Hey just wanted to know how many of you guys out there have this Ramp Protector on your machine?
Mine has it, the first pic of a machine in this thread post #5 has it and several other's in this thread.
I was just at the Vegas Pinball Hall of Fame and theirs has it.
There is a Comet listed on the marketplace place that has it and others I've seen listed for sale have it.
To me looks factory maybe a later add because it is not in the Orginal flyer. Mine definitely looks like it's been on since the beginning as the ramp entrance has no cracks or any damage it definitely did its job. My protector covers the word Comet on the ramp but most others seem to have been applied higher maybe adjustments made as they started installing them.

Just wondering if this was a factory add after Orginal production started added later in production.

Pics of mine covering the Comet and Pinball Hall of Fames with decal applied higher

Mine didn't have this piece and I didn't even know about it. I just grabbed one off of ebay and will definitely be adding a light strip there also looks perfect for it.

Just got my Cabinet back from being stenciled, it came out Great. The playfield has a Hardtop installed, almost everything new on the top side, new Freeplay40 cork screw and jump ramp, new posts, plastics, Titan rings, Comet LED's. It's been a project sitting around for almost 3 years time to finish this project, i can't wait to play it. Time to reassemble the cabinet.

Quoted from Malenko:

I had already done the LED thing:
[quoted image]
but I added some post LEDs:
[quoted image]
and swapped all the star posts to clear:
[quoted image]
and I added a trough light:
[quoted image]
and LED strips by the corkscrew, to the left of the skeeball ramp, behind the ducks, and behind the rabbits:

I used vid1900 's technique of aluminum tape behind the ducks
The overall brightness is AMAZING

I got them from Pinball Pimp, great quality stencils.

I'd start with a good parts cleaning. Pull the parts off give everything a good cleaning, use a q-tip inside the coil, i like to use a magic eraser on the plunger, soak the linkage and clean the moving parts, check the coil sleeve if it slides out smoothly and you don't have an extra one just clean that also with a q-tip. Years of use and carbon dust build up can slow everything down, if you have access to a sonic washer toss the whole flipper mech in there. They are cheap also from Harbor Freight.

Finally finished my Comet Restore, turned it on for the first time in 3 years on Wednesday. Thursday morning finished getting all switches adjusted and a little extra lighting installed (another set of post LED's And a strip in the apron) then preceded to wrap it up and take it straight to the Atlanta Southern Fried Gaming Expo SFGE.
It Won Best in Show Restoration award also.
Glad people enjoyed it. Very positive on the Hardtop install also. At the show I picked up an orginal Signed flyer by the late Great Python Angelo and Barry Oursler also to go along with the pin very happy with that.

Question. Did you go with the orange or red instruction card? Been meaning to try to figure out which would look better, thanks.

I went with Orange. Seems a little Peach in the pic but it's a nice orange matches great.

I waxed mine since day 1 mainly because it went straight to a weekend show after I finished it so I don't know if there was a difference but I'm very happy with the way it plays. Smooth, quite and fast I Love It.

I've been using this S100 wax it's a Carnauba Wax with a mix of bees wax and does not leave any residue which is what you don't want mainly in the shooter area creeping it's way around. Very easy to apply and clean up.

Quoted from Patzik:

I got so far in restoring it, and my kids have played it quite some time now.
Was just about to post some pictures and yesterday they called me saying something bad had happened.
I guess the rebuild put some power back into the flippers, and now a piece broke off the center ramp!
I noticed earlier that some of these ramps have a protector, and some don’t. Mine doesn’t and was already thinking of getting one but just could not find it. Now it’s too late...
I guess I can try to glue it back, I am looking for the best glue for this, because you only get one shot, after that the glue remains of the first try will make it impossible. I think the best option I have seen for now that I can get here is acrifix.
Also looking for that ramp protector, but can’t seem to find it. Anyone know where I might be able to get it?
Also freeplay40 will make a new ramp soon I read so this might be an option if all else fails.
Any suggestion are more than welcome, the kids can hardly wait to play it again.[quoted image]

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/best-solvent-to-repair-pinball-ramps-and-plasticsend-of-story

This a great product to use to fix ramps and plastics.

