I think the early stroke winding on my left coil must have died because when I hit the flipper button it flips with no power. I've seen a couple different coil numbers listed as replacements on the 'net. Anybody got suggestions as to which exact coils to use on the Comet flippers?

It could be your EOS too -- broken wire or bad connection through the contacts.

Will check that KenH -- thanks for the suggestion.

Check your flipper button switch also. Make sure it closes properly when you pushing the button.

check switch first, then wiring and if that looks good swap coils around

Ended up being the EOS switch, so I ordered a flipper rebuild kit. Replacing the EOS switches and cabinet flipper switches. Seems I have a new problem now. The flippers are too strong. Despite the fact that I didn't swap out solenoids, a shot up the center Comet ramp sees the ball jumping out near the top almost every time. Tried adjusting the playfield angle to make it more severe but this doesn't seem to remedy the issue. Anybody have any suggestions on what caused this? Is better contact between the new EOS switches providing more power to the coil? I'm starting to think I'm going to need to drop down the coils to a slightly lower power.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

No need to swap coils, just open the gap of the EOS Switches until you have the power you want.

The larger the gap, the weaker the stroke.

Ok..looked at your guide. If I've read it correctly it says that at rest the EOS switch should be closed tightly and when fully actuated it should have an 1/8" gap. Do you mean to say that the EOS gap should be *at least* 1/8" and that I can remedy my over powered flippers by making this gap greater than 1/8" (so the EOS switch effectively starts opening sooner)?

Sorry for any greenhorn questions and thanks much for your help!

Right.

The sooner the coil switches over from the "full power" winding, to the "hold power" winding, the less powerful it will be.

Pinball machines are complex, you will be an expert soon enough.

Thanks again Vid. After tinkering with the gap for a bit I seem to have arrived at a suitable power level for the center Comet shot.
