Congo is a fantastic pin! Very fast game too...probably the fastest WPC-95 game.
Fun game overall with lots of multiball with cool ramps (volcano). The theme sucks (as is just plain odd for people unfamiliar with the movie; no one seems to understand who Amy is), and thats why people either hate it or have never played it. Operators probably passed on them, when it had come out with the new WPC-95 games.
Parts are available for Congo, in particular, replacements for the Gorilla toy. Check to make sure the sound is working, as with other WPC-95 games.
Thanks. I may have to rent the movie to understand the theme. I had to do that with my Addams Family. It is more fun when you have watched the movie.
They did a good job with the voice overs in Congo. I'm not sure if it is Tim Curry doing the voice over work himself. If it is a sound-alike, its one helluva good voice over guy. Same thing with Tim Curry voice in The Shadow.
You will be better off not watching that movie. It is awful. The pin is 1.72 billion times better than the film.
I remember the trailers. They really hyped that movie up to be the next Jurassic Park.
If anything, its fun to watch Tim Curry in Congo. His russian/eastern-europe (?) accent in the movie is deliciously over the top. His smarmy pervert character in The Shadow was also fun. I'm glad Brian Eddy gave Tim's character (Farley Claymore) a big role in The Shadow pinball.
Seeing the adorable Laura Linney in Congo, isn't too shabby either.
I got a chance to play this the other day - its actually a pretty interesting layout and fun to play.
Played it at PAPA13 - was one of the games in Division C - after several attempts it kicked my butt for some reason, so I switched to Pinbot, but I actually liked the layout of it and thought it had some cool shots, like the near impossible volcano shot. If the price is right
I wouldnt mind having one. I never saw the movie - and probably would keep it that way so it doesnt sway my positive view on the game.
Great game, maybe not the best theme, but it has a great layout and flow to it, it was one of the prizes at the last Seattle show, I wish I would have won it
Well they don't want me to look at it tonight so it looks like Saturday. They say they have a lot of people coming to look and want to schedule appointments.
If I recall, in Congo the apes ate meat. Last I checked they were herbivores. Fun game though, we had it in our tournament bank at PAPA. Not too bad of a pin.
