Jimmyhonda, I have two WMS Comet. I am 100% familiar with the game operation, repair, and every part of this model, including the program code. I have owned my two for more than 15 years.
You might consider this next time you offer "advice", Jimmyhonda.
If cmos/nvram is not storing the setup, then it will start with default setup, showing the game number in diag mode.
Turning a machine on with or without cmos/nvram will, in no way, damage the machine.
A short study of the game code will show you an invalid checksum in cmos/nvram will cause a default setup, which is not free play.
