I've had both and creature by a mile.

Congo has some problems.

The theme sucks. Sound sucks. Too many video modes suck. The under playfield ape game REALLY sucks (it's incredibly easy and stupid), and the software ain't great. Artwork is all around ugly. Beyond that it's a total peach.

Creature looks and plays much, much better and the theme and execution is way awesome. It's a blast to play and much more fun than Congo on my opinion.

I'm baffled why Congo has grown so much in stature (and price) over the past 5 years but in my opinion everyone got this one right the first time around when it was an afterthought with little resale value.

I've never understood the "only 2 ball multiball" complaint for creature.

That's kind of the point and how it was designed. It works as is.

Cyclone is great and it has a 1 ball multiball. There's plenty of balls flying around in modern pinball machines, they don't all need 6 ball multis with endless ball saves.

Wow, I couldn't disagree more. Not that Congo is a great movie - it's not. But the movie gives you the context for everything that happens in the game. I didn't even know one of the lead voices in the game was a black actor (Ernie Hudson) until I watched the movie. "Shoot the Satellite!" takes on more meaning too.

I finally broke down and rented Shadow after I'd had the game for a while.

The context didn't help me enjoy the game any more and I had to sit through (half of) a terrible movie.

Sometimes you don't really need context or meaning.

Quoted from Blackbeard:

This is a pretty even vote here..
Gotta remember the amount of Creech's produced compared to Congos.
I'd think if there was an even amount of both, Congo would be completely owning this poll.

That makes very little sense and is completely irrelevant.

Let's try an AFM vs. Firepower poll and see who wins.

Quoted from Blackbeard:

That's just as subjective as this thread is.
I wouldn't sell my congo for under $4k and I wouldn't buy a creech for over 3k.
To each his own.

Right...but you've decided to single out production #s as the one reason this unscientific poll is close. That's a pretty subjective assessment.

I think it's fair to assume that most people here have played both...and a large number didn't run into either on location.

Amongst a relatively small group of enthusiasts like this the production number of these machines is irrelevant. It's not like COngo is particularly hard to find and play if you are in the hobby. It's not Kingpin. 2000 is still a healthy production number. They made 2,000 Jackbots and I've run into plenty on location, and I've probably owned 10 of them.

Hey, they made 5X as many T2s as they did AFMs.

Yet I wonder how that poll would go...

I am guessing a lot of Congos got parted out to save AFMs and MMs back when the game was worthless, which may explain why we don't see 'em as much.

Yeah I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around Congo = timeless and Cftbl = Jump the Shark.

I Know it's impossible for an opinion to be wrong, but that opinion is wrong.

Quoted from swampfire:

If Creature is so timeless, why hasn't it been remade in 61 years?

The 50s cars, music, drive ins, and the Creature are timeless, which is exactly why they made it into a pinball machine 40 years later.

I have a hunch we won't be seeing many Congo-themed anything in the 2030s.

Sorry dude winks or not this an argument you can't win.

Quoted from silver_spinner:

each of those games take a different skill set when playing.
creature you are not cradling balls for multiball, congo you are.

Yer not?

It's nice to cradle the ball on the left while taking shots at the multiplier ramp with the right flipper.

Especially cause when you miss with the right you can then take the jackpot shot.
