Hello all,

I purchase my first pin today (JP) and had a quick question regarding a physical piece of equipment attached to the bottom of the cabinet.

I'm not sure exactly what this item is called, but noticed a liquid-like substance on it's left side -- I'm going to do more research, but just wanted to make sure that I wasn't in danger of like a fire by running my machine.

I'm a total pinball-noob so any and all advice is welcome.

Thanks everyone!

It's just the isolation resin.

Thanks Gunske - does this mean the item is faulty in some way or is it fine as is?

It's fine John. Not unusual to find that stuff near the transformer.

Congratulations on your new pin.

Thank you sir! Would you suggest that I leave it as is or should I clean it off?

Leave it.

I could be wrong here, but I always thought finding that residue near transformers was a bad sign. A sign that the transformer was failing or was overheated in the past.

Alot came with it on the frame from manufacturing, its a electronic component looks aren't that important at the factory.
Residue on the cab under the transformer is a bad sign.

Ok makes sense, thanks!

Mitch -- do you mean physically under the transformer on the inside of the Cabinet? or leaked/stained on the exterior of the bottom of the cabinet?

Also -- outta curiosity I googled the part number and it was 'out of stock' a bunch of places -- is there a replacement transformer or third party transformer that is recommended to replace the unit inside the JP??

Is there any other way to know if the transformer is failing?

You'll be fine JohnJN , enjoy your JP!

You know your transformer is failing when the game doesn't start up properly anymore

As said, you good. Unless the windings have shorted transformers rarely go "bad", thats the reason they are tough to find. It's not a common failed part so they didn't make more than they needed for production.

Transformer will be fine. Rarely ever go bad.
