Coming along nicely Malenko - you will get there! Take your time and check everything and you will be pleased with the final result!

#252 6 years ago

ya looks good malenko. Might wanna check the fit of the roll over star at the top, mine had a lot of clear in it and I had to file the slots pretty good to get it to fit.

#253 6 years ago

Before you get too far................................just a thought

#254 6 years ago

Had no problems with the star, at least that I can tell so far. I am *STILL* plugging away at this.
This is the old PF to the left, with almost all the metal stuff installed on the new PF to the right
20171202_173819 (resized).jpg20171202_173819 (resized).jpg

This is where Im at now:
20171210_180850 (resized).jpg20171210_180850 (resized).jpg

Mostly the roll over lanes at the top, then I can start putting the top back together again. This is my first, and most likely my last PF swap ever ,lol

#255 6 years ago
Quoted from cocomonkeh:

New displays are on their way. Game seems to be behaving fine. Just needs a good cleaning. It throws out a board error (5) every so often, but a few resets fix it. Weird. Any thoughts anyone?

wanna sell any old working ones?

#256 6 years ago
Quoted from ccbiggsoo7:

I don't think any were salvageable. By the time I put the new ones in, one VERY shaky display remained. I kept the control board thoug.

#257 6 years ago

anyone know where to get one these with the quick quick? (the 5 ohm one)

scratch that, found one on amazon prime
https://www.amazon.com/uxcell-Axial-Wirewound-Cement-Resistors/dp/B013GAA294/ref=sr_1_3

78 cents on a slow boat but I dont wanna wait.

Lol I know the feeling. But this machine will probably mean the most to you

I order from Mouser all the time. Good place for parts in bulk.

PF swap is looking good!

so heres some PF pix (taken for another member but I figured why not share with everyone)
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1l5Zt-t2gSuntjVJco3fcrRz33Y0vQgKH?usp=sharing

I also bought the cushioned target decals from eBay, a little over priced but meh. My old targets were brittle and super faded.

and I also picked up new flipper bats:
20171221_193140 (resized).jpg20171221_193140 (resized).jpg

I'll be packing up my old PF to send it back to Drscottsmith on Wednesday. I do have an issue with some of the GI lights not lighting up, but Im just going recheck the wiring and possibly run new jumps with jacketed wires.

CircuitSpecialists.com just announced a budget shipping option, from 55 cents USPS, great for very small orders. Have used Mouser and Digikey with good results too.

finished the part moving part of my PF swap. I have issues with some roll over switches (1,8,6, the train, the go kart, the top value for the skeeball shot) and my flippers dont wanna work. But hey, it looks purdy!

Does anyone have a scan of these two areas where I am missing artwork?

Not scans but I have some clear shots of those areas in the link I posted before.

#266 6 years ago
Quoted from Malenko:

Thank you. I plan on using those to attempt to redraw the areas freehand if nobody has a direct 1 scan. Scans make the production of stencils and/or waterslide decals MUCH more efficient, not to mention perfectly accurate.

I know someone out there must have a scan sitting in a folder on their hard drive. There are simply too many Comets out there for this to not be the case!

Pretty please. With sugar on top?

#267 6 years ago

I dont have a way to scan the PF, I just got it back together so Im not gonna take it back apart. If you want I can try to take closer better pix.

Someone has a scan because that PF is a vinyl repro on an original PF, under automotive clear.

I rebuilding a Comet for a friend. Could someone explain to me how to secure the red tube in the center of the corkscrew ramp please? I see holes in the tube but I need someone to explain it to me. Thank you!

#269 6 years ago

AFAIK it just sits there held in by the corkscrew ramp.

#270 6 years ago
Quoted from Malenko:

So it just slides into place? Wouldn't fall out when you are transporting the pin and the game is folded up? What are the holes in the base for then?

#271 6 years ago

Red tube just sits sits in the corkscrew ramp. No securing. I think it also too tall to fall out when transporting with the glass in place.

I've got two Comets and have been hunting scans for a long time. Agree it's very weird nobody has scans.

I'm probably going to buy one of the hardtop overlays for game #1, scan that, and use it to restore game #2.

#274 6 years ago

We love our comet. My playfield needs a new one but I'm not going to do a overlay and just continue to play it and enjoy it

#275 6 years ago
Quoted from Fifty:

Nope, it stays put, no problems.

