Quoted from RC_like_the_cola:

That is the exact place that mine is damaged. My replacement populated playfield. It is gorgeous everywhere else, but that rail is dug into the the playfield. Took 14 months to get the replacement. If they would pay careful attention to the known problem spots, this could be avoided.

I raised that guardrail on day one with a fiber washer I knew that would be an issue just looking at it

This should not be something a new owner should need to do, ever.

You are correct, but until Stern removes the art from underneath the spade bolt portions of the ball guides (like they did on the posts), we're on our own.

Was yours dug in? I'm worried the act of raising it will damaged the art. Right now, mine is not damaged, but you see a visible ripple. I know for certain, I won't be getting a second populated PF.

Agreed, but before I launch a ball on a new game, I survey the hell out of it and look for problem issue areas and apply preventative maintenance where I can. Granted, shouldn't have to, but I'm not going to confuse my desired with actual reality and pretend that the games have have been QC'd 100%, they just aren't, they get close but I temper my expectations.

It was pressing firmly into the playfield, when I released the bolt tension, the guardrail actually sprung back into it's correct shape... I mean it was Really torqued down... It has some scratching already without a ball being played, I Novus2'ed it and waxed and buffed to a gloss... So I raised it, put a strip of mylar down ... Hasn't been a problem and the raptor tower shoots like butter with the washer.

Mine JP premium is the same. No word from Stern. Got ghosted on this one.

I would take the rail off and put some washers around the rail posts to lift it off the PF (gently) before the problem gets worse.

Same thing happened on my brand new DP, I had lifted the right ramp rail before playing ball one based on warnings in the owner's thread, but didn't do the left side inner loop rail until >100 games were played. The rail had dug into the wood and lifted the paint and clear in one section.

I pushed it down and laid mylar over the area, added washers to the rail. I don't expect anymore issues and fortunately it's not really visible.

Makes me feel a little better about trying to raise it and add a washer. This thing is dug in. I'll try to post a pic later.

Here's my damage. Getting this rail up looks pretty involved. Doesn't look terrible but you can feel a ridge with your fingernail.

You don’t need to take the rail off. All you really need to do is loosen the nut under the playfield holding down the end of the rail. Then if you snip a wedge out of a fiber washer you can just pry the end of the rail up a little bit and use the gap you cut in the washer to slide it under the rail and around the screw. Then just retighten the nut (but not too much).

Christ I can only imagine what the condition of the balls is after hitting this straight on numerous times. I just see them gouged and nicked grinding all over the field during play. Not a smart design at all and should have a rubber sleeved post at the end of it.

This is definitely a design flaw. The game is very cool overall but there's a few things that make me wonder if they called pencils down before they were quite done.

Well, I was hoping to take it out, use Yelobird's iron method to smooth down the ripple, then mylar, then put a washer and reinstall lol.

I’ve had the game over a year and the balls in mine haven’t worn any faster than in my other games.

Have a chance to pick up a nib gnr standard today. Want it bad, but I'm not a fan of gambling. How bad of a gamble is it with the se?

Tough question. Theres plenty of people with issues who don't post about them. There's many people with issues who do post. No way to get true odds. If it happens to you it'll feel like 100%

I’d say you’re almost certain to have some minor pooling. I don’t think you need to worry about chipping etc for the most part

If possible get the distributor to open it up so you can inspect it first. Yes, this is what it's come to.

"Sight-unseen" purchases should be limited to products that are:

A) Literally identical in every box.

or

B) Have a no-questions asked return policy.

as now people get their AIQ at home and played few hundred games, can someone tell me about AIQ playfield quality? Dimples or whatever?
Thanks

The rail above this one is digging in as well. I'm gonna do the work and disassemble before playing more. I'll try to smooth the art, add mylar and put washers on the rail posts. Ugh.

Happy to report that I got a Wonka LE yesterday and there is no pooling at all. Build date was Oct 9, 2019.
I hope we get past this pooling / chipping issue soon. I would lose my mind if a new game chipped.
Anyhow, here is one thumbs up for a lovely Wonka playfield! I expect that I will be just as lucky on my GnR someday. We shouldn't have to be lucky though, should we?

I’m happy to report that I finally got my jjpotc replacement playfield. I had some minor chipping around posts that was actually hidden under the posts that I found while installing cliffys. They covered it and I’m pleased.

What size fibre washers are people using under guides?

#7129 3 years ago
Quoted from J85M:

What size fibre washers are people using under guides?

1/4" I.D. x 3/8" O.D. x .032" thick worked great on my Iron Maiden and Batman 66. The #10 I.D. x 3/8" O.D. x .032" thick also worked when I ran out of the 1/4" I.D. size, but they were a little tighter on the spade bolts that secure the ball guides.

Awesome thanks! I’ve only got very slight pooling under my ant man guide from being over tightened, I’ve loosened it slightly but will add a washer.

Completely insane that they are sending games out like this. They know yours will likely have an issue, so they slap a bandaid on it and ship it out. Unreal.

This does not look good, could be a trick of the light though...

Can't see anything. Is there pooling?

#7139 3 years ago

No. In person it looks perfect. Put readers on turned on the flashlight and inspected. Wax was drying while I took pics, might be that.

#7140 3 years ago

Maybe if that photo was blown up another 1000% we could see more distortion. Pretty useless exercise blowing up a photo like that.

Buy a microscope and look at little stuff at home, bugs, leaves, rocks whatever. Searching a users posts and blowing them up into oblivion does nothing.

I haven’t been following if Stranger Things has had issues vs the most recent released pins.
Any input here?

Nobody bought one, so nobody knows! JK, I know at least one was sold to Tilt studios in Az.

I hadnt watched the show, so I could not get into much to begin with. Im not really one to pick up on rules quickly, so its kinda unfair for me to really judge a game I have played about 5 or 6 times. But yea, it doesnt get my first set of quarters, thats for sure.

Only way to know for sure is look under the washer after a month or so playing.

How come none of my older games need plastic washers to temporarily keep the playfield from going to shit? Could it be because they are long out of warranty now?

#7150 3 years ago

127 plays and it's already down to wood. Tried to glue but to brittle. Painted it black and clear coated it. Same thing around Thor. There is no "Stern Lottery", only "Stern Inevitably".
