Not a thread I wanted to be a part of but I looked over our Star Trek Pro Vault HUO bought late January less than 800 plays and we have pooling or whatever you want to call it around several posts and chip at the entrance of the Vengeance.
This has had a Playfield Protector and Lexan washers since day one. Several washers under metal post have sunk deep into the clear also.
Not going to stop playing it and I doubt there is anything that can be done now 8 months after purchase.

Quoted from epthegeek:

Seriously need to change the trend of calling it ‘pooling’, it didn’t flow anywhere. Wrinkling is more apt. Or bunching, even. Calling it pooling gives a misleading impression of what’s actually happening.

Great TWIP Podcast this morning with the guys from Poor Man's Pinball Podcast. They have a great discussion about clear coats with Drew who is in the commercial chemical coating industry. Drew said they call it BLISTERING in the industry.

Quoted from Buthamburg:

Hello to all
This is Leon and Peter from Buthamburg.
We are chimming in here because we were mentioned in a post a page back.
Yes, we have had a ghosting problem with 8 Terminator 2 Playfields.
The paint shop got mixed up while applying primer. 8 boards were missed.
On these 8 boards the clear coat could not hold to the plastic inserts.
Because of this playfield clear coating problem going arround we have decided to test
our clear coat and paints to an extreme. 1 Small stripe of blue art didnt hold up, but
under these extreme cercumstances its nothing. The parts flying arround while hammering,
that is hardend glue sticking to the hammer, not clear coat.
Here we are showing an extreme Test. We are fastening a Star Post way over its limit, so tight that it compressis the first wood funier. No chipping on clear coat. We have decided to show how strong a clear coat can be. Enjoy the distruction.....

That was not enough yet, lets cut up the clear coat and give it a good pull.
Then I think we should try and hammer the hell out of it, let see what happens. We are going to clean our hammer, its full of glue from gluing inserts. I guess we are going to see dimpling now.

The pictures below are showing what is the left over of the Star Post. The second picture is showing the insert and the clear coat after the hammer attack. No sign of Ghosting, the insert is cracked in serveral places. Bad Hammer dimplings in the wood, no clear coat chipping.

I'm so glad my next NIB game will be my fully restored F14 with one of these playfields

I'm focusing on restores of my current games. My Comet Won Best in Show with a Hardtop, our Totan was just finished with a CPR Gold Playfield heck I'm doing a playfield swap on a Shaq Attaq right now. No more NIB for me but I will keep supporting pinball in the wild on location but this is not the stuff I want at home sorry. If I open a arcade I might deal with it but can't see spending money on these type of clear issues.

Quoted from Spyderturbo007:

I've seen countless people complain that their machine is chipping and cracking, but I've seen just a few that have said they have contacted their distributor? Am I the only one that immediately reached out to their distributor?

My Star Trek Pro Vault was purchased late January HUO with a playfield protector since day one. I sent my distributor pics of all the posts blistering and 2 areas that have chipped to the wood. Only 800 plays.
This was his response.

Alberto

There is nothing that can be done about it, as it is a common thing and it is out of warranty.

I have yet to even get a second response from my distributor especially since I asked about trying to get a spare playfield.
I also emailed Stern last week and nothing from them either.
I don't want to get nasty with my distributor but I would at least like my issue reported and at least given the chance to buy the spare playfield with my issue documented but I'm not getting replies the normal ways so phone calls will start tomorrow.

While in Jacksonville this weekend we stopped at Keg N Coin and noticed the BLISTERING around the posts on there Willy Wonka SE and it just sucks I'm sure it will be worse the next time I stop in there. The right side posts was so deap in the clear it looked like a beed of hot glue was around it.

Quoted from PokerJake:

I'd email JJP and not Stern.

Sorry that wasn't clear those pics are just a random game in the wild this past weekend I saw. My issue is with a Stern Star Trek Pro Vault from late January with Blistering and chipping issues
