Quoted from PanzerFreak:

GOTG was announced in October of 2017 but is still being made. The picture of the GOTG with this issue was likely made sometime between summer 2018 and now.

I have a Maiden Pro built in early April 2018 which has some pooling around posts, so it was happening before Summer.

Quoted from PanzerFreak:

Good to know. If this issue occurs on Stern games it seems limited to pooling versus chipping that is occurring on some JJP games. Has anyone seen a Stern game with post chipping made in the past two years?

my game had a small piece of clear chip up, but luckily the artwork didn't come up with it. The issue hasn't gotten any worse in the past year and Stern sent me an unpopulated playfield that I could swap in at a later date if it does get worse. I'm happy with the resolution and the service provided by Stern. It hasn't altered the enjoyment of my game one bit and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Stern in the future.

Quoted from pinballplusMN:

Ive played games with a hardtop and like the play ability. Im wondering if this maybe the future for new titles. Seems easier to build and more durable with out issues described above.

I hope not. It's essentially a laminate layer and could bring on issues of its own later down the line. I like the look and feel of real wood and I feel that long term it is probably easier to repair and maintain. If a hardtop chips or cracks is there a good way to repair it?

Quoted from Darkwing:

You could just cut the playfield protector out and carry-on, or install a new one. My restored Judge Dredd came with a protector already installed, and while the ball does spin a lot more on average, I’m happy with it and totally leaving it in. I’m one to wax playfields regularly so some extra spin is fine.

A hardtop is different than a playfield protector. A hardtop is actually glued to the wood whereas a protector floats. I don't like either option over wood but at least the protector isn't permanent.

Quoted from iceman44:

Don't put on Cliffys, protectors or mylar on your new Bricks game, you don't need it! LOL
Let's see what that shooter lane looks like after a few thousand plays without it.

After seeing a R&M playfield up close in person I honestly don't think you need any of that stuff. Nicest quality playfield I've ever seen from a factory. It's jaw dropping. You don't need to go with a Haggis/Deeproot type playfield if you are putting out that kind of quality. It's amazing! Just wait for the reports once people start getting their games.

Quoted from Shapeshifter:

Was the peak of Stern games, quality wise around 2003 - 2004?
TSPP and LOTR were leagues ahead of the stuff being built now.
That said, most consumables aren't the same quality as they used to be.

TSPP and LOTR were plagued with playfield registration issues, pixelated artwork and buzzy flippers. I think the peak for Stern was during the SAM years until they made the move to the new factory and then switched to the newer clear coat. My 2012 ACDC Premium is about as flawless as it gets all around.

Not to stir the pot but I'm just tired of being quite at this point thus why I added that particular one to the thread. I'll speak as professionally as possible to share what I'm seeing to anyone that ask to try and keep a cool line of communication but I'm just about fed up. Here is my brand me JP Prem that I waited 6 months for.
If I'm just being to picky, let me know your thoughts as it could just be my expectations. I can deal with a lot and feel like I have a lot of patience with minor defects but I'd much rather have a pooled PF or even wood graining than the warp PF since it does indeed make the game play different.
***Edited as this isn't really directed at anyone specifically. I just quoted what I did to maintain the train of thought on the warp PF conversation.***

That sucks man! I just checked mine since it was from the same batch as yours and mine is flat. My playfield has a 5/14 date on it.

Quoted from gblack:

Do you have slightly raised inserts? Can you feel them at all running over them with your finger?

Very slight on some of them because the clear is thin. I've had WPC and SAM Stern games that were this way as well and it never became an issue.

I don't think any playfield Stern sends you is going to be 100% perfect. If it were me and I was going to spend the time to do a playfield swap id send the playfield out to Neo or Kruzman to re clear before putting in the effort. The result will be much nicer than anything Stern is putting out.

Simpsons Pinball Party had an ink blotch in the middle of most of the playfields. Having high resolution super clear printing is a fairly recent development at Stern. Even my ACDC is pixelated as hell.

I'd be curious to see how many people in this thread that were swearing off Stern games because of playfield issues are now "all in" on Avengers IQ? Buy, Buy, Buy!!!

Quoted from PinB:

Here are pictures from the GNR on location at Helicon Brewing in Pittsburgh.
There is pooling/bubbling evident on at least half a dozen of the posts (see pics), but I didn't see any chipping yet.
Please note that this particular machine was one of the first to go on location immediately after launch & has been played A LOT.

I wonder if that game has a playfield from Summer 2019? I'd be interested to see the manufacture date of both the game and the playfield on this one. Seems reminiscent of the problems that occurred last year that have since been mostly remedied.
