Well Predator and AMH are options it seems and Blondie is in on Predator (don't fret they are getting close and it will be awesome!)
I hope they make at least 1000 LEs. Anything more than 250 is not even really a LE model so why not just make as many as possible and remove the resellers from the equation? At the same time Stern has pretty much already killed the "collector" aspect of the pinball collector market so better off making as many as they can sell.
If they were smart they would do an NON-announced # but limited timed release. Make and sell as many as they can for 30 days. If they only get 200 LE orders then that is all they make. If they get 1000 LE orders then that is all they make.
It works for poster art so why not pinball art?
Quoted from yancy:Because there are still ego-driven collectors who care about owning something they perceive as rare. I agree with you in theory, though.
Funny part is that it is not rare at anything over 250. What was the last <250 LE? TronLE?
If they use the timed-edition model for LEs they will likely sell way more than 800 is my guess while still making the mistaken perception collector happy...
Based on general idea that I am a pretty active pinhead and the relative incidence of me seeing a game I would say 250 marks a good cutoff for a LE actually being somewhat rare.
I have seen lots of STLE and METLE and SCDCLE, quite a few TronLEs, XMLE, AVLE, etc... I have only seen 1 AVAtarLE.
If 2000 of a game is a reaonsable guess at number made for any current Stern then to be LE it needs to be 10% of total run by typical limited edition standards in the art print world.
Either way, a timed release would be a better marketing tool IMHO.
