Quoted from Taxman:

Everyone thinks they are going to DIY and save money until they try it and find out how much work it is.

And that's why ColorDMD costs what it does. It's not the hardware. Ask anyone who's coloring games right now how much work Randy does to support things. New development is what allowed Iron Man to happen for instance.

You're paying for all the work, not just a screen.

Sure, cheaper is nice. But I pay for mine just like everyone else and I'm happy to do it, because it's a killer product and I know how much effort it takes to make it happen.

Yeah I don't see it getting any cheaper. It's a premium product that's not necessary, made possible by a big amount of labor. If I had a game that used it, I wouldn't mind paying the price they ask.

I would love to color some lesser titles like Gottliebs or Sega/DEs

#105 8 years ago

I didn't mind paying for 5 so far. Have a need to purchase 3 more in the future.

#106 8 years ago

Killer product!!

Jurassic Park has sweet dots, color would be amazing

#109 8 years ago

If the number of hours each title takes to complete was taken into account, the price tag would seem inexpensive. I easily logged over 150 hours on DW, probably more than 200 really, 120-140 on TSPP and easily around 180-200 on my current project. Definitely the development is the biggest bit of work. Randy provides a ton of support as well.

Hmn....could that be Tommy??

Yup, it is a labor of love for sure Some games go faster than others. Each game provides new challenges to overcome. Even some games that would seem simple on the surface are actually much more difficult.......like the one I am working on now.....

If it's Tommy, then Shimoda should contact me... as I may know something about Tommy...

#113 8 years ago

Man, exciting times. Thanks to all the artists and to Randy.

#114 8 years ago

No, you just need the Tron artist to have more free time.

Look at this! We already got two guys working on TWD, and they don't even own the game!

Man, your guy's level of commitment is amazing .

#117 8 years ago

I have a friend with TWD, so maybe soon...

#118 8 years ago

If you don't mind me asking Pete , what was the total cost with postage in our $ .

Alot mate lol $652 but it's only money gotta spend it on something hey.

#131 8 years ago

I did a quick calculation on postage and the 2nd DMD only adds about $14USD.

3 x DMD is free shipping but that would incur GST on the purchase.

Australian dollar is worth as much as a day old cold chip (Fries).

Yeah I did all the sums to but 1 display is enough for now lol

#133 8 years ago

Ive bought 3.My last one was $530 to my door. As Gorgar 1 says,it's $652 today.I'm holding out for TZ,but could go ahead and order now, install and have black and white until the colour file is ready.
I sold one of my orange dot DMD for $200 and kept the other 2.Suddenly it's $452 today for a shipped colour Dmd to your door. Not too bad if you look at it that way.

Anyone else's flipper buttons starting to stick?
Every since HAAG'14... I've been noticing that my white flipper buttons on my STLE are sticking with the switch closed. I can't figure out what's causing it; I'm leary of replacing the flipper buttons themselves because I've heard new ones can do the same.

Wrong thread?

#137 8 years ago

I figured it was either the wrong thread or he was insane. So, I decided to not make eye contact an back away slowly in case of the later.

We start our new year's drinking early in Austin

Doh! yeah... meant the Star Trek Club thread.

#140 8 years ago

I love this product. Just purchased a couple more for HS2 & NGG.

Talked to someone in the know and it sounds like the first few titles are going to take more of my money.

#141 8 years ago

TFTC would be great. It would definitely force me to forfeit another large sum to Color DMD.

#142 8 years ago

Demolition Man is the new title

#143 8 years ago

Need to add SMVE to the list of games that need a ColorDMD.

#144 8 years ago

where do I download it?

#145 8 years ago
Quoted from pinballnut3:

What title? Demolition Man?
Official announcement was today for target release on Friday, Jan 8th.

SMVE...ColorDMD to the rescue!!

#148 8 years ago

It is seriously sad to see Stern release a 'premium' price machine with a monochrome display, a relic from the early 80's.

#149 8 years ago

Just installed my first color DMD ACDC just awesome can't wait for Walking dead now

#150 8 years ago

Just took a look at the top 10 games ranked on Pinside and the only one that hasn't had the color treatment from Color DMD is Twilight Zone. Hopefully we see a a Color DMD release for it soon!
