Let me know if I've missed any. I'll edit the list as errors are found and new ones come out. Note that I used the name of the most recent movie whose content is in the pin; a few pins cover more than one. Also note that I didn't split out Pro/Prem/LE models or EM/SS. I'll try to keep up with all the replies.

    1981 Bally Embryo(n)
    1993 Williams STTNG

    #2 8 years ago

    2015 Jersey Jack The Hobbit

    You're asking for it

Tommy isn't reallllly a movie pin either.
    Nor is STTNG

1975 Bally Captain Fantastic (inspired by Tommy)
1975 Bally Wizard! (inspired by Tommy)

"Inspired" stuff would open a lot of doors to confusion

Embryon is based on a movie??

The way I was looking at it was "would this theme exist if not for a movie?" But I'm OK with taking those out of the list.

    Quoted from TheLaw:

    2015 Jersey Jack The Hobbit
    Nor is STTNG

"Star Trek Generations" came out in 1994, same time as STTNG. But I guess you could argue that it was really based on the TV Show - will remove that one too.

    #6 8 years ago

    STNG 93.
Gotta keep it specific or too much stuff gets pulled in. I mean MB are all movie characters, but it's not a movie.
EDIT: Popeye movie came out before Popeye but it isn't aboot the movie etc etc

    #7 8 years ago

I have about 15 movies to watch to complete my list.

    #8 8 years ago
    Quoted from Taygeta:

Embryon is based on a movie??

    Nope. Not even close.

And Indiana Jones is based on the first three Indy movies. Maybe even more of Raiders of the Lost Ark than the second and third movie.

STTNG came out in November 1993. Star Trek Generations came out November 18 1994.

OK - will take Embryon out of the list. But I bet someone at Bally watched the 1976 movie Embryo to get that idea.

Have you even seen Embryo? It doesn't have much to do with Embryon, or Vise Versa.

This is your list so you make it how you want to but there are few inconsistencies I thought I would point out. If you're not doing pins inspired by movies then doesn't that disqualify the whole list? What is the list about then? Pins that were released at the same time as movies? Very few pins came out in conjunction with a movie because development of a pin takes a long time. For example, Batman the pin came out two years after the movie. Indiana Jones is based on 3 movies. The first one came out in 1981 and the last one in 1989.

If it was my list, I would make the list pins based on movie properties. That would put Tommy based pins on the list but disqualify Star Trek Next Gen. I made a list in another thread of every movie based where we were studying ratings. The list isn't perfect because I put Black Hole on the list when it's not related to the movie. Also I forgot about Monster Bash, which isn't directly based on a movie but rather movie properties as evidenced by the Universal logo on the apron. If you're unsure if a pin is based on a movie, check the flyer. A lot of times it will mention a movie.

I meant to eventually include EMs. Sinbad would have been a nice surprise.

My collection has an average TomatoMeter rating of 55...

    Lord of the Rings: 91

It's interesting to me the little rules you have to make if you want to make a list. For example, I looked at every game individually to see if it was based on a specific movie or a set of movies. James Bond 007 looked like to me that it was based on The Spy That Loved Me because the artwork included Jaws and came out at similar times.

    Backglass.jpgBackglass.jpg

    spy_who_loved_me_ver2_xlg.jpgspy_who_loved_me_ver2_xlg.jpg

Then there was Bally's Star Trek which if you look at the art was based on the 1979 movie.

I'll go by your list - I'd rather include pins than leave them out.

    Quoted from SealClubber:

    2001 Space Odyssey

I did think about including Space Station. The space station in the translite looks just like the one in 2001, and there's a black monolith hidden way up in the top right part of the playfield.

Is there a flyer for it? It may tell you if it was officially based on the movie.

    #28 8 years ago

Embryon has nothing to do with this awful, awful movie.

(oops, I see this has already been addressed)

    #31 8 years ago

    Predit... ...never mind.

    #32 8 years ago
    Quoted from SealClubber:

    2001 Space Odyssey

Not based on the movie, and the pin is just "2001". Same can be said for Williams "Music Man", and both were made before 1975.

    #34 8 years ago

    Cool, adding these. Thanks guys!

    #35 8 years ago

Are we sure that Embryon isn't based on some weird 70's porno movie?

Inspired, maybe, but defiantly not the same.
    2001.jpg2001.jpg

    Space station.jpgSpace station.jpg

And both as well as many "Space Wheels" are usually based on Chesley Bonestell designs from the 1950's and 1960's.

    That would be the "brain"

Though she's referred to it by a different word.

Edit: ....of course thats probably my fault because I mentioned to her once that someone on a forum described it as such and now neither of us can unsee it

James Bond takes a lot from Moonraker (1979) as well. Jaws floating toward Bond comes right off the Moonraker poster and the pose of Roger Moore also comes from the same poster (except he's wearing a space suit in the poster). But the game is generally tied into all of the Moore films at the time (maybe even For your Eyes Only which came out a few months later).

Star trek. Well, only the back glass and the plastics look like stuff from the movie. The playfield and cabinet are definately rom the series. Also remember the backglass and plastics came late in the design phase. Remember, this is what the backglass was supposed to be:

Also, no jets in the climax of the film. Only three helicopters, and no World Trade Centre, so it's not the 1976 version either.

Threads like this are only as good as the clarity of the rules stated in the OP to keep order to the responses and minimize "noise".

Is this "inspired by?" "borrowed from?" "licensed?" solid state only? etc...

    fun thread either way...

Nope. Not an official license, and other than the theme, nothing to do with the movie "THE Black Hole" (notice, the pin is called "Black Hole" with no the.)

It should be only licensed pins. Those are the only official movie related pins. BTW, in the original post, EM are not excluded. The only other limitation is that they are pins from 1975 to the present.
