Well, shit. I read the description of that listing and he mentioned that the gate for the skeeball out hole is missing. After restoring and owning a Comet for several years, I never knew such a thing existed. Anyone have a close up of this piece installed?

#852 57 days ago

Makes a big difference in the game. Mine was missing so I made one. Couldn'd find one to buy at the time. Homemade works perfect anyway. I'd shoot a pic, but the machine is at my mom's. If no one posts a pic I'll do it tomorrow.

#853 57 days ago

Yeah, I imagine it does. I hate having it bounce in the outhole when going for the million shot.

I assume it's just a wire gate?

Yup, just a wire gate. I only needed to make the wire part, the rest was still there.

#855 57 days ago

I'm guessing I'm missing more than just the wire?

Yup, can see it in some of the shopout pics here....

Jason, I think I have a spare, I'll take a look

#858 57 days ago

Actually.... after looking at the shopout pics, I think I may that bracket. The machine came with several extra parts and I think I just assumed that was a spare/ mismatched part. Thanks all!

So the gate IS there on mine, but the little arm piece that makes it a 1 way gate broke, so its a 2 way gate lol

Quoted from Jason43:

Looks like a hardtop

Not quite. PF was sanded down, a vinyl overlay applied, then clear coated. It was done before hard tops were a thing.

Top notch job then. The clear looks like glass.

#861 57 days ago

Are there last ng term issues with clear over vinyl? I guess I just haven't heard if that being done before.

#862 56 days ago

One paperclip later and I have a gate.

I started with a nice unit to begin with, then took it out into the sun for about 20 minutes, then started at the bottom with a blow dryer and grabbed the mylar with needle nose players and peeled slowly. It is the glue leftover that takes forever to get off. Goo Gone, flour, magic eraser, alcohol, the works.

Just picked a comet but the board that is below the back glass that the speakers are in was missing. Could someone kindly post photos of the back of the board it possible I’m going to have to fabricate one so I can install the back glass in it.

Thanks in advanced

I have a Comet that had been converted to LED's, but in order to use LED flashers, apparently the Ground was cut. I currently have it pulled apart so I can install a Hardtop and I was wondering what I can do about the lack of grounding this thing has (the ground was cut off the plug.) I'm not thrilled with the way it is, though it has a new power board and the main board looks in great shape. I've been looking through the site and I'm not finding much on System 9 LED conversions, though there are kits and stuff I haven't found any mention of doing it this way, for example, i've seen where people say to leave the incandescents in.

Should I re-build the plug and put incandescents back in, not worry about it at all or maybe cut the ground to the few flashers and then re-build the plug? Any advice or links would be much appreciated.

#874 40 days ago

As in, they made a 3 prong plug 2 prong?

Yes definitely fix that. The only leds I've found that don't work in my comet are the flasher bulbs. I'd personally leave the GI and inserts leds and put the original flashers back in. I don't like the idea of cutting grounds anywhere in the game.

#875 40 days ago

That is what was done to the plug. I'm not sure if I have the original flashers, but I might and could just order some new ones.

matthew2000tx I can get those pictures to you soon(certainly by this weekend, have to get the door mechanism off to remove it) as I'm about to break that part of my head down.

#878 36 days ago

Anyone have a good schematic or a photo of the coin door buttons I’m not seeing a good wiring diagram in the manual. My newly acquired comet is a mess in this area.

Thanks! I actually found one in italy forsale and it's on it's way to Texas now... hopefully it gets through customs ok.

I do have another request. I've been looking at the schematic as to coin door diagnostic buttons/switches but would like to see a photo of the exact pinning locations of each of the diagnostic coin door buttons. Do you think post a few photos of that for me. Thanks

99.9% sure the ? is empty. Also pretty sure the diode goes from where you have D to where you have the WB. Machine is at my mom's, I'll check to be sure later today.

Ok thanks min diode is connected in mine like it is in the handwritten diagram. My coin door is a mess of a hack job. ThanKs

Regarding the switches in the coindoor, they are just switches and have multiple point to solder the required wires to. Some of the points are N/O and some are N/C and you will need the N/O ones. So there are options on which point to choose. I had a switch not working and using different point on the same switch I had it working again. Just use a multimeter to see which is which.
Hope I made it clear, hard to explain, just see the switch as several switches in one package.
Regarding the wires to use, just look at the service manual, it's very clear there (switch matrix)
The diode is needed in order to prevent wrong switch activation, and this is a whole subject by itself. Without the diode the switch will work fine but you can get activation of another switch in the row/column if two switches are activated at the same time. The man and auto switch are not in the matrix so don't need one, the high score reset is, so therefore only this switch needs one.

For those of you who have purchased my 3D Comet roller coaster mod, can you please post some pics of where you installed it? People ask me on occasion, but I don't have anything to show them.

Quoted from jaytrem:

Now I remember what's crazy with mine. Quoting myself...
"I have something similar going on. The commas show up with the score on the opposite side. Like player 1's comma shows up on player 3's I think. The Pinscore displays were installed prior to me purchasing the machine using old ribbon cables. Have been meaning to get new ones to see if it would fix. I did move them around with no luck. Doesn't bother me much, so just one of those things that I'll get to eventually."

Hi, I just installed my PinScore and found this ... bug? I traced out the schematics which seem to be:

comma 1+2: CPU board C54 to connector 1J3-10 to 10749 connector 4J10-10
comma 3+4: CPU board C55 to connector 1J3-11 to 10749 connector 4J10-11

I metered both lines out and they go to the correct places. I guess I could try switching them. Has anyone tried or been successful in fixing this?
