Very exciting news. Finally 1970's-1980's technology Dots are dying away and cartoon like animation is taking over.
Also, it is awesome that you are providing the upgrades FREE!

Quoted from Aurich:The effect looks even better in motion.
Super stoked for Metallica now, it's going to look amazing.
Butt but but, I thought you said you preferred Dots over smoothing?
Quoted from iceman44:^^^^^^^^^^
You have to load the software onto the ColorDMD regardless of the title.
It is similar to updating a Stern game that uses the SAM system but a slightly easier process to update.
Quoted from Dmod:The LOTR 3.0 update is now available for download from our site!

That did not take very long.
I just got through updating mine and playing with the different modes. So far Scan is my choice for LOTR. I will try the various options some more in the next few days. 8bit is interesting and I could see that working for some games.
The best style will always be game dependent, and of course, in the eye of the beholder.
One other note for Scan mode, you can turn the contrast up and the backlight down to make it pop a little more.
Quoted from Dmod:No, the display modes are just different rendering options for the same underlying color data.
Since the engine has evolved over time, we do need to convert and test older titles to make sure they work properly with the new coloring engine.
Question, which mode/style do you prefer for LOTR? Also have you found optimum settings for the contrast and backlight?
Thanks
Quoted from shimoda:Thanks!
on another note...
"My name is herg, I'm a colorholic."
Not surprising, he is the OCD guy.
