It is a relatively rare game and was apparently not popular back in the day when it came out. I have been told by some that were in the hobby that MANY congos were scrapped for parts.

My rough guess is that only 1600 are still alive today. I also have the general impression that about 50% typically went across the pond, which means there are probably less than 800 Congos in existence in the US.

That means, many pinheads have not even seen a congo and if they have they probably have not been fortunate enough to play a nice one.

Owning a congo is really a special club IMHO.

I never saw one back in the day, and only lately, with the Monkey Madness, have I been seeing them around more. It's a fun little game.

my brain still can't process that i sold my congo! *sigh* i miss it so much!

#12 10 years ago

I'm in.

#13 10 years ago

I was close to buying one last year but it ended up being in too rough shape for me. Didn't overly like it then but them more I play it the more I understand it has many a likable thing in it. Wouldn't mind owning one...although it might get played the less than the others.

#14 10 years ago

It pretty much has the best music of all time!

based on your collection Congo would fit very nicely.

#16 10 years ago

I always joke that the movie was so bad that nobody knows of it >> thus the game is basically an unliscensed theme.

It is a very nice intermediate between quick vs. stop-n-go

#17 10 years ago

if only i had my congo i would of sold it to one you guys!

#18 10 years ago

Love it! I have almost gotten rid of it a few times in the past but I more or less consider it a keeper now, one of my favorite games to play. I would miss it tooo much if I got rid of it.

#19 10 years ago

my left saucer was broken so whenever the ball went in it stayed there for a long long LONG LONG time thus making it the worst flowing game ever!

That's just a switch adjustment sounds like. I think Congo has the best saucers in the business...when they go in there they seem to stay put!

About that VUK at the back of the playfield.... Does the double divertor thing ever send it to the Gorilla or does it always shoot the ball to the ramp? Can't tell if that thing is functional or decorative.

It has a VUK? I thoguht it just had the double ball popper for kicking it to the rollovers or down?

It has a ramp diverter for the different ramps...but nothing is ever send down to monkey ass, that ball is always down there.

Towards the back of the playfield. You can get to it from the upper flipper. Once there, it always seems to direct the ball to the ramp (towards the player), but it looks like it could direct it towards the gorilla at the back left corner.

#24 10 years ago

Ahh I see what you're saying. It diverts the ball to a lock when the lock is lit.
When lock isn't lit it sends the ball back to the upper flipper for loops.

yes, during the amy mode the ball will go around amys arms and come to the upper flipper!

#26 10 years ago

Ah, cool, thanks!

The double diverter normally sends to the pops till you Spell A M Y with the top rollovers, then it starts the AMY mode and kicks backwards to the amy ramp. Another post pops up to hold the ball for a sec and a countdown timer starts where the goal is to get the ball back to amy. This is most easily done with the upper flipper. If you miss, then you still have time to hit the left orbit shot again and it will divert to amy again. Rinse and repeat to keeping getting the ball back to amy. Can score some big points with this mode.

the VUK sends the ball to the bumpers when the amy mode is not running

I find it interesting that you would start a thread called Congo Club-Owner's Only. When you sold yours? You do not own one-so aren't you breaking your own thread rule?-LOL

Clue: pop bumper

Congo is an awesome game. There are only two in New Zealand that people know of. One is in a private collection and another is operated in a cafe nearby my work and it's in terrible shape but still very fun. The stupid op put a regular flipper on the left and a lightning flipper on the right and they're aligned differently. So bizarre to play. Mystery hole often kicks STDM and the pf window is raised so it affects ball travel on the edges. Despite this managed to get 1.6 billion as my high score which I'm pleased with. There's a local guy who has got over 4 billion on it recently which is ridiculous!

I like the way the game progresses naturally rather than being mode-based and all the diverters make the PF layout even more interesting than it looks.

I'm terribly addicted to those ZINJ rollovers! Love the super skill shot.

OK, you don't own the game, you started the 'club' thread, and now you want to bag on it...

sounds like someone is trolling

Shows all the signs of karma hoarding.

#46 10 years ago

no, I'm just saying that the callouts are annoying but the rest of the game is amazing!

#47 10 years ago

The callouts are awesome.

Ugly.

#48 10 years ago

The volcano shot is one of the most satisfying shots in pinball today. Right between the pop bumpers. Amy don't like hippos!

#49 10 years ago

I made the volcano shot on mine with the upper left flipper, it was crazy. Don't know if I will ever see it happen again. This was one my favorite games when it came out (we were fortunate to have 3 on location near my house) and it is still one of my favorite today. We got lucky on one last November in really great shape for a nice price. We took it to the Ohio Pinball show this year and seemed to be enjoyed by many. For a lot of people at the show that was there first time ever seeing or playing the game.
