Quoted from BozoTheClown:

I installed something like 4 fire bulbs in mine and it looks amazing.

I did a light strip and a couple fire bulbs also which helped a lot to bring it to life. I believe Comet sold those, their matrix system is plug and play, very easy

A shaker would be cool for the volcano. Never tried to fit one but that game might be worth it

I so much love my Congo, it is a forever game

Joined the club the other week. Only played a few times on location prior, it was fun then and it's even more fun in the home.

Anyone have any parts they never installed on theirs that they would sell? Looking to eventually pick up the following to install when I shop it out:

- Plastic protectors (game came with full NOS plastic set).
- Alt translite
- Sideart blades (I like the modified JP jungle set that others have used)
- Ramps (mine function fine, but could be shinier)
- Target/flipper decals
- Any mods from Modfather

Congratulations. I love Congo and start my mornings with it everyday. Congo and coffee. I could start with any machine as i have over 20 but Congo starts my day.. I will check for unused and extras for it.

When is the upkick that is used for the mine supposed to kick to the Amy ramp. Is it only after spelling AMY?

Correct, only after you complete the AMY letters will the upkicker kick to AMY to start her mode.

Thanks! Ordered the Retro Refurbs alt trans and a ColorDMD yesterday, after being pleased about fixing all switches and getting a clean test report.

Add a Williams coindoor to my wanted parts list. Would like eventually to swap out the euro door that’s on it now.

Hello fellow Congo owners,
I am a young pinhead but for as long as I can remember Congo was one of my favorite games. Though I never got to play it much I was always drawn to it, possibly for the lower pf. Anyways when I had the opportunity to get one last year I jumped on it. Due to space and other projects holding me back I’ve had to put it in storage. I recently started restoring the game, new side art and playfield protector. Thought I’d share the progress and hopefully inspire some of you to give your Congo some love

Curious, has anyone thought of doing a code revision through proc, like cactus canyon continued, and making the game more of a “mode based” game. Maybe you qualify the modes through collecting enough diamonds or completing gray. Feel it would greatly improve gameplay if you were able to play through scenes of the movie. Would definitely tackle this project if I had the time and knowledge to do it.

#2561 5 months ago

That is some great work there. That look's great. I would be happy if someone to make a code for the shaker with pinsound. Extending the play code would be more than I could hope

Some modes would be such a welcome addition to the game. Qualified by diamonds is good idea. Maybe hippo mania mode after so many Hippos collected.

Anyone ever have the Flasher behind gray gorilla and one connected to it in the back box flash briefly when flippers pressed during a game?

Sometimes led flashers just do that. Are they led and if so I’d convert them back or buy some new comet ones

#2565 5 months ago

Yes I had the same problem, replaced the gorilla flasher and everything worked fine.

Picked up this conversion playfield….it was never installed in a game. Hoping to build it up over the summer…

Possible to remove the chrome rails on a Congo without damaging the side art?

I see it's just one n ail in the front, so was figuring the rest is glued on. My side art is in great shape, but was thinking of blacking out the chrome on the cabinet.

It's double sided tape, but yes it can be removed if you are careful. I replaced mine with brass rails and a lockdown bar.

I was able to successfully replace the side rails on my TZ back in 2015 without damaging the cabinet side art. See the URL below for the input that I received and the final solution.

How!?! Why!? That’s amazing !!!

Thanks, guys. I'll look into some of those rail removal techniques. I had read that entire thread about them but it was pretty focused on putty knifes and already beater cabinets, so thx for links to ones with existing, nice side art.

Looking to buy a Nice Congo. PM
Me if anyone needs/wants to sell one. I’m located in Georgia.

Anyone have a right side decal for the lower playfield? I have an extra left side one if anyone want to trade a right side one for it or I’ll just buy if you have an extra, thanks

Anyone have Pinsound for their Congo? Curious about a review of the sound package — apparently there IS one, but there is no preview available on PinSound's youtube page for what the (new?) mix sounds like.

#2576 4 months ago

What color rubbers is everyone using in their Congo? Also, anyone know which rubber count in the Titan database is most accurate?

I believe mine is using the kit from the Titan db that was intended to match each area of the playfield. Thinking on switching to all black or all green. Have seen some pics with geeen, anyone have one with all black?

I've never played or even seen a Congo but curious if the lower playfield is covered with glass or is that a plastic? Seems really hazy on some games. Not sure if that's lighting or deteriorated plastic.

It's plastic. You can buy new replacements from several places.

An odd question, does the "stop eating my sesame cake" ever appear in any call outs?

I’ve never heard that callout and I’m on the latest version of ROMs.

Not yet. Who’s going to do a proper pinsound rewrite?

This is actually a game I've been working on in preparation of picking one up next month from Gman3. If you aren't familiar with my pinsound work.. Ive done BSD, TS, and JD. All intense and epic scores. For Congo.. I'm going with a Cannibalistic, tribal, jungle, chant type of tonality. Replacing the lighthearted Jingles and monkey noises with something more mean. I will post here when I get further along, but for now here is a video with some pictures of the Congo restoration and a song I'm working on to replace the main play theme.

Let me know what you think so far!

Resto looks great! Music… meh. Gonna be tough be to be better than the factory on this one imo.

The track you hear in the video was sampled from music done by Vince Pontarelli.... AKA... the dude who did Congo's pinball music lol. I've edited, put my own touches, textures, and even some noticeable Congo sfx in it, but not so much that the traces of where it originated from are completely gone.

#2588 4 months ago

I like the music in that video. I’m familiar with your TS track. Will be picking up a pinsound or two this year.

#2589 4 months ago

Luke_Nukem please keep going with your new soundtrack. I would definitely like to Pinsound mine.

I can get where people think the current soundtrack is charming and it has its own qualities. However, there are some interactive noises around the playfield like the diamond chime that sound way too much, to me, like video-poker/slot machine noises, and not hard to imagine why as at the time of Congo, Williams was doing a lot of casino games.

Related, the main theme is kinda repetitive.

For inspiration, the film soundtrack I think would work REALLY well.

Anyway, good news here then with a Pinsound project, and many thanks to you for doing that.

I need to hear that volcano on the pinside shaker. LOL

I appreciate it! I'm looking forward to it. Congo is a fun game and the music on it isn't bad.. It's just a little too friendly for the theme imo.

You can build your own though. I am currently in the process of doing that for my Baywatch.

#2598 3 months ago

Ok I will pay for you to build one as I do not have the skills. I know there are more than a couple of people have talked about it. I believe you could sell a few. Either way take care.

#2599 3 months ago

Just got home tonight with my new Congo. Pretty excited to have it. It's in beautiful condition and came from a another great Pinsider, Iamthelaw.

Going to do a little powder coating with the armor, legs and lock down bar. Should be together and ready to play by next weekend. Thanks John!

Selling a brand new Cliffy 6 piece protector set that I no longer need, comes with the “no hop” in lane guides as well. Paid $94, will let it go for $80 which includes shipping!
