Nice try. I'm actually at a Stones concert right now.

And u choose to spend your time on here 24/7

Take a break. Convert some of those rajun Cajuns down there. Good luck with that

    Quoted from cait001:

I have a funny feeling that things are going to change for "American football" in the next decade or so with all the new research on concussions and CTE.

Lol. I guess you didn’t see the head to head collisions in that game!

Soccer and head trauma far outweigh football

But then most people don’t really care about it. It’s just a way for people of that mindset to hop on the bus and scream “F trump” and the USA

    #103 4 years ago

Iceman telling me I post here too much, spend too much time here, and need to "take a break?"

    Quoted from iceman44:

And common sense real people have to point out the non stop blatant hypocrisy and stupidity

If I want to fight with idiots I’ll do it here, not on vacation.

Guys like Ice have this ridiculous fantasy that people who don't agree with their politics get off a plane, and immediately try to "convert" everybody around them. This isn't surprising coming from a Texan, as Texans can't go 2 seconds without telling everybody around them they are from Texas.

I'm not going to New Orleans to pick fights with locals. I'm going for vacation. I'm going to have fun. I'm going to eat and drink and show my babe an awesome city she's never been to, meet a bunch of my friends, and cap it off with a Stones concert.

Not sure how you do vacation but you might be doing it wrong.

    #104 4 years ago

And let’s do the countdown now

How many complaints will the whiners make and how long will it take

And I’ll be the only one because free speech doesn’t apply to a certain group

Have fun Levi! New Orleans is a great party city

i completely agree that CTE in soccer should be looked into. Why wouldn’t you want to protect players?

What this has to do with American football or toxic masculinity is not entirely clear and likely won’t be made clear by the time I’m at the Stones concert.

    #108 4 years ago

I figured I should give it a go and watched the match. Figures that I fell asleep for a few minutes and missed the only real goal of the match.
What a dreadfully boring sport to watch. Thankfully there was a real goal scored. Pretty lame that a game can be won by a stupid penalty kick.
I generally appreciate most pro sports, but soccer...? Eh. I feel like if I went to the local park and watched kids play, it would be just about the same level of excitement.

    #109 4 years ago
    Quoted from CrazyLevi:

Yes we know all about your son the football star.
Seems to be you should be concerned about protecting his brain, rather than...whatever it is you are trying to say. I really don't get your point, except that typing "toxic masculinity" in quotes is fun for some reason even when completely irrelevant?
If I had a kid playing football beyond high school, I'd want to convince myself it's safe too, despite the tons and tons of evidence showing CTE is real and football is dangerous, even in high school and college. But I guess it just feels better to type "toxic masculinity?" repeatedly than to think about it.
Also...if soccer causes more brain damage, isn't it actually manlier than football and your son is playing a sissy sport? I'm just really confused and having a hard time following your train of thought. But then again I played high school football maybe it's just the CTE settling in.

Just what I’ve come to expect from the childish New Yorker...a need to reflexively share his angry libtard lunacy, unprovoked personal attacks masquerading as humor and constantly, just constantly hi jacking someone else’s thread...
His need to be in the spotlight is real.
    Basically just NYC incarnate.
You must be in a dark lonely place bro.

Ice, are you aware you’ve made 6,200 more posts on pinside than I have? If so, why are you in the “get off pinside and get a life” business? Doesn’t make a lot of sense to me.

Levi, do a post count for 2019 and 2018 for that matter. I'm dwindling down, ignoring and draining a lot now. Although i'd never ignore you.

I'm actually taking a little lunch break on my computer waiting for next client to show up. A little mental break.

I still think USA stole a penalty kick against France, I doubt it would have changed anything and hell it's fair following the famous (and still talked about) hand of Thierry Henry against Ireland in 2012, but at least now I understand how everytime I speak with an Irish guy I still hear about that hand !

She thinks that she should make the same amount of money as the male soccer players, thats hilarious. I mean yeah shes doing the same thing but womens soccer just isnt nearly as popular.

Its like the WNBA, the NBA gives them like 10 million per year or they couldn't even keep going. None of these people are worth the money technically but the fact is people like LeBron James draws a crowd and people like Rapinoe don't.

Its called capitalism, she needs to learn what that is. Women are paid equally in pretty much everything except sports. She needs to find another career.

