Whoa!!! It's Game 47!

ColorDMD Displays is excited to announce support for Cactus Canyon pinball machines! This is the 47th multicolor release for the ColorDMD display platform, and 16th new title release in 2016! Dave Ballance and Mike Hartmann, the cowboys who brought color to South Park return with their own brand of justice for B/W's last great DMD title, Cactus Canyon!

Art imitates life as Dave, who works as a Sargeant in a Canadian Police Department, emblazons the hero's colorful rise from Stranger to town Marshall. Dave has been collecting and restoring pinball machines since 2006, and has been the driving force for completing CC, a game that provided a surprising number of technical challenges.

His "partner in crime", Mike Hartmann is a software developer and owner of a Canadian software company. Mike currently owns 26 pinball machines and 3 video arcades and is hoping to add more! Mike is both creative and technically very sharp. In addition to his work on SP and CC, Mike helped to accelerate ColorDMD's incorporation and manipulation of live action images, now featured in many ColorDMD titles.

The ColorDMD for Cactus Canyon pinball machines leverages the company's easy-to-install SIGMA LCD platform and supports six different rendering styles. Multicolor operation is enabled through free download and installation of a game-specific ROM using a USB drive. The display may be reconfigured for use with any supported title.

cactus canyon looks great

however, it raises the question, what happened to the supposed limitation (imposed by PPS?) that you couldn't change the original assets for b/w titles? (could not "colorize" anything that wasn't colored in the original rom? e.g. the red lenses in the 3D glasses for the guy & girl in CftBL

given that all of the b/w titles were simply 3 levels of brightness and black, there is a whole lot more detail going on in those images supplied above. not that I'm complaining, but it does beg the question of whether ColorDMD is going to go back and give past titles the same treatment?

Looks like some of the best pixel work yet.

Wonder if we're gonna hear about a Cactus Canyon Remake anytime soon too?

Still just three shades. Not sure what you're seeing. Different shades of brown give you different shades of the 3 shades. Just as with any title ColorDMD has done.

CACTUS CANYON VIDEO PREVIEW!

Cactus Canyon was colorized by Dave Ballance and Mike Hartmann, the same team that brought you South Park in color!

Thanks to Chris for putting the preview together. Video was recorded in 8BIT rendering mode. Six different rendering modes are available with the ColorDMD LCD platform, including dots and high resolution upscaling.
