Quoted from RCIV:Did you have a conversation with Stern about it and have they offered a solution?
Not my game. My friend contacted Stern. Waiting to hear.
These are pictures from my recently purchase Elvira’s HOH. I noticed what appeared to be some small scratches near the middle of the playfield early on (10-15 plays in). It isnt as noticeable in darker light but yesterday in better light I took some pictures which I’m posting here (this game has about 60-70 plays so far).
Is this normal or a clear coat imperfection? I haven’t purchased many NIB games and not sure if this is me nitpicking or something I should be concerned about long term and report to my distributor and Stern. There appear to be small scratch trails from the middle area which you should be able to see if you enlarge the pictures a bit.
Any insight is appreciated.

Did you use the balls provided from Stern? Because they’re pretty much garbage and should be replaced before game 1.
Quoted from Roostking:Friends first run LE GNR has some minor chipping around the bumper posts. Is JJP still offering the washer kit for these( i think they were previously)?

Check your balls....for scratches...
Quoted from cpr9999:Check your balls....for scratches...
They were the brand new balls that came with the game. Is it definitely a ball issue? Is a bad balk going to do that in 10-15 plays?
So if it is a ball issue, I did replace them with some other new balls once I noticed. Seems it hasn't been any better. Is this case strictly of bad balls or crappy, unset clearcoat?

thechakapakuni requests that you inspect your balls, and has provided an informative instructional video several posts above should you need visual illustration of the process.

Clean and wax Playfield then install new balls and done. Spinning balls can scratch Playfields nothing new otherwise. Most any Playfield will do this in the right light.
Quoted from Utesichiban:So what balls are you guys ordering these days and arent't going to have problems? Marco?
I like Ballbaron.com

They were and I got one, but a very recent post in the owners thread states that they are no longer sending them out due to “supply issues”.

Stern balls are fine if you give them a good polish first. Aside from blings they are same quality grade as any other regular pinballs you purchase from pinball stores.

Supply issue for washers?
Send someone to Home Depot
Quoted from John1210:Stern balls are fine if you give them a good polish first.
Are they though? Maybe I never looked hard enough, but I've never seen balls used by B/W, DE, GTB, JJP or any other MFG look like a disco ball or have a chunk missing. And these are from newer titles.
Quoted from Jaybird815:Did you use the balls provided from Stern? Because they’re pretty much garbage and should be replaced before game 1.
Exactly. And we pay over $14,000 in Australia for an LE and you still get SHIT balls!!!
You guys know there was a bad batch of balls about 1 to 2 years ago? Stern probably bought some of the bad balls. Unless they are sitting on a large supply of old balls it’s probably not an issue with new games now. I have the stock balls in my SW Pro that was made March 2021 and the balls are fine after 400 plays.

There was, about the same time as IM release. I would always buy blings etc before getting a new game... now I dont bother. I have stock balls in sw comic and led zep. A friend came over and thought I'd put blings in both. This idea that the stock balls are crap is all in people's heads so they go and spend another $30 on balls. That said I think blings or ninjas are of course on another level and if you don't have magnets in the game then its not a complete waste if you like em nice and shiny.
Quoted from psexton:My May LE build does not have the washers or longer posts.
When I created a ticket with JJP to get them, this was their response:
Do to supply issues we are unable to send out washers or longer posts.
JJP does not recommend altering your playfield.
If you feel you need to add these items,
Pinball Life and Marco Specialties have the information and can get you what you need.
This is complete bullshit. Have JJP actually lost their minds? Their Playfields are without exception complete crap, they make no effort to fix them, and now they are not recommending even trying to prevent them falling apart.
From now on I think I’m going to be happy with Stern and Spooky. It’s a shame because I like JJP games, but buying a $15 - 20k game (aud) and then being treated like that?!?!?
Unbelievable.

It is BS. We know at some point in May that JJP started shipping games with longer posts + black washers + nylon nuts we don't know when in May. Some games built in May likely still went out without the fix kit installed the factory.