Yes luckily Freeplay40 will be making the center ramp in the near future so that's good.

on the ramp protector i got lucky and mine has it. seems like its up in the air about how these came about either a after market but early mod or a later factor mod. i asked about it a while ago also, seems almost 50/50 on Comets with vs without the protector. Mine has no damage at all so i would assume it's always been on. I will still buy a Freeplay40 ramp just because his ramp will be super clear and a lot stronger.

Quoted from pinballjah:

Could you post a photo of the ramp protector installed. Thanks.

Part of the issue with these installed is there cover the start of the Comet decal on the ramp.

Quoted from Comet_20:

First Pin picked up a Comet two weeks ago so far love the game. And have done a few fixes already.
First I had a light not working found diode was in backwards wonder if this light never worked? looked to have all the same numbers as other diodes just installed backwards flipped it and the light now works.
Also had a burnt TIP122 that i fixed. robbed Q85 to replace Q83 and replaced the coil and all is back to working.
couple of questions
1. where can i get the "1 Million sign" at the back of the cycle ramp mine is competently missing. There is one on Ebay but its missing the housing that covers the bulbs. anyone have a spare that they are willing to part with?
2. anyone ever order the translite form EBay ebay.com link » Williams Comet Pinball Machine Backglass Translite Replacement my backglass seams faded but you tell me does it look too bad?
Thanks for any help !

Welcome to the club Comet is a great pin.

BGResto just got a good one to scan and can reproduce something better than a translite.

Yep the same I have Comet 2smd's and the ghosting isn't that bad.

Reaching out to find another part. Looking for the left flipper return ball guide and whatever parts are needed to install. I assume i can make the standoffs and spacers. Bolts shouldnt be a problem also. My machine was missing every thing in the area.

The metal guides you can get Cliffy and those are upgrades from the original ones.

Hello! I've lurked for awhile and registered to ask a quick question about my comet main ramp sticker (underneath)
Years ago, I bought a new ramp and sticker. Over time, the sticker has fallen off. It's in great shape, no wrinkles-but just no adhesive. What would be a good clear type of adhesive to apply to either the sticker or the ramp to reattach?
Thanks all, especially vid-your guides are great!

Ramp-O-Matic made a quick tutorial and reusing decals.

Seems high, in this Pic this post definitely seems high. can these post go in more?
The center ramp will hit the glass for sure but I don't think my jump ramp does.

Quoted from Atari_The_Jedi:

I think that was it just leave the other post was up a little high compared to this one but so headed to screw them down. I've looked at this thing so much I can't see what's in front of my nose anymore. Still got a couple rollovers not playing nice and the gates and everything just need to be played. But it's coming together Pier One I like is that this was probably considered a parts Machine by most but is now a glimmering shimmering beautiful machine. Don't get me wrong I spend way too many hours and way too many dollars on it

Nice, I was the same way with mine. I couldn't let it just die, mine at least was a complete machine just beat to poo. I did a full cabinet restore and Hardtop and almost everything on top of the playfield is new. It's a classic pin that I still love playing

Quoted from reconsider59:

Unfortunately, this isn't possible—it's not a wire piece. It's a metal ball guide.
The part number is I believe A-10712, and there don't seem to be any available searching on the internet...
If I were you, mfdavis1, I'd reach out to Marcos about possibly recreating them (from listening to podcasts with the folks who run the business, sounds like they're receptive to requests from the community, in terms of sourcing parts).
And in the meantime, find a way to grind and smooth that metal piece so it's not gonna chew up your balls, and will feed correctly during play. If you'd like, I'm happy to pull the glass off my game, take the plastics off, and send you some clean photos of how it looks, how it should fit in a stock game, and what the exact measurements are. Feel free to message me if you'd like.
Maybe there's something comparable out there, but in terms of part number, this is the only game that I can find (via an admittedly quick search) that uses that part. Finding someone parting out a beater is always a possibility!

You can get one from Cliffy at PassionforPinball.Com

I thought I heard an older designer saying with early games like Comet and early introduction of ramps on pins they designed some some of the ramps to make the ball hit the glass for the added sound effects. Idk if that's true but I enjoy it, on Comet the ball doesn't fly off my center ramp or cycle jump after glass hits so I like it the way it is.
