i use color specific ultra bright LEDs from cointaker in my EM pins but only for the inserts. despite the name, they're not too bright at all and are a huge improvement. especially the flex neck ones for the bulbs that are parallel with the insert which don't receive much of the bulb's light. you can also go with warm white LEDs for the inserts. i'd get a couple LEDs in whatever color and a warm white one and a few colored incandescents and compare.
