Another poll. Awesome!

#2 12 years ago

Judge Dredd.

#4 12 years ago

Congo by a landslide for me, never could get into JD.

#5 12 years ago

funny, i was between those 2 a few months ago. and even made a poll just like you, but in other forum.
i end up buying Congo and i am really happy with it.
I think Congo is more fun and JD has way too much stuff on the pf. JD's art is way better, but in the end a better gameplay wins.

you can check the responses i had here:

Congo is a lot more fun. Both are Tredeau games. Judge dredd has a feeling of trying to run in water. The game feels like its working against you.

JD for sure. It needs the prototype Deadworld lock to play properly. It is sad that WMS had little choice but to drop that feature to avoid potential reliability issues on location. Not much of an issue for home use. Luckily the proto ROM images were salvaged from a machine being scrapped in Europe a number of years ago.
Often misunderstood theme, associated with a bad movie though it is actually based on a science fiction crime parody.

Much better artwork than Congo too.

Sorry I dont get JD. CONGO.

Congo.

JD ftw!

Amy wants a banana...

#11 12 years ago

I like them both for different reasons.

Congo though

#12 12 years ago

Congo with a (deserved) 20 point lead.

So why is JD rated higher than Congo on the Top 100?

#13 12 years ago

I own both games and would part with JD first before Congo if i really had to but for now both are keepers.

#14 12 years ago

I own Congo and have somewhat limited time on JD, but I would say Congo is by far the more fun game to play.

#15 12 years ago

Definitely Congo. Might not be the best to look at, but the game play is great. Also, one of the most satifying shots in pinball when you hit the volcano ramp.

Completely agree with that. Very satisfying shot.

Played Congo for the first time at MGC. F U N.

So why is JD rated higher than Congo on the Top 100?

Because it's a better game.

Congo's great too though; very underrated titles.

I don't get why people think the deadworld mod is that great. It's a destructive change that eliminates the game's ability to be used as a traditional coin-op game. And I don't see how it adds any extra playability, except make the game slightly easier because the multi-ball is staggered, otherwise no big deal. Or am I missing something?

I like the shots on Congo better and prefer it over JD myself.

Congo is rated 1/4 point higher in game design but JD beats it by 3/4 of a point in the art department. Other categories are virtually ties but Sound/Music edge also favors JD.

I guess the answer is basically JD is better looking.

The Deadworld lock does stagger ball delivery for multiball. I think it is necessary otherwise most players will drain 3 or 4 balls without any scoring at all. Also, it has a nice visual effect and actually gives purpose to all that stuff in the upper left corner of the playfield. Why would you want a virtual loch when there's all that hardware which can provide an actal lock?

You're correct. It makes the game easier. Not essential my any means.

This is a really tough one. One thing for certain, John Trudeau can make one heckofa playfield design.

I'm going with Congo, by a hair, over JD.

I intentionally drain them. Too many balls get in the way.

Gotta go with Congo, way underated in my book. except for the ugly back glass yuck!

Thanks Dave, that is a good analysis of the ratings.