Agreed. GnR LE was my first JJP, pooling and cracking around posts with fewer than 200 games (I think 170ish) and JJP said they would send washers two months ago. Asked Barry where they were, he said he would check ONE MONTH AGO. They don’t even bother getting back to customers at all. Nothing. My Deadpool LE has almost 3000 games on it and the playfield looks like glass. I am seriously going to pre-order any/all future Spooky or Stern machines that have themes I love, I’m torn on JJP, they make amazing games but give no shits about quality or customer service from their response. If they just cared, just responded, took a few minutes to source plastic washers like all the places selling them to us, I would not be so conflicted.
Quoted from PanzerFreak:fix kit
You mean Band Aid kit? A "fix" would be new printer with better art adherence, no art under posts and clear that doesn't pool.

Nobody that has added the washers as preventative maintenance has had a playfield issue. To me that is a fix

Not sure we can declare this as a fix for at least a while, the artwork separating from the playfield is particularly troubling on GnR, doesn't that then mean you could not strip and re-clear these without problems?

We won’t have that answer for a very long time

It sure would be. The latest GNR builds don't seem to be experiencing any playfield issues. Seeing multiple reports of owners with 250+ plays on latest builds with no issues.
I'm getting my GNR LE this week, it was likely built within the past two weeks. I feel good about having delayed my order a couple times. It's still BS how owners of existing games have been treated with just a band aid kit instead of at least a replacement playfield.

When you get it, post the build date
Hi guys. Has anyone used the hot iron technique to flatten pooling under a guide rail before applying Mylar and a washer? If so, how did you get on? Was it easy enough to do? Also, what size washer did you use?
Quoted from Huggers:Hi guys. Has anyone used the hot iron technique to flatten pooling under a guide rail before applying Mylar and a washer? If so, how did you get on? Was it easy enough to do? Also, what size washer did you use?
I haven't done it, but the word is, be careful with the heat as the hot iron tool has no temp control and it can get too hot. One guy used a small metal measuring cup to do it. See post #192 in this thread..
Quoted from MikeSinMD:Just curious. Has there been any reports of play field issues with the latest run of iron maiden?
Well. I haven't heard of any issues with Stern's lately. Some warped pfs in the last LZ run, and some ball guides digging into pfs from being pushed down too tight. But nothing like the cc or insert ssues we saw in the past.
Quoted from MikeSinMD:Just curious. Has there been any reports of play field issues with the latest run of iron maiden?
I had to iron some pooled clear flat from around some ball guides on my Iron Maiden Premium (produced September 10th 2020), and then I spaced the ball guides up with some small washers so they wouldn't dig in again. Other than that, all the posts have been fine. Great game in any form, so worth the effort IMO.
Just picked up used Iron Maiden pro and has same amount of Pooling posts as my Gnrce, like wtf ! Damn amateur playfield coating people
Well aren’t you lucky if in 6 months none of your posts are pooling
Quoted from JellyNeck:6 months without a post
Quoted from Yelobird:Doubt this will help but an offer..... IF you have the replacement playfield And your not in an emergency timeframe I would be willing to help. I travel to MN often (St Paul) so I would be willing to pick it up on my way and do the swap for you and return it on my next journey north. Think #Kingpin would vouch for me that I wouldn't steal it lol. Hate to see someone hate the hobby but respect not everyone has the ability to do some tasks. Let me know not a favor just an offer and no cost of coarse just helping the hobby. PM me if I can assist.
This guy really deserves an award for his pooling "iron fix" and his kindness...there's still hope in human genre.Thank you.
Quoted from CoachBacca:Newb here and I am trying to take good care of my game so I wanted to check and see if this was anything serious, if I need to do anything to prevent further issues, or if it is just something normal but in a bad spot. This is after only 191 games.[quoted image]
Looks like a chip from a screw going too far from the bottom. Dab a drop of 'hard as nails' nail polish if you are worried about it.

If you are talking about that spot near the tip of the flipper, that is an alignment hole that is supposed to be there. I'm not seeing anything else, but the pic is a little grainy.
That's a flipper alignment dimple. If you look in front the other flipper you'll see a (hopefully) normal one that indents the wood, but doesn't crack. Looks like the clearcoat didn't hold up to the pants presser.

So this is normal and nothing to be overly concerned about or will it get bigger if I don’t do something to it?
