I have a comet with a rotten dog power board and a pinscore display kit. When i press the button on the mpu, code 5 is displayed. Sometimes when I turn on the power the knocker fires, code 7 is displayed, and displays and mpu lamps are dark. locked up. Sometimes everything is good except no sound. Sometimes all good. If i keep first ball in shooter lane with sound running for an hour . . . greatly improves chance of a proper boot up. What should i check? Thanks. Bill.

Update. On Comet, It boots up almost instantly and makes an amusement park cheering sound. As explained, sometimes the sound does not work. When it boots up without making the cheering sound, the start button starts a silent game.

You will probably need to replace the ribbon connector going from the mpu to the sound board.

It was the 4 mhz oscillator.
A silver rectangle shaped component with 4 legs.

Mine had the same symptoms and I did the exact same thing last weekend. Only difference was my "5" code was from the coin door being shut when pushing the button. It needs to be open. "7" code was the crystal oscillator.

Edit- Oh snap! This is about my machine. Haha. lol. Thanks for bringing it back and picking up the part, sir.
