It's all there right in front of you. Do I need to move the light or use a telephoto lens?

That ghosted insert looks horrible! Call a lawyer ASAP and take photos from all angles then bitch about it for 3 years, lol!

I got five 2020 built Sterns with zero playfield issues. If your $10-13k game has washers around the posts that is not fixed in my opinion thats a band-aid(embarrassing)and i wouldnt buy it. The only Stern playfield i ever had issues with they replaced with populated playfield but when i had pooling issue and clearcoat sticking to star posts on WOZ they ignored me so i avoid JJP anymore unless its a Hobbit, there built like tanks!

See this shit, people? This right here...THIS....is why I'm so livid.
And I'm right there with you - it's absolutely NUTS that Stern and JJP think that what they've done is an acceptable solution. I will never buy a NIB pin again, and I will tell anyone not to either.

What Stern have you bought recently? I see you have a issue with Wonka but no Sterns? Just wondering.

Quoted from smalltownguy2:

Are you asserting that playfield issues do not exist with Stern?

No they have issues also was just wondering if you bought any recent Sterns and didnt have them in your collection history. Simple as that no drama intended.

Quoted from jawjaw:

I would buy a game with pf issues if priced right. Just saying. These games still play just as well as one with no pf issues. No game is worthless. Someone even bought that busted Cyclopes from the warehouse raid that was literally covered in crap. The more appropriate thing to say is there is diminished value. How much diminished value is different depending on actual condition. The common way to compensate that value is a blank pf. That pf has value so again misleading to say it has zero value.

As much as i hate chipped peeling pooling playfields id buy one to and do the swap myself. I enjoy working on pins so it wouldnt be a issue but the price id pay would have to be about $500 less then a good playfield game.

Preceisely. I don't need to have skin in the game with Stern to see they are fucking over their customers too.
Don't get me wrong. I love all of the new pins coming out. Guns & Roses is a real winner for sure. And Stern's latest Avengers pin is a blast. But I will never roll the dice on on a NIB pin, and I urge others not to do the same. Buy used, and examine what you are getting.

The problem with that is some games the wear only happens after so many plays and can look perfect out of the box, looking at you STERN! All the Avengers games will have chipped playfields from the ball guides at ant man, same with JP2, and DP plus probably many others if the new owners dont fix the guides quick enough. Cant believe they cant put a damn washer under the ball guides.

Im not a defender of any brands. A shit playfield is a shit playfield no matter who makes it and is unacceptable for the amount of money we pay for these toys.

Ah, and that's the missing piece that the guys who are happy to get an unpopped pf, and happy to do their own swaps are forgetting! There's no guarantee that the replacement pf you get will be any better than the bad one you got out of the box. Imagine doing all the work for the swap, and then having the new pf have the same problems. Would be a nightmare!
Now maybe there are ways to check your replacement pf, and ways to mitigate cc issues, but still...

Ive had a replacement populated playfield show up worse then the original and older date stamped so theres no guarantee that way either. Still better then being ignored by another company when i told them the art and clear completely came up the size of a quarter almost when i moved a star post to narrow the outlanes directly out of the box.

Quoted from BeeGee6533:

I have purchased 3 NIB Sterns within the last 6 months. My first NIB purchases ever. One of them has a perfect playfield, one has pooling that I may have mitigated using the Yelobird iron method, the other has significant art chipping off after a few months of play. I had a deposit on another Stern lined up that I recently cancelled since Stern is only going to send an unpopulated playfield for my severely damaged machine. This wasn’t acceptable to me whatsoever. I would have probably purchased at least 2-3 more Sterns over the next year. But now I will not bc they do not treat customers well who have this problem. It’s as simple as that. Maybe they don’t care at all. But as a consumer this is apparently the only recourse I have: Don’t buy from them anymore. I’m reminded of a definition of “insanity” regarding repeating the same act and expecting a different result. I understand that some people think an unpopulated pf is a satisfactory resolution. I vehemently disagree with that assessment and cannot participate in this insanity anymore with Stern. Which is unfortunate. But I will gladly buy used.

Heres the thing...buying a newer used pin is still money in the pocket of the company most times because most sell new pins to buy NIB games. NIB buyers are not going to stop and the used just out of box market isnt going to stop so it keeps going and going with no repercussions besides a few angry im never going to buy NIB again buyers that are funding the used market which is funding the NIB market. The only way to make any kind of difference is to not buy any current in production pins used or new to stop the flow of the market but we all know that will not happen unless the entire industry and economy tanks.

And you consider that a win?

No both companys suck when it comes to this subject but at that time one company was shady and the other just ignored me, pick your poison i guess.

This operator has found out how to avoid pooling

Not sure that Star Wars ever had many playfield issues but I will add that my playfield looks great. Got my game 3/31/21 and have played about 150 games. Lots of multiballs. I have some very light dimpling that can be seen in certain light when looking for it (which we should expect). No pooling. Art work has been pulled back from posts vs original earlier runs. Clear coat looks great. Just thought I'd share my experience.

My SW playfield is one tough son of a bitch! The cabinet and playfield feel heavier then all the other Sterns ive had that are similar age. Nudging on SW takes alittle more force to move compared to every Stern ive owned the game feels so solid. My games got barely any dimples and i get lots of airballs that normally would leave craters but not SW. SW is Sterns version of JJP Hobbit when it comes to how solid the playfields are.

Quoted from Darscot:

There was some bad Star Wars early on. I know for me that was the first pin that took dimpling to a whole new level. There was one on route and it was just a mushy mess.

I had one of the very first SW pro at release. It ghosted on all the large mini wizard mode inserts. They definitely changed something between then and 3 years later because my Premium is rock solid.