When it comes to the award money from the world cup I agree that it should be proportional to the revenue brought in. And in a percentage term the women's world cup doesn't quite bring in 5% of what the men's do, fair enough. But if you want to spout this capitalism idea then guess what? The women's US national team brings in more money than the men's national team. They also perform better than the men do as well. Perhaps you might have missed it but the boys couldn't make it to Russia. So can you explain to me how capitalism answers that question when the women bring in more money for the US than the men do?

    -4
    #134 4 years ago
    Quoted from Wickerman2:

I bet the women's team sends out "Happy Holidays" cards too...commies.
Also: None of this has anything to do with the women using their 1st amendment right to critique the fucking idiot at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave....nooooooooo, has nothing to do with it at all. The "critics" are just too spineless to come out and say they are following dear leaders orders. Sad state of affairs when we can't just say, Great Job Team USA and leave it. What's next "Lock Them Up!" chants for crying out loud?
Being "Patriotic" is honoring and upholding the Constitution, not blindly following a person or how you hold a flag etc.

Huh? Are you reasoning that people aren’t excited about the win because of the disrespect shown by a few players? Or sarcasm..

It is a sad state of affairs that the women’s team put themselves in this situation by commenting on things that had nothing to do with soccer. They lived in a country that raised and molded them- because it takes a village- into champions. To thank those people, a few of them decide to speak out against the president that country elected, then state they are ashamed to represent this country because our police force don’t know what they are doing, and then proceed to disrespect an invitation to the most honored building in the USA. They didn’t play or act perfectly but our police and president must be? I don’t understand what we have to celebrate. They won for themselves, I felt nothing..

For all those people complaining about soccer, did you watch the champions league semifinals second legs this year? Two of the best games in all of sports, ever. If you don’t get it, you don’t get it..

And the “real” football is Aussie rules football.

    #135 4 years ago

I think people in the United States could care less about soccer.

It only gets brought up when the World Cup comes around, and if we weren't playing in it, it probably wouldnt even be talked about.

Where was all this interest at the start of the season...whenever that was. Just my 2 cents....

    #136 4 years ago
    Quoted from timab2000:

I think people in the United States could care less about soccer.

About as much as they care about baseball I think, but soccer is probably trending up unlike baseball

    #137 4 years ago

Congratulations to the US team- very well played, literally.

And of course, it's great to see football continue to take over the world

Personally, I like the concept of 'mob football' from medieval England, which "would be played between neighbouring towns and villages, involving an unlimited number of players on opposing teams who would clash en masse, struggling to move an item, such as inflated animal's bladder to particular geographical points, such as their opponents' church, with play taking place in the open space between neighbouring parishes. The game was played primarily during significant religious festivals, such as Shrovetide, Christmas, or Easter, and Shrovetide games have survived into the modern era in a number of English towns".

It's sad that this gets so much attention. When a billionaire and a millionaire priest are arrested for child sex trafficking. But instead the media and everyone wants to talk about a stupid game and people's actions relating to the game. When it seems like the number one sport in America is fucking over the next guy and children I guess.

Well Buzz, its honestly a F ed up world we live in because of the above. It's disgusting. The penalty isn't harsh enough for these sub humans.

As for the game, the meaningless 72 hours of attention will be over soon and nothing will change.

You couldn’t be more wrong Ice. I mean I think. I don’t really get were you are trying to say.

Decades of public policy made “change.” Decades of colleges being regulated to invest in their women’s sports programs equally made “change.” Decades of raising women’s sports profiles and progressive social values as a whole allowing young girls to realize they could be champion athletes made “change.” The us women’s soccer dynasty didn’t just happen overnight, it’s the result of decades of change. My niece is a prospect to get a nice college scholarship because she’s an excellent swimmer - that’s change too. 50 years ago that might have gone to another linebacker.

So to assume that this latest win results in “nothing” is pretty short sighted. If you mean the immediate Issue of the huge gender pay inequality at FIFA, we’ll you are probably wrong about that too.

Things change dude. Nothing to be afraid of.

Like I said, I’d love to talk to 30 years ago Ice and tell him smoking in bars is now illegal and gay marriage and weed aren’t. Would he have believed it?!

I have a curious question I cant seem to get a straight answer,

The roughly 3 Million people in the country that dont stand for the anthem, or hang a flag, say the pledge, or show any respect under their
religious freedom rights, are they just as unpatriotic, deemed un-American, and equally subject to wrath?
