's a nightmare of a situation to be in.
How do you think it would affect their business if they publically announced that their playfields may pool or chip and that although they're working to solve the problem they don't know if or when they will find a solution.
We want transparency but it seems like bad news without a solution is never received well.

If it's truly "indefinite", then they shouldn't be in business. Perhaps it is time for them to just shut the whole thing down and go home.

There's a known path back to old materials + processes, but they seem unwilling to invest the time and/or cost in building those supplier relationships (or have already alienated everyone who could help). Alternatively, they could bring it in house and iterate until they get it right.

Quoted from Jvspin:

Some things are not so easy to fix, if at all. Playfield clear coat issues with DTS printing seems like one of these things, otherwise I don't think we'd be seeing all these problems from different manufacturers.
What if keeping the line turned off for an indefinite amount of time means shutting down the company? What do you do?

I had several similar spots on Mando. I think it's areas that were missed in final polish vs. something that scratched later. I didn't get anywhere with Novus 2, but Novus 3 followed by 2 shined it up nicely.

Quoted from yancy:

No chance you hurt it with Novus 2 or something similar. It's okay to try to fix some things yourself instead of immediately making it the manufacturer's problem. It's stuff like this that hurts legitimate claims.

Didn't take any before pictures, and after it really just looks like the rest of the playfield. Turned out great, and really not worth making a big deal out of something like that.

I did have some clearcoat chipping under the left sling. This was a bit nastier, but also not hard to fix and looks 100% now. Details here: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/this-is-the-way-the-mandalorian-owners-club/page/35#post-6511047

Quoted from crujones4life:

Do you by chance have a before and after? I'd be interested in seeing pics if you do.