Quoted from Fifty:

Vent holes in case the bulb get stuck in the ON position.

I know of at least one person with good scans but they are unwilling to share. If you get any overlay, would you mind sharing a scan of the areas I need?

Those are speed holes.

Absolutely. Standing offer for anyone that needs it.

My budget is shot right now but I'll probably buy one before spring.

Thanks - you're awesome. Might be too late for me, but it could help someone else down the road. I have started my Comet restoration. Here's the thread link for anyone who is curious to follow along!

I just picked up a Comet Saturday and spent last night working out all the technical issues, there are many of them but overall the machine is in good shape, once my new drivers and coils show up I will have the game playing 100%. New ramps would be nice... I am bummed that my corkscrew ramp is the black one, it is in great shape but I will be searching for that orange one.
Here is the Machine as it was in its old home... Lots of re-wiring to do... The playfield is actually in pretty good shape....

One question:
What is missing in the annotated the image of the Flasher control board? 2 wires with terminations on them but just hanging loose... I am guessing it has something to do with the wire nuts next to it... It took me a long time to get the Flasher circuit to work!!!

You are missing the flasher relay for the backboard GI

Looks like they just bypassed it... I assume I am not noticing any real effects since the GI is just solid when it should flash....

Yes, maybe it wasn't working or they simply didn't like the flashing.

#286 6 years ago

Cleaned up pretty nice, way better than I expected.. I played around with colors, used green posts for trees, yellows and oranges where appropriate.... plays real nice....

I still need to re- align the door in the back glass and the flippers can deal with a rebuild but not critical...

And...

Can someone send me a few good pics of the million box on the back of the cycle jump.... mine is incomplete.....

#288 6 years ago
Quoted from Jason43:

Check the freeplay40 repro ramp thread. I believe he's doing the corkscrew.

Yes I am finally back on my feet....Hope to have the Corkscrew mold done in just the next few days. It will need to cure for at least a week and then I will start producing them. I anticipate doing it in transparent orange and clear if some want to paint them orange to match closer to the original. I could also do in transparent red.

Very nice work!

#290 6 years ago

Purchased a comet because I got it for a great price and the playfield is in excellent condition however I’m not a big fan of this game thinking of taking it to the local eagles club and renting it. One issue I am having is the 1 million award is not working. When you light it up and land the ball it does not score 1,000,000 not sure what’s going on with that

image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

#291 6 years ago

To be sure I took the Glass off and manually triggered the 1986 lights and manually trigger the million rollover it does not work however the million rollover switch works and scores when it’s not on the million light

Quoted from Heaterguy:

Put in test mode and use a ball to make sure all the rollover switches under the cycle jump ramp function when the ball rolls over them. If the ball misses a switch or a switch is not working well, that will cause a missed millions even if the topmost hole rollover is working.

If anyone near Ohio is interested in joining this club I am about to sell mine. I'm just really busy this week and haven't put a marketplace ad in yet. PM me.

Mine had the same problem, the three rollover switches needed adjusting and aligning. worked fine by hand but not when the ball would roll over.... all good to go now... good luck....

Marco seems to have them in stock if you don't mind spending $20 to also get bunnys and ducks.

I had pretty good luck printing out the dummy, rabbit and duck targets on adhesive paper and covering with clear tape prior to cutting them.

Hi,

Any chance somebody would know how long this lane guide is supposed to be? My playfield was re-drilled there, and the hardtop I bought doesn't help much, seems to be a few extra holes. Thanks!!!

Earlier I posted about my Comet power CB with a loose Molex connection that had been previously "Repaired" by someone that "threaded" wire to the board through the molex.
It didnt last.
Wires were broke and machine was cutting out.
I have since repaired it with new pins and a new molex connector (purchased at Frys-found perfect mate!)
See attached pics of step by step repair.
Machine works great now except the dunk the dummy drop target doesnt like to drop when hit hard and straight on which is disappointing.

OK I WENT BACK AND RE UPLOADED PICS CAUSE THEY WERE IN WRONG SEQUENCE....NOW THEY ARE STILL IN WRONG SEQUENCE...START AT BOTTOM AND GO UP...

2.25"

The extra holes are so the difficulty of the outlane can be adjusted.

If ball times got too long after a few months, we would move the guide to the harder hole.
