Spider-Man and T2! They are beaters, but I Love Steve Ritchie games. My Deadpool GI needs some too.

Sorry if this isn't the right place to ask, but I'm looking to swap out my incandescents in a playmatic fiesta (em) and a paragon. Both are currently using #47 bulbs. I really want to keep the warm color, but max out on Lumens. I have a CFTBL that is decked out in led and pinstadium and everything looks so dark in comparison. Hoping you guys have a recommendation. I can do funky flat shaped bulbs or pointy bulbs for under the inserts or backglass but would like something normal looking for bulbs on the playfield.

Buy a bunch of the 2smd bulbs in this sale. Frosted caps and warm white color. That will look closest to your incandescent bulbs. Just brighter.

Paragon will need some sort of aftermarket board or other mod if you put them in the controlled lamps though.

These are exactly what I decided to use (frosted 2smd Warm White) for my Stars recently and I fully agree--they're probably the closest match to incandescent color temperature. I compared with their frosted sunlight bulbs which weren't 'cold' in comparison, but not quite as warm in color. I plan on getting more warm whites for the general illumination in a couple other games soon.

Spot on answers from chuckwurt and @frunch. 2SMD frosted warm white are what you want. Here is the link to 25 packs of those, which will be on sale for Black Friday: https://www.cometpinball.com/products/2smd-bulbs-25-packs?variant=12093839147052

If you do inserts for the Paragon, you want the flicker eliminator board (https://www.cometpinball.com/products/bally-stern-flicker-eliminator?variant=12493659832364), which we're sold out of right now, but you can sign up for an email update when they're back in stock

Are the frosted 2SMD warm white also good for general use under inserts? Or is clear better there?

I definitely want to do some LED refits ... but if I need to go over a spreadsheet for every game and try to pick the ideal bulbs for each spot, I will never get started, hah. Hopefully I can get a ton of just one type... or two types, GI and feature lamps... and then supplement with a few oddball colors or whatever for special spots.

Some people try to color match for insert color but you don’t have to, and honestly I think it doesn’t look very good. I used normal warm LEDs for my high speed and “sunlight” white for my Lethal Weapon 3. You still get the same result you have now, just a bit brighter so the inset colors pop better all around. I felt that tone of white suited each table.

Only reason I personally would use a colored led was if I wanted an insert color to show a certain color better.

Unless non ghosting bulbs are needed I put 2smd frost warm white everywhere.

First time replacing bulbs here so I apologize in advance for a newbie question. Do the more seasoned pinball owners just buy a variety of bulbs and keep them in stock. It looks like my machine takes several different types or styles of light bulbs, wedge/bayonet and different volts? Do you do all white or should I buy some colored bulbs too?

My first attempt at getting replacement bulbs was a bust and they didn't work in my machine for some reason. thanks

    #16 2 years ago

Just get a ton of warm white frosted 555 & 47s.
They work in the most applications.
The only time you really colored is if they are visible above the PF. Like in front of ramps or something.

    Quoted from horseflesh:

I've never seen a need to use anything other than frosted.

I buy a ton of both base types. Wedge and bayonet. All warm white. No colors.

Frosted are totally fine. With all of this, it depends on how picky you are. There are some games that have inserts which are close together, and one of them blinks during gameplay…and in those situations, the light from a frosted bulb that blinks can bleed into an adjacent unlit insert. That’s a picky situation where using clear is a small improvement.

    Agree to disagree

So I recently acquired a Pinbot that is still all incandescent. I am thinking to go with cool white for any of the whites in the backbox and above the playfield, since this has mostly dark colors in those areas. I am thinking it will kinda give it that slighlty neon futuristic look that I think would be cool. Thoughts??

I am no stranger to Comet. I few months ago I LED'd my DE Star Wars and it looks great! Really makes the Pinbot look dim.

    #21 2 years ago

I don’t like cool white in any game.

    #22 2 years ago

Hmmm. Might be time to convert the TSPP I acquired a few months ago!

    #23 2 years ago

i use sunlights in everything. clear lens helps inserts to be a tad brighter but frosted works fine too.

Sounds like you're thinking too hard aboot it honestly.

Lol yeah maybe, but in the Pinbot owners thread I ran across several pics of the cool white used and I thought it looked good. One guy swapped from cool white and went to sunlight, and honestly I thought it didn't look as good. I think he must've been thinking too hard about it too

unsurprisingly, I also took this excellent advise last year...absolutely spot on!
My first order from comet and very happy!

ryanwanger I need a full LED kit plus flashers for STTNG. Do you have an LED qty and type breakdown for this game? So i can get the 25 packs and save? Or is it best to just go with the full kit? Would also like to go green for the borg ship, as I’m getting green windows for it.

Go with the 1smd warm frosted white in the GI. For the feature lights, just clean under the inserts and clean the the bulb or replace with another incandescant. It will look close to stock and bright without being over the top bright.

Does the sale include the non ghosting versions or just the regular type?

Our base version of the STTNG kit has 27 different types of bulbs in it. Only two of them are 25 or more. Sale or not, it's always a little cheaper to make your own kit, but it requires a bit of work to figure out what you want. If you were just going to do white bulbs everywhere, and skip non-ghosting, then this would be the cheapest time to buy.

There are 92 wedge bulbs and 51 bayonets in the kit.

I use cool white in all my games. My basement tends to be a bit darker and I have vision problems in general, so I like my games bright and well lit, especially darker games like The Shadow...it helps me track the ball easier. At the end of the day its all personal preference though...try both in there and see what you like best.

Here’s hoping your stock is plentiful this year. Sold out on website is disheartening on frosted 2smd’s.

Maybe some of you selfish types don’t need 50,000 on order!

Any sales on the optomax 25 packs? Love those bulbs.

    #38 2 years ago

Do the retro bulbs by chance fall under "2smd" for sale purposes? I honestly don't know if there's 1 or 2 in there, but they're the majority of what I've bought of the past few years since I've been on an EM kick.

We have done those in the past, but not this year sadly.

No, they are different. We did retros last year, so I think it might be a while before we do them again.

No worries at all. can still grab 2smds for inserts - who doesn't love a nice bright insert?

(Your retro bulbs really are the best though!)

First off, remove all LED flashers and replace with incandescent or the LED ones comet had that are dimmer.

Then replace all LEDs with frosted warm white or cool white 2 smd bulbs. Make sure they are frosted.

I put in Comet sunlight bulbs in my BSD - if you can't decide between warm or cool, they're a nice compromise!
